Crate Unboxings

Recommended Posts

This is yet another idea inspired by FIFA. As this is simply a suggestion, the chances, prices, prizes and artwork is simply for demonstration and, if added to the game, will probably be different.

In the garage you could pay 1000 crystals and a series of crates scroll across (If you play FIFA you will know what I mean) and land on a random crate. Each crate contains different items, the more common crates would have between 5 and 10 supplies or some crystals (possibly between 500-1500 crystals). The rarer crates could contain a hundred supplies, with the rarest being 10k or 100k crystals, a chance to fully MU a random item in your garage or a free upgrade on a weapon/hull if it fits your rank etc

The order of crate rarity could be as follows:

  • Wood (Chance of getting: 60%)
  • Plastic (20%)
  • Cast Iron (10%)
  • Bronze (5%)
  • Silver (3%)
  • Gold (1.8%)
  • Diamond (0.2%)

This is just a simple idea but could be popular, what do you guys think? (Btw sorry if it has already been suggested)

Well you should be as awesome this idea it sounds something similar has already been suggested and rejected. This idea was rejected because they are not going to add roulette or spins to the game because it is a sort of gambling and kids play this game (take my 6 year old brother blueboy890 for example). But don't worry they have the daily missions to fill up this hole.

if this is like roulette i dont think its suitable for a game like this

Lets say this is like a spin the wheel sort of game, or Wheel of Fortune

I like the idea, some thing fresh, new and wont harm gameplay that much. However, I do think that the last few prizes you mentioned are practically impossible.

By the way, nice to see someone old like you back here posting:)

I hate it.  I would much rather buy products I want directly.  Besides unlike an actual roulette wheel, which are strictly regulated and carefully balanced, there is absolutely nothing keeping the chances fair or even to disclose actual odds.  The reason that so many pay to win games have a feature like this is because they can for example show a wheel with five equal sections, one of them winning, four giving a mediocre prize, and one giving no prize.  The prize may be a 1:200 chance but psychologically some number of players are going to feel it is closer to a 1:5 chance and 3 of the losers will be comforted by receiving a pittance.

Taken a step further some terrible but profitable games, for example dawn of the dragons, use this type of gambling mechanism for every sale.  Knowing that most of their income comes from a small number of high paying users and that most of these people are willing to pay as much as it takes to get the equipment they want they realize it is more profitable to sell a small chance of obtaining that equipment than the equipment itself.  On average most players will pay more than they they would have been willing to in an outright purchase.  In economics this is known as the sunk costs trap, where the player perceives that they do not want to have wasted all the money they've spent trying to obtain the item.

This is an idea from the darkest depths of the pay to win business model and I hope it is never implemented.

OK I think this guy has made our point solid plus I read it somewhere that a gambling idea was rejected.

How is this related to FIFA :v

It was a reference to the FIFA UT series by EA, but obviously I cannot talk about it or describe it too much because this is the Tanki forum and isn't generally allowed

I am surprised with the number of people who actually like this.  Have you ever heard the phrase the house always wins?  You are asking for something to your distinct disadvantage that will act only as a gold sink.

So if I understand this correctly, you are complaining that money will be lost from the community when you spend it on crates? I have never seen crystals being transferred from one player to another
