Finally got my lazy self to finish Madoka Magica along with the Wraith and Rebellion arcs.

Original anime was a masterpiece, I won't deny that. It goes from 0 to what-did-I-just-witness really really quickly, and gets ridiculously dark the longer it goes on. I read the reviews and now agree with them, this took the whole Magical Girl franchise and completely blew it up to a new level.

Wraith added a whole lot more, but seeing as how the 9th and final chapter isn't out in English yet, there's still a few questions unanswered. That said, it's not a bad read, though the fight scenes can get a bit tedious. Spoiler alert, it focuses mainly on Homura, considering that she's the only one who remembers Madoka at all, but there are quite a few scenes that will get you to question her mental state, especially considering what she went through.

Rebellion was just...I don't know why they made Homura turn out like that. It wasn't a bad watch, don't get me wrong, but the ending is just so utterly messed up it makes you wonder what the animators were smoking. It would've been nice to have a good ending for once, but no, that doesn't happen, and Kyubey is no longer the one we hate the most. Lots of deep dark material in this arc. The series itself isn't for the faint of heart, but Rebellion is *definitely* not for the faint of heart.

I agree... He's watching the wrong kind of anime

Anyways, I watched Code Geass Boukoku no akito... It was nice but more focused on Knightmare fight scenes than the original series. There's barely any plot and it feels like they're trying to sell it just by referencing to CG. 90% of Akito's dialogue is just, "Shine! Shine! SHIINEEE!" <_<

I personally enjoyed the Akito arc, though yeah I agree, it was a bit of a bummer. I'm sure most of us who watched it only viewed for Lelouch, since there's the whole "Code Geass" in the title. We got plenty of action, plenty of mechs, plenty of Geass, plenty of strategy. What we didn't get plenty of, is Lelouch's original self.

Of course, Akito's the main guy, we can't take lead character away from him, but having Lelouch do nothing but whine as he struggles with memory when he's the one who we're all looking for more of is a bit of an insult to the whole franchise.
