Railgun Getting Too Much Limelight?

 Share

Recommended Posts

With versions like "Railgun XT", and the overly-impressive seeming XP and BP modes, Railgun is always in favour of the developers. Being an old turret in TO, and difficult-to-master gameplay, I know that Railgun is great. But in comparison to other turrets, its being upheld a bit too much in my opinion.

Tanki should do something to uphold other turrets as well, maybe special versions and modes, or speciality weeks in which a certain turret would get a limited new feature or something.

What are your views on this? :)

Railgun is by far the most popular gun in Tanki, as well as the official gun of eSports (Smoky being secondary). It's simply beneficial for developers to release more items with railgun as they will sell better.

Although I do agree that all guns should be equally popular.

So, one isn't allowed to use any other gun except Railgun in eSports? Sorry if I seem like a noob, I don't know a bit about eSports and SLTV and stuff like that.

I do remember seeing an eSport battle where people used Hunters and Vikings with Firebird and Ricochet as well as Railgun. They were also drugging.

This is an example of Medium format. What people are used to seeing is the Light format, where you are restricted to Wasps, Hornets, a single Hunter, Railguns, and a single Smoky.

Dictators, Titans, and Mammoths are not allowed in any formats, along with Isida, Freeze, and Smoky (exception is one in Light).

Railgun has always been over-rated, and a lot of people get it because they can only afford one set of equipment and want to try xp or clan battles.  Probably harms gameplay as a whole but at least it isn't as disproportionate as it used to be.  At least several combos balance very well against it so you can always be assured a few easy kills.

I really got bored from facing this combo.

Railgun especially harms some guns which are a rival for him or an easy target.

Shaft, vulcan, twins...

To be honest, I think it isn't overrated, I just think they give it too much publicity when it doesn't need it. :)

Neither a Twins aren't an easy target up close, nor a crafty Vulcan or Shaft in a good position, for Railguns, at least at my rank. :P

I agree they should have different formats like Hornet+ Rico Wasp + Rico etc.

Yep, Hornet-Ricochet would make a good format.

I think of a few more (may/may not have been tried before).

  • Wasp-Smoky
  • Hornet-Firebird
  • Wasp-Thunder
  • Hunter/Hornet-Shaft (Yes, this can work. A mixture of arcade/sniping Shafts up against each other would require a lot of skill, positioning knowledge, and intense gameplay.)
  • Hunter/Hornet-Vulcan (I don't think it will work too much, but think of a Rio map battle of this format, full of Vulcans shooting their bullets from all kinds of altitudes and positions, trying to save each bullet, and time their streak perfectly. :D)

Railgun is good as it is, Changes to it would outrage every player who loves it which is about 70% of all the players

I never said that I'd like changes to Railgun gameplay... read the top post again.

Railgun is good for now, no further updates it requires.

All I have to say is Railgun rocks.

No doubt. But, other guns don't suck just because they don't have enough fandom to match the railgun.

Nobody is discussing about railgun updates..

I remember seeing an SL battle with an Isida... correct me if I'm wrong though. So medium formats include Firebirds and Ricochets with Hunter/Viking.. but Firebird on a medium hull .. really?

Whatever you read here before was wrong.

"Medium format

For 6х6 maps:

Turrets: Any turrets except for Isida, Smoky and Freeze. No more than one gun from each type per team, excluding Railgun and Ricochet (you can use as many as you want of those two)

Hulls: Wasp, Hornet, Hunter, Viking. No more than 3 medium tanks (Hunter, Viking) per team

Paints: Any paints except for unique award paints

For 4х4 maps (Sandbox):

Turrets: Any turrets except for Isida, Smoky and Freeze. No more than one gun from each type per team, excluding Railgun and

Ricochet (you can get as many as you want of those two)

Hulls: Wasp, Hornet, Hunter, Viking. No more than 2 medium tanks (Hunter, Viking) per team

Paints: Any paints except for unique award paints

Hard format

For 6x6 maps:

Turrets: Any turrets except for Isida, Smoky and Freeze. No more than 2 guns of the same type per team

Hulls: Viking and Hunter only

Paints: Any paints except for unique award paints

With drugs

For 4х4 maps (Sandbox):

Turrets: Any turrets except for Isida, Smoky and Freeze. No more than 1 gun of the same type per team

Hulls: Viking and Hunter only

Paints: Any paints except for unique award paints

There are no limitations on terms and conditions of a battle, as long as two clans agree on them in advance.

Clans must clearly agree before the game on what equipment they are going to use, what is allowed and what is not. If two clans don't discuss everything before the game, it's entirely their fault. In this case, a clan war is considered invalid."

Of course, that is off topic.

Railgun is used often as the "gun of skill." Whether you agree or not is not of consequence. The Rail will always take 2 shots to kill a Hornet wearing normal protection without the administration of double armor. This allows for a strategic game that requires memorization of the enemy's hits and heavy teamwork. This makes an XP game mentally taxing and gives the players a legitimate challenge.

While a legitimate format could be produced by developers, chances are very low that they would be played. Formats are created because of a popular already played format, not the other way a round. The only one I can think of that might get played would be Thunder/Hornet, as both at M3 are cheap and Thunder has a similarly low "shots to kill" ration that allows the same shot memorization of XP.

So, if you want a format implemented, you first have to create a format without the devs help.

i totally agree with "The_smoky_project" we players should find a type of format maybe vulcan/hornet.(i suggest this combo format battle because it takes your skill to the max to master this turret which also sharpens your other targeting skills when using other guns. Also railgun rules. B) )
