Stories of When You Caught the Gold Box

Anytanki who has ever caught a Gold Box knows what a unique and thrilling experience it is.  The odds of even seeing one are 1 in 7000; catching it is to beat odds of about 1 in 240,000, if I did my math right.

 

One tanker, against all odds, achieving a feat of skill and luck unlike anything else in modern gaming: now there’s some great storytelling material.

 

I have taken many a Soaring Square in my seven months of tanking, and I shall tell of two before turning you guys loose to regale us all with your own epics.

On May 7^th, 2015, I was at Highways CTF, on the winning team as usual.  That fact pleased me not a bit, as I was miserably miffed from the previous two days of fruitless goldhunting.  The May Celebrations were going on at the time, and part of the festivities was the alteration of the Golds to contain 5000 crystals on the 5^th, 6000 on the 6^th, and 7000 on that particular day.  I wanted so badly to nab one of those bulgy Gold Bils!

 

I had just finished capturing yet another flag when the siren blared.  My tail got so stiff from the excitement, I had to stand up.

 

I rolled up onto the left overpass to get a better vantage point, and behold, there on the pavement was the drop zone!  I looked around and saw notanki, so I sat next to the reticle and waited.

 

A moment later, a Hornet Thunder came lumbering up onto the overpass.  He was on my team, so he obviously couldn’t destroy me, but he still tried to push me off into the valley below.  We wrestled like monkeys in a banana barrel until a Wasp Isida, also from our team, zipped up to us and joined the fray.  The Thunder turned his attention to the newcomer and pushed him off, giving me the second I needed to get a good run at him.  Over the edge he went, just as the 7000 crystal Gold drifted into view.  I parked myself under it and relaxed.

 

Then the sniper got me.

 

Just kidding!  I collected my Rubik’s Riches and went on to get another 1079 crystals from the battlefund.

Later, on June 4^th (Tanki’s 6^th birthday, when the Golds were worth 6000 a pop), I was at Polygon CP, on a team full of doofi (plural of doofus) as usual.  I was getting very, very mad.  Those teammates of mine were more concerned with, well, anything but the point, and I was ready to leave them all to the outcome they deserved.

 

I had just respawned on the big wall after being attacked by a Twin.  As soon as my treads hit the ground, the siren went off.

 

I was at the base of the short ramp, next to the big brown pipe that marks the edge of the map.  The drop zone was on the dirt in front of the building that juts out of the big wall.  I turned around and drove back up the ramp, positioning myself for a jump to get the gold.

 

Every other tank on the field had the same idea.

 

A veritable tsunami of hysterical tanks came thundering up the ramp and plowed right into me, just as the Gold drifted down.  Most of the tanks fell to the left of the box, and I was pushed right into it.

 

The insults got pretty bad, but I was going to leave anyway.

There you have it, folks! My two favorite Golds from the past two months.  I know you all have a story or two (or ten bazillion, WMI) that you’re dying to tell, but let me lay down four rules first:

 

1.)    Do not tell us a “Gold Box Fail” story.

 

Anytanki can, and almost always does, miss the Gold Box.  Where’s the fun in that?  This topic is called “Stories of when you CAUGHT the Gold Box” for a reason.  Gold Fail stories are not permitted in this topic, on penalty of everytanki looking mean at you and tapping their hooves in indignation.

 

2.)    Do not post back-to-back stories.

 

Either put your stories in a single post or let sometanki else tell a story before you add another one.

 

3.)    Do not insult sometanki else’s story.

 

You wouldn’t want your story piled on and made fun of.  Show some common courtesy and refrain from ridiculing the stories posted here.

 

4.)    Do not post any pictures.

 

You must WRITE about how you got that Gold, not SHOW HOW IN AN IMAGE.  There's already a topic for that.

 

 

Now, let’s see some uplifting tales of the time you, an average Joe, did something that graces the dreams of all the other average tankmen, tankwomen, and tankponies across the universe...

I never get golds, i play so rarely i'm lucky if i get 2 golds a month :o but one night i played 3 hours straight, took 5 golds and did 5-7 batles where i were 1st the whole time and winning, haven't have such a good day for a long time(in tanki). Anyway battles doesn't seem so interesting now, idk when i was a warrant officer the game sounded much better, now i just join parkour battles and do lame parkour while chatting with friends .-.

Nice story. It's a bit similar to mine but a little different.

 

Anyways, I was playing in Noise CTF when I was on the blue team (the winning team) then when I was about to capture the flag the siren went off and it was on a ramp; some were searching for them like crazy (you can easily jump off of that ramp to go on top of the dusty tank). Most of us found it and when it was dropping, it felt like that I was in the middle of a hurricane of tanks (<_<) and the ones who were on top of me missed; then I caught it in time. After that I was destroyed as soon as I capture the flag (:lol:)

Here's One! I was playing Hill Ctf. My team was winning. I captured the flag and then the sirens went Off. Boom.....Boom.....Boom my heart was beating so fast. I was thinking how am i going to catch this every good spot was taken and it was getting closer to it to drop. then i pushed the Nitro drug and went vertical on the Hill and i Hoped for the best. As soon as i saw it i waited then zoomed off and shot once and then.....BAM! Samuel_swagg22 Has taken the Goldbox. I was so happy 1k for me. Btw Don't you guys/girls hate it when it dose not say "Goldbox will be dropped soon" and when you have Mammy or titan and cant switch in time! Hill is really hard to get the Goldbox!

I got a gold recently in a Sandbox CTF. The gold was near my flag. I was desperately pushing off the Viking and Hunter there, then suddenly, I decided to jump, and I did so. I jumped at the last moment in betwwen the two mediums, and I got it.

How I got my gold box?

 

Gold was dropping, and I got it!  :P

 

Ok, back to maturity... I have took many gold boxes, you can check my videos...

 

Once, on highway (back when I was below WO) I was playing with shaft, suddenly I saw a thunder come to the road which is next to the middle one and shoot me... I shot him and I killed him and I got confused why he was on that part of the road and why he didn't sneak up and kill me... Suddenly, where he died I saw a gold box dropping... I raced with my dictator m0/shaft m0 to that point but another dictator already touched the gold box...

 

Guess what! He lagged and I took it!  :P

I caught my first gold at Rio CTF just about two weeks after I started.  The siren made me nervous.  I was afraid that bombs were about to start falling or something, because the siren sounded like an air raid warning.  I drove down the street and came to a picture of a diamond on the pavement.  I was even more confused.

 

 

When the Gold finally came into view, no other tanks were around.  I hesitated, unsure of what it was, then rolled forward and touched the Gold Box.  The rest is history.

I caught my first Gold Box when I was a Master Corporal or Corporal I don't remember.... .... I friend of mine asked me have you taken a Gold Box .... I asked him what the heck is that....he said "It's Worth many many crystals and the one who catches it Gets Rich" I said " wow " Now note that it was in May or June 2014 or something and at that time Drop Zones weren't introduced.....

My favourite combo at that time was Firebird and Wasp m0 and I was playing a Regular Battle , a Highland CTF of 20 Mins ( At that time Random time for Battles were allowed ) and than the Siren Rang........ First I was confused what was it for then someone in the Chat wrote " The Gold Box is dropping and you noobs don't even know what is it and nor you guys can chat " Some one asked him ( who could chat and spoke English ) " What is it ? " and he did'nt reply

Note that too that in that times the Gold Box took 1 minute to drop or something....

And just as a looked at the Skybox I saw a Beautiful, Golden Colored Box with a Crystals Sign and "1000" written on it and I knew Exactly what it was....

It was the Gold Box and that tanker who knew what it was rushed to that point where it was gonna drop ... But unfortunate for him many other players of his team joined him and started to push him ( Well they just wanted to take that thing too I guess ) And there was were my Firebird Would Bar Be Que em all!!! I found a Double Power and took it and rushed to the spot where Gild was Dropping and Voila I Bar be Qued em all all of them could'nt even attack me before the were deatroyed .

I than pushed through all the Rsuted tanks but wait my Teamates were also rising to the Spot!

Just as than a Hunter tried to push me I touched the Gold Box and Took It....

 

Well that was how I caught it :D

Back when I was near Corporal, I was playing busily on Rio... Suddenly an alarm started to sound, and I got to know that gold is about to drop... 

 

I was on the blue base (I think) near the bridge which leads to the flag, and I saw that a gold is falling...

Luckily, no one was nearby. How did I take it? I stood on the sign like a noob and let the gold drop on my Tank, and Hooray!  :P

I just caught a Gold yesterday at Brest, where I catch most of mine.  I had just taken the flag and was on my way to capture it when the siren sounded, and all the tanks in the forts came pouring out like bees from a pair of hives.  I looked around for a moment and didn't see the reticle, but I did see three enemy tanks clustered in the valley in front of my fort.

 

I raised the camera angle and saw the box spawn and start to float down.  No one was nearby, so I drove up onto the bridge and waited.  When the box was about to land, I jumped off and fell on top of the enemies.  One Gold for me, and I still was able to capture the flag!

I caught a box recently at Madness that was on the very top platform.  It landed directly in front of the ramp, which made for a really cool-looking jump-catch.
