If Tanki Online became much more realistic, it would require much more PC power, which means that less normal people, who don't have gaming computers, would be able to play it.

 

Plus, have you looked at the Unity version previews? That looks like pretty promising graphics, and supposedly it's supposed to require less PC power, as it'll be more efficient than Flash. ;)

Want realistic?  There is a game called "Steel Beasts", and if you have a top-of-the-line machine (say $3000 US) you can play it.  If you go to the highest level of play there, you will also need two similarly equipped friends, one for gunner, one for driver.

Tanki 2.0 was cancelled because it lost simplicity
