Instead of discussing how/why/yes/no, it could be offensive, maybe this topic can be us suggesting different names? :)

Like, "Woodsman". B)

The world is a large place. I'm sure that some or the other person will always be offended by some odd term which most people don't think much of. Checking whether every term used is not offensive to anyone on the planet is, IMO, quite unnecessary. People get offended by anything nowadays. Zeus paint, the mosque in Iran, and whatnot. This is a video game. It's a form of art. Unfortunately, all forms of arts (including television, literature, paintings, etc) have been subject to this illogical criticism. Most people have yet to learn to appreciate art as art. (Most Hollywood movies depict my country as poor and full of slums, etc. Yet I am able to appreciate the movie without getting offended).

We can be sure that Tanki devs meant no offense to anyone when they selected that name. It was just selected as it matched the theme of the kit.

Rest assured, if developers identify it as an offensive term, it will surely be changed. Though, if that happens, it will be yet another case of art being degraded by biased and unappreciative eyes of the public.

Let's look at the term itself. It can be a derogatory term i.e. one used to insult, but it's hardly a profane word. Profanity is inherently offensive, whereas the offensive nature of other terms depends entirely on their context. There are a variety of contexts where the usage of the word does not seek to offend, and this is quite clearly one of them. I second both shade and beaku's posts.

The Saying Redneck if Offensive and Racist, "Redneck" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Redneck?s=t

If Tanki wanted to keep with that theme Tanki should have choosen  a name like "Hick" Which Means "Country Person"or Woodsmen or Outdoorsmen!

Of course Redneck is offensive in one of its meanings, but you can basically take any word and find some racist face it has... Why won't you say that the paint "Black" has a racist name and has to get a different name? C'mon guys, stop being offended for purpose...

Redneck

This article is about redneck as a pejorative. For the subculture, see Poor White. For other uses, see Redneck (disambiguation).

The term redneck is chiefly used for a rural poor white person of the Southern United States. It can be a derogatory slang term[1][2] similar in meaning to cracker (especially regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (especially regarding Appalachia and the Ozarks),[3] and white trash (but without the last term's suggestions of immorality).[4][5][6]

By 1975, say Chapman and Kipfer, the term had expanded in meaning beyond the poor Southerner to refer to "a bigoted and conventional person, a loutish ultra-conservative."[7] It is often used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is also used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal.[8] At the same time, some white Southerners have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.[9]

As a person born in the South and having lived here most of my life if someone called me a "Redneck" I would laugh it off. :D

I thought it was funny
