Identical solar system found!

Speed of light can cover our whole globe 7 times per second. So, 186 lightyears means to travel by the speed of light for 186 years. Which is basically infinity.

Umm... Not really infinity, 186 ly is 1759658280000000000 meters. Well okay, it's closer to infinity than to 0

One day there will be many space station reaching out like steps into space. Many studies are going on up there at the moment. Man is still in it's infancy of understanding, but their getting there.  B) The probes are helping and a good start in the right direction.

I have bad news for those of you who wonder if we'll be able to get there - this solar system is around 186 light-years away, which means even if you travel at the speed of light, you'll get there after 186 years you won't get there unless you warp spacetime.

PS the presence of a Jupiter-like planet in that solar system is good news. Jupiter is the vacuum cleaner of our solar system (it attracts comets and planetesimals which either become one of its moons or just collide with it). It keeps the surroundings of Earth clean and makes life here possible. If there is an Earth-like planet in that solar system's habitable zone, I think it may harbor primitive life.

Come on! I just said primitive life forms, just like viruses on Earth and not like the "aliens" you usually see in movies. :P

Eh, remember time dilation means you could feasibly reach the solar system without dying of age.

Eh, remember that time even stops if you travel at the speed of light. This is not possible, but even if you travel 99.999% the speed of light, by the time you reach another solar system everyone on earth will have already forgotten about you :p

We need to create dem wormholes

Ahem.... Unless you are all set to forget everyone on earth and are travelling on a self-sustainable ship, time dilation is not an option.

I'm pretty sure that an extra terrestrial civilization will contact us before we contact them because we are not advanced enough.

There are two key elements for the planet to be considered as habitable or not, is there any water, and is there any breathable air. Those are the most important questions popping-up in Scientists minds. So, chance of a habitable planet other then Earth, is slightly low. And as always, by slightly I mean no chance c:

Any scientist who thinks that is extremely narrow minded. Why does everyone think that life needs water and breathable air to survive. Look at bacteria. Most of them are anaerobic, that is, don't respirate using oxygen.

Let me tell you one more fact. Life on Earth has faced near extinction many times. The last one, was with the dinosaurs, of course.

Do you know what the first one was? It was the spread of a poisonuous gas in the atmosphere. A gas which nearly killed all life on earth. The gas was Oxygen. That's right. No need for that :O face. After oxygen entered atmosphere, animals and plants adapted themselves to use oxygen.

You see, life finds it's way. What scientists look for is not water and air. They look for elements which can substitute water and air. It all comes down to how you define life. As our definition of life grows and expands, we will find that life exists in unimaginable places.

Secondly, stop thinking that only Earth like planets can support life. As I explained above, life can exist anywhere. In fact, I would even go on to say that chance of not finding life is much much less than chance of finding it on any particular planet. The Universe is huge. Infinitely bigger than the biggest things our tiny brains can imagine. I'm sure all that space is not just for us. ;)

Which is 1759658280000000 Km, and earth's circumference is 40, 075 Km. Man, the comparison is just wicked.

I think we both misunderstood each other. You're talking about habitat suitable to humans and I'm talking about habitat that is suitable to any intelligent life.

It's not that can't adapt. We're built to adapt. If we survive in a different habitat for quite a while, we might even get adapted to different lighting, different gravity, different atmosphere, etc.

As for extinction, I was talking about extinction due to natural causes, not due to some dumb intelligent civilisation bent on destroying itself to bits. -_-

What? Our purpose was just to get to said foreign planet. Without dying.

And? What will you do there? Die anyway, right?

Sigh. Did you happen to notice that the person I replied to was saying that it would be impossible to make it there without dying. Nothing about survival on that planet.

What's the point of going there, then? I can keep you in hibernation mode for millenia, if needed. But what's the use of you won't survive once you reach your destination?

None. Did I ever say that there was a point? No. I just said that you could reach there without dying of old age. That's all.
