Improving the Player Voting System

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Many players don't have faith in the current player voting system (the /vote chat command) and they won't even bother to vote violators.

Part of the reason players don't trust it is that votes are invisible to other teammates and no one knows how many votes it would take to get a moderator to review the complaint.

So, having a visual voting interface could make it seem more reliable and effective.

Here are more details about the suggested graphical voting system:

1. Only the top 50% players on the scoreboard are eligible to vote. To calculate the number of players who are eligible to vote:

  • If the number of players is even; divide it by 2.
  • If the number of players is odd; subtract 1 and then divide it by 2.

So, if a team has 4 players only the top 2 players would be eligible to vote, if it has 7 players only the top 3 can vote, etc.

2. Only the bottom 50% players on the scoreboard can be voted against.

3. In order for a complaint against a certain player to be forwarded to a moderator, all the players who are eligible to vote must cast a vote against this player.

4. When viewing the scoreboard all players who are eligible to vote will see a clickable down-vote button next to the nicknames of all teammates that are eligible to be voted against.

5. When a player clicks the down-vote button a drop-down list will appear and the player has to select the reason for voting to help the moderator better assess the case when reviewing it, choices could be:

  • Sabotage (pushing/blocking teammates)
  • Helping enemy team
  • Very poor performance

6. Once the player chooses the reason for voting a confirmation message will appear on the screen that says: "Voting active, non-violating players may get you kicked out of the battle or banned from the game. Are you sure you want to vote this player? 1. Yes, continue. 2. No, cancel."

7. A vote will expire after 5 minutes.

8. A vote can be withdrawn by the player who cast it.

9. A player cannot be voted against within his first 5 minutes of play.

10. If a player who has votes against him rises to the top 50% on the scoreboard all votes against him will be dropped as he becomes ineligible to be voted against.

11. A count of the votes cast against a certain player will be visible to him and all his teammates next to his nickname on the scoreboard. This could serve as a deterrent; once the violator starts seeing votes building up against him he might knock it off or leave the battle.

12. Every time a player receives a vote a notification will appear at the top of his screen that says "You Have Been Voted By Your Teammates".

13. Once a player has reached the required number of votes against him to be reviewed by a moderator, a notification will appear at the top of the screen that says "A Moderator is Coming to Evaluate Complaints Against {nickname}". This should be visible to all teammates, and the violator might get scared and leave as soon as he sees the notification. If the violator leaves before a moderator reviews the complaint, then it gets dropped from the complaint queue.

14. A prioritizing system should be in place to order complaints not only based on the time they were submitted, but more importantly based on how big the battle fund is and how close the battle is to end. So, for example, a complaint from a 50-flag battle with 50,000 fund and a 45:46 score should not be waiting for 20 minutes while the moderator reviews complaints on 15-minute battles.

15. The moderator should punish/kick out saboteurs and those with exceptionally poor performance. However, a player should not be kicked out simply because he's not performing as good as his other teammates as long as he's trying. It would be helpful for the moderator to also consider the time the player has spent in the battle when reviewing the complaint. It would be unfair to kick out a player who has been in the battle for 3 hours over minor mistakes.

16. Punishments can range from warning, kicking out from the battle, up to bans for hours/day for the most flagrant violators. Strict punishments will teach violators a better lesson than just kicking them out of the battle, after which they can just find another battle to sabotage.

17. All players (including those in the bottom 50% on the scoreboard) would still be able to use the /vote chat command. However, these votes would be counted separately.

well hackers will find themselves in the top 50%

Hackers are better reported with video proof. Plus, you'd still be able to use the /vote chat command to vote anyone.
