[Issue 39] Grey Cat's Garage Analysis

Over the course of my career in Tanki, I was blessed to have been able to experience a variety of gameplay with many turrets and hulls. Some, I have become fond of, but others I found to be less enjoyable. At any rate, as requested by some, though perhaps not the desired author, here is my garage analysis.

I believe I started Tanki in the June of 2013, though amnesia has since claimed most of the details.

M1 Equipment

(I’d like to mention that I first played extensively with M0 Shaft, my first major investment, and a worthy one - I’d rate it 9/10)

My first M1 was Mammoth, purchased at 13% off on Halloween of 2013. The purchase was entirely funded by the serendipitous catch of a gold box worth 3000 crystals - my first gold box ever. I used it extensively with what was then my favorite turret, Shaft M0. The impressive pool of health was very useful for me, allowing me to absorb much punishment before exploding. The speed, on the other hand, was far from enjoyable - luckily I had a large stock of Nitros.

I recall winning 20.000 crystals from a Twitter contest, so I was quite well funded. Yet I still saw fit to participate in a three hour long Highland CTF that brought me into the depths of night, which I ended up winning, receiving a massive 1.600 crystals.

After coming back from the dead the next day…

Seeing large amounts of Firebirds about me, I jumped the bandwagon and purchased M1. A decent choice, but my hull was the unfortunate Hornet M0, able to stand up to little enemy fire. Mammoth-Firebird was out of the question.

Between Halloween and New Year there was a certain event - Tanki winning the Runet Prize - that led to 50% discounts on hulls and turrets, as well as the giving out of crystals; I received around 9.000. Then, I purchased Isida and Shaft M1. The former was a complete waste of crystals; I’ve used it actively in combat for a total of around two times.

(3/10)

Shaft, on the other hand, was the excellent weapon at the time, with a relatively fast reload, but slower charge rate. I found it to be far more functional in the large maps in which I played frequently.

(At some point here Smoky M1 magically appeared in my garage, most likely due to my brother. I've barely ever used it, so no rating will be given)

Prior to New Year, I received another 20.000 crystals for a contest which involved spotting shipping containers, as well as an unrecalled amount from the introduction of crystal gifts with rank-ups. At that sale, I purchased Hornet M1,

(8/10)

and Railgun M1

150px-Turret_railgun_m1.png

(9/10)

- back then, my dream combo. To pair with Railgun, I also bought Dictator M1. The large amount of health it had was useful, though the ease with which it could be knocked off balance was somewhat annoying.

(7/10)

Having some crystals to spare, I also bought Freeze M1 (interesting new tactics),

150px-Turret_freeze_m1.png

(7/10)

the Dirty paint, which was rather useless - Shafts remained just as potent,

(5/10)

and after further consideration, the Alien paint (diminutive but noticeable effects on enemy Isidas).

After the New Year’s sale, I ranked to Warrant Officer 4, and purchased Thunder M1 at full price. An excellent choice; with it, I was able to dominate the TDMs which I frequented.

150px-Turret_thunder_m1.png

(9/10)

Experiencing some frustrations with Dictator’s uneven handling, I also purchased Viking M1 at full price. I was not disappointed; it handled like a dream, far better than Dictator.

150px-Hull_vicing_m1.png

(9/10)

At some point around now I purchased Corrosion. Memory of that event has since left me.

(Some time later, well into the Lieutenant ranks, I purchased Twins M1 at 70% off. Even at those ranks, it was effective. I’d rate it a 8/10.)

M2 Equipment

After a hiatus of a few months, I returned to Tanki at around the same time as the birthday festivities. Ranking to Third Lieutenant, I had a choice of buying Freeze or Isida M2. I chose Freeze, and have regretted it every day since.

(4/10)

A combination of a lack of power as compared to the M1 modification (and other M2s) and slow reload proved to be very irritating; I soon fell back onto using Thunder M1 again.

At this point my memory blurs, and becomes distinct again at the next discount, some time in autumn (Tankers’ Day?). Then, I bought Thunder M2, as opposed the Railgun M2 which I had been planning. This was mainly due to the fact that I lived in TDMs, and Thunder without doubt was one of the more effective weapons there.

(9/10)

I also bought Hornet M2 for the sake of having a M2 hull, choosing it over Dictator M2. Looking back, I'd have taken the Dictator.

Some time later, Mammoth became on sale, so I bought it. A horrid choice; the thing is literally a slug on some serious steroids.

A 70% sale on Viking materialised, and I was conveniently a Lieutenant Colonel, so I purchased it, as well as Rustle on a 50%-off paint sale soon afterwards. Both were excellent choices, pairing very well with my Thunder M2. I particularly enjoyed the smooth handling of Viking.

At a 70% sale on Smoky, I acquired it as well after hearing many praises about it. Indeed, it proved to be as powerful as a M3 weapon; I was using it up to the rank of General.

150px-Turret_smoky_m2.png

(9/10)

Lo and behold, Tanki won the Runet Prize again, this time leading to a 50% sale on hulls. Then I purchased Wasp M2 as an alternative to my Hornet M2, after it was strongly recommended by @trombone_ftw. I’d say it’s better than Hornet M2, having superior speed and similar health.

Winning a few newspaper contests, I amassed a sizable pool of crystals prior to the New Year’s sales.

At the New Year’s sale, I bought Dictator M2, after being irritated by Viking’s abysmal gold box-catching ability. I wasn’t disappointed; my gold box catching rate immediately shot up, though at the cost of less consistent and smooth handling.

M3 Equipment

At the same New Year’s sale, I also bought my first M3, Thunder - partially influenced by the introduction of TDM based scoring for all team matches. Immediately I slapped heavy MUs on it - I haven’t been disappointed. Before the rebalances, it was able to deal heavy damage to everything in the radius of a shot. Afterwards, with the drastic decrease of splash damage, it still had its perks - for one, being able to two-shot a M3 Hornet with light protection.

Saving up further and winning some more newspaper contests, by the time Tanki’s 6th birthday came about, I was able to purchase my first M3 paint - Prodigi (eh, a bit cliche but still effective - don't rely on the Firebird protection, though).

Coloring_prodigi.png

(9/10)

After blowing around 15.000 crystals on MUs during that sale, I was extremely annoyed to discover that I was 19.000 crystals short of buying the Nomad kit (Hunter, Railgun, and Raccoon). Thus denied, I instead pursued my original plan, buying M3 Railgun

150px-Turret_railgun_m3.png

(8/10)

and my first M3 hull, Wasp. Though a bit prone to flipping, Wasp proved to be a wonderful hull - excellent speed coupled with moderate health - easily capable of dodging enemy fire.

150px-Hull_wasp_m3.png

(9/10)

From then on, I played mainly in XP/BP matches, and occasionally other battles to relieve the monotony of XP/BP format.

From then on I built up a rather unimpressive stockpile of crystals. My economy was (somewhat) aided by my confirmation as a Reporter; with the meagre boost in crystals, I was able to purchase the Guardian kit, containing Smoky, Titan M3 and the paint Nano. All three items were excellent; the Nano in particular provided valuable and versatile protection against the Hammers and Ricochets that prowled the battlefield (though the Firebird protection is quite lacking). Smoky provided a source of high damage annoyance, and paired very well with Wasp. Titan proved to be excellent in Polygon CPs with Thunder, and was far from the sloth that Mammoth proved to be.

(10/10)                         (10/10)                          (9/10)

An Uncertain Future

At the moment, I have no plans  to purchase any further equipment individually, as I already have a light hull at M3, my Dictator M2 MU’d to over 280 health, and a heavy M3 hull. I’ve noticed that Firebird is rather powerful; thus, I intend to purchase the Prometheus kit when it comes around again, as my rank prevents purchase of the Zeus paint. That is, unless a Dictator M3 kit makes an appearance.

I’m always open to suggestions; if you have any, please post them below. At any rate, this concludes my garage analysis. Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed!

I bought medic kit. It is one of the best combos ever. I really suggest people to buy this kit and you will be stunned by its performance!!!!! Anyways, a great article bruh! I recommend (although being a lower rank ._.) that you buy either isida or firebird m3. :D

PS: Something I am confused about is that you have railgun m3 but never mentioned buying the m2...
