Hey tanker, its time to brush off the dust on your Alternativa Editor and get to work;  its the paper's very first installment of "Tanki Online MapMaker" contest! With the upcoming release of the Unity, there is still uncertainty about the maps of the game. Therefore, it is time to resurrect the lost art of map making and you have a chance to be a part of the movement. Your task is simple; create a map using the props provided. I'll give you the details so you can be on your way to make your card.

Rules:
1. The map you submit must demonstrate your personal work and should be unique unto you. Submitting others work is prohibited.
2. You mustn't take any
current game map, former game map, or contest entry map and recreate/change it for the contest. Brand new maps are what we're looking for.
3. Only the props in the "
library" folder of the TanksTestingTool you will receive can be used. External prop usage is not advised. If you did not find a certain prop that you felt you needed, please describe it or post a picture of what you wanted.
4. Gameplay area of the map
cannot be bigger than 55x55 spaces. You can extend the borders past what will be played on, but its not required.
5. File size
cannot be bigger than 2,401 kb.
6. You
can only submit 1 map.

Now that you've been briefed, I'll help you get started. Here are the download links to Alternativa Editor (AE) and TanksTestingTool (TTT), along with a guide to the AE. Once you've downloaded them both, look bellow for further instruction.
Alternativa Editor (guide)
TanksTestingTool (exclusively, comes with a map I made named after the Russian city Kursk)

Set up for work:

1. It is advised to have either WinRar or 7zip already installed so you can unpack and compress files as needed.
2. Prior to installing
AE, you will need to download Adobe AIR.
3. After you've downloaded AIR, you can run the .air folder in order to instal
AE.
4. Start
AE. Refer to the guide for how to use the editor to make your map.

Using TTT:

Run the Flash player. Click File and then Open... Click browse to find the Tanki Online MapMaker folder. Click the TanksTestingTool.swf to start the walk through.
To test your own map: Delete or rename the current map.xml in the folder. Copy your map and paste it in the folder. Rename it "map.xml" and try it in the flash player. Remember, your map must have a DM spawn point to be tested.

Uploading and posting:
1. Once you are content with your map, create a new folder named after title of your map and paste a copy of the map file
2. Right click the folder and
create an archive
3. Upload the compressed file to Dropbox or MediaFire
4. PM the map to the account @Karttoisseur with the title "TO Map Maker Contest." The PM should look as shown bellow*
Map Name: -
Number of players: - total (-vs-)
Download Link: -

Example
Map Name: Kursk
Number of players: 28 total (14 vs 14)
Download Link:

*Additional description can be added. Optional.

I think that about sums it up. Prizes? In the form of crystals. Amounts? Will be dependent upon the quality of submissions! Creators of great maps will be offered a position. There is a hobbyist group around, they may take notice to quality work.

You must have your map posted by 22:00 UTC-0 on the 16th of September. Results of the contest will be announced in the next issue.

Now get to Work!

Sir, the library isn't in the editor application.

The library is in the folder you downloaded. Only the functions automatically load when you start the Editor. You click "Library" and "load", then search for the location of the library folder and click to open it.

Are both the download links applicable for mac?

Links should be fine, the programs are questionable for Mac OS and may not work. AE is based as an Adobe AIR file and TTT runs as a .swf (might be able to run in Safari with Flash plugin). I don't have a Mac so I don't know the exact issues pertaining to it.

Nope, can't find it.

Nope, can't find it.

Search your computer for the Tanki Online Map Maker folder, right click and "open folder location". Then you'll see where its located. You could move it elsewhere if you like, or use that as reference for when you search from the editor.

Can I send files on your mail? I´m not registered on mfire or other file upload webs and I don´t want do it :)

"Attach Files" only appears for forum posts for some reason. Even so, that would have to be a small map as the limit for the forum upload is 500kb and your map would likely be more. Registering through either service doesn't take that long.

The purpose of sending it to an alternate account is to prevent any one else from getting good/bad ideas and to limit others input on the map. With it being an independent original, it is not necessary to post it for the public to get reviews.

If I allowed you to just Youtube it, I'd be basing the deserving entries on someone else's walk through. I have to be the one to see the map in its entirety. Bad files are my problem. Don't you dare sent me viruses. If you do, I'll probably forget you ever sent a map.

well thats the thing... wouldn't it be safer to do it by video...

anyways can we use the 3d prop library or only the one posted at the top?

reason i asked is i had an idea of what i was going to make a while ago but it crashed... although it was a huge stage XD

Ugh  Sorry, I just didn't think that if someone would actually participate in this contest, he'd download the map and try copy it :D
