[Issue 39] Tanki Online MapMaker

Using TTT:

Spoiler
Run the Flash player. Click File and then Open... Click browse to find the Tanki Online MapMaker folder. Click theTanksTestingTool.swf to start the walk through.

To test your own map: Delete or rename the current map.xml in the folder. Copy your map and paste it in the folder. Rename it "map.xml" and try it in the flash player. Remember, your map must have a DM spawn point to be tested.

Could someone please confirm with me if the "flash player" is adobe air? I do not know how to run that; it only runs other programs, doesn't it (eg. AlternativaEditor)? I am trying to figure out how to run TTT. I cannot figure this out.

Thanks.

Flash player and AIR are different. There is a link under the first spoiler to get AIR. It is installed so you can open and install AlternativaEditor because it came as a .air file. You just quoted the instructions on how to test a map so you're going to have to be more specific on what you don't understand.

Sorry about that. I know how to run AlternativaEditor, etc. but I do not know how to run TankTestingTool. The instructions I quoted mention flash player; could you please let me know which flash player? I cannot follow the instructions because I'm not sure which flash. Also, I am using a mac, so software may be different. Don't know if this is relevant. Thanks.

Run the flash player that came with TTT. This is found in the folder that you downloaded. It should say something like "win_standalone_debugger_date_EN.exe". Then, click "File" at the top, and select "Open". Select browse, then find "tankstestingtools.swf". Open that. Hope this helps.

There should be a flash player in the folder you received titled Win_Standalone_Debugger_date_EN, however I think its still likely that it will work on any other flash. You'll have to find out if it makes a difference using mac.

how do we increase the number of boxes in the setup

In regards to...what? What do you mean?

Would it be better if I made a map that's more abstract like "Hill" or "Noise", or a map modelled after actual places in real life like "Rio" or "Berlin"?

make a map however you like using the props given.. btw u can't make rio without the 3d prop library

In my opinion real places are better :)

Would I get marked down more for large (possibly excessive) use of one or two banned props or for minimal use of a large amount of banned props?

Also, what happens if I unintentionally make a map that is already going to be in the game?

This should be all the questions I have, and once I get answers to them I will start to work on my map, so I'd like for them to be answered as soon as possible  :(

Thanks for the responses. I see the program, but it is ".exe"...  Macs aren't compatible with that format, as .exe is for Windows. Are there any other formats, or am I just stuck without TTT? Thanks, again.

Basic controls for TTT: "insert" spawns a tank, and "f" follows it. Use the arrow keys to move with "z" and "x" for the turret. 7 and 9 on the 10 key keypad to the right of the main section of the keyboard changes the turret, 4 and 5 change the hull, and 1 and 3 change the paint. "G" changes the spawn group (DM, red team, blue team), and "t" goes to the next spawn point, while "shift" + "t" go to the previous spawn point. "[" and "]" change the shot type from smoky, to twins, to firebird, to isida. "N" switches to the next tank and "shift" + "n" changes to the previous tank. "Shift" + any of the spectator movemnt keys ("w", "a", "s", "d", "e", and "c') makes you move faster in that direction. Hope this helped!

Try searching: "flash player 15 standalone for mac". I'm sure you'll find something.... If all else fails, right click on "TanksTestingTools.swf", select open with, then find your browser (I'm guessing safari) and click okay. This will run TTT through the flash player in your browser.

Thanks... Downloaded the program, and it now works, but I now have another problem. The insert key used to place a tank isn't used on Mac. I have downloaded a program with a numeric keypad that doesn't include the key, so still searching. Maybe I should just leave this contest alone...

In a google search, I see that there are programs for mac that run Windows programs. I can't vouch for them in this circumstance so you'd be trying them at your own risk.

Maybe and external USB keyboard would work? MapMaking isn't always contingent on using TTT. Its simply a tool to test your final product and make sure you didn't miss anything. You could still submit a map if possible.
