Bait Accounts

I have an idea that will reduce the number of people asking to trade accounts. have mods in chat using bait accounts and when someone offers to trade accounts the mod gives the account info and when the account is opened by the person who asked to trade..the IP address is pinged and the IP address will be forever banned from tanki. just an idea to help clean up the game!

Not everyone uses a static IP address so this will not work. 

 

 

Difference between static and dynamic IPs

 
When a device is assigned a static IP address, it does not change. The device always has the same IP address.
 
Most devices use dynamic IP addresses, which are assigned by the network when they connect. These IP addresses are temporary, and can change over time.
 
 
Actually better account control at the time of sign up makes a lot more sense and can actually work. But my idea makes too much sense so they will never do it.

What about the newbies...who don't know Mich about the game..its EULA, etc.?

They are usually sincere, they just fall in a trap of hackers...

And permanently blocking them means loosing players...

i am sure there can be some fine tuning to the blocking of players who hack or trade accounts and i also feel that when a handful of players get banned the news will travel quite fast among the interweb and the cheating will slow down. Furthermore  all the hackers will never be stopped but it should stop the ones who may think about hacking or trading accounts when there is news about people being banned.. or maybe a wall of shame will have the names of people that have been banned for cheating..make it part of the weekly/monthly newsletter..

You can't catch them with more security during the login process.. as players give their passwords just because they are offered some crystals.

 

It could work to

1) enhance the chatfilter on words like "free crystals hack pw password ....." < much more

2) and log which users use those words very, very frequently.

3) if a user has an over-average usage of those words, his chat content is logged

4) the ones that have the longest logs per day are then quickly reviewed by some human employee

 

it could work with less technology:

1) if people who report phishing attacks get payed 1000 crystals per report - if their report leads to a ban.

2) if some volunteer analyses these reported screenshots and gets 250 crystals per anayles report.

very good idea!! get the human factor involved in reporting! i for one would be eager to collect coinage for keeping the newer players from being scammed!

1. Penalty for account exchange is not FOREVER bann as i saw at Chat sometimes. It is from 1 day to a month bann.

 

2. There is a problem with that "IP adresses". I bet that half of the players have dynamic IP adress. So this with IP can not work.

 

So in your idea I would change IP adress for email adress. Account registered at specific email adress who is banned FOREVER can not create new nickname at that email adress.

And there is one more problem....Opening new email adress + opening new Tanki account for that email adress is easy and short time needed.

Getting paid for reporting was suggested a year or so back. It was denied. They claim to have an issue with players turning into vigilantes and forgetting to focus on the game. 

 

Rewarding players for doing the right thing is wrong but encouraging and allowing them to sabotage, and bully others so they win is OK.  :huh:  :blink:

 


 

There are simple ways to combat a lot of the problems that are related to accounts.

  • Better security at account creation and login is the best option. Tanki does monitor a players IP. This is fact.
  • All they need to do is require a valid e-mail at the time you create an account. 
  • Limit the amount of accounts to 5 per valid e-mail. This way it is easy to track players. 
  • An IP address can be tracked to at least a city. If an account logs in from Toronto Ont. Canada and then later that day logs in from London England, that account should get flagged for further investigation because clearly it is being shared or transferred.
  • They could also prevent more then 1 of the 5 e-mail linked accounts to be logged in at the same time. This would eliminate at least some of the mults.
  • As for players using more than 1 e-mail to get other accounts, they could go further and use those monitored IP addresses. They could flag any accounts that share an IP and that are currently in the same battles and mods could check to see what those accounts are doing. Are they actually playing or is one being a mult or are they power levelling?

Agreed! I used to be an over the road trucker and when i was out of my home city and opened up my facebook account i had to go thru all of the securiyu measures..so what is keeping tanki from recognising (spelling) that one day an account is registered in ..oh lets say Boisie Idaho and 2 hours later it is opened up in Bogata Columbia? that seems mighty fishy to me..

Agreed! Facebook automaticaly blocks user account if log in is from different country then previous sessions.

 

In dynamic IP adress you can not hide only country and internet provider

I do not want to be negative that everything is impossible. I think it would be good that Tanki introduce something like Yahoo, Google, Facebook and others did:

* Player xy lives in Frakfurt, Germany, using Internet Explorer, Windows 10 and system remembers that.

 

* If someone try log in to players xy account from lets say...Beijing, China the system automatically blocks the account of player xy. Even if person from China have dynamic IP (like I said in dynamic IP you can not hide country code and provider code)

 

* Player xy gets an email notification of that and he reactivate his account with log in from Frankfurt, Germany

yes very good idea indeed!!!so how do we move forward with this? we can talk all we want but thats all it is..talk..how do we move this to the powers that be to look into this further?

You can go deeper but it is pointless. Idea in this Topic is technically impossible

i would not say impossible..maybe some people who are more knowledgeable in matters like this could have some insight on this topic..

yes very good idea indeed!!!so how do we move forward with this? we can talk all we want but thats all it is..talk..how do we move this to the powers that be to look into this further?
