Adding a "Football" game mode on Stadium

Umm, no, this idea called for something like a real ball, like a goldbox...

Goldboxes are close to being cubes than balls.

 

Kidding aside, I agree, this should be put back for Under Review.

the gold box has a terrible hitbox imagine a SPHERE XD

actually, the goldboxes have pretty good hitboxes. it is the overload of collision detection with all of the tanks and dictators and wasps extra hitboxes  that make it seem like you should have gotten the gold. Also, because of all of this detection, the server tends to lag for everyone even the people with constant ping of 0 and fps of 60 (Is a 0 ping even possible ?11?!?!?!) so yeah. if anything is off, it is the tanks themselves.

 

and for the sphere part, yeah it would be worse than a simple cube, but I think you would be surprised. I mean look what they did with the trees. pretty good considering those palm trees on rio have separate leaves that you can actually fall off if you hit them right but yeah on top of houses.. now that is where it gets tricky XD

 

Just have a large indestructible ball and shoot at it. Goals on each end.... Yeah, this would be a Twinsfest.

I don't know about their code, but I expect that "just objects" are treated like houses and trees -> they do not move if you bump into them or shoot them :)

Therefor I expect it is easier to implement it as a tank.. but in order to not get it destroyed unliited health is needed.

 

Agreed on gravity, therefore I wrote "Ultra-Low weight" and not "no weight". It needs to have weight, else you shoot it out of the map each time you touch it. But it still may not be too heavy as it should roll and travel a decent way if you push it. Tanki likes the word balance anyways :P

 

This is also the reason why I proposed the 20sided object.. I hope it has enough edges so that it does no roll infinitely, but slows down while it travels (as all those edges produce colisions with the ground)

The tress and everything are not objects, they are a part of the map. The trees take on a kind of platformer where the branches are just floating platforms (that is why you can go under them). An object would make it so it is its own thing. You would be able to move it freely about the map and it wouldnt die like a tank eventually would (because can you even have unlimited health? in all of the coding programs ihave used there is a specific number defined as MAX and going over that just gives out errors. I could be wrong though, I have no idea how tanki works  :) )

Except for Nives, who obviously took the easiest route to create something like this. No ball, no really scoring device and no new mode for us!  :blink:  -_-  :wacko:

No need. In fact, this would actually make it harder. people would be driving into the net and just end up cornering the ball... just let it go wherever!

Nives is the community manger (talks to community, collects feedback, ..), while ideas are read and evaluated by the game designer (the guy with the pony tail who appears from time to time in the vLogs).

as ping is defined as the roundtrip time between two separate entities connected by some kind of data interchange thing (network, internet, smoke signals..) you will never achieve a ping of 0 with todays technology. Quantum effect networks might give you the fastest data travel times, but still you have to receive and send the data back, which needs time.
So while 0 seems impossible to me, a 0,4 will be rounded down to 0 when you display it :P

"Infinite health" is not achieved by assiging the value "infinite" to the variable that stores the health, but to modify the damage taken to 0 for each shot (or to completely skip the part of the code that reduces the health variable). So if your tank has a health of 1hp, but 100% protection, it will never die :)  (you see, Tanki is unfortunately just about owning the right modules :p)

 

Still the ball has to be able to die and respawn.

What would happen elsewise, if the ball is shot out of the map  - should it fall down infinitely and never reappear? The ball has to be able to die.. but not by the rules triggered by shots and mine damage.

I've played this before. Tanks were medium only and the turret was similar to Thunder, but with a harder punch. No Goalies. No supplies (drugs). Opposite team could be killed but their HP was very high. Respawn time was shortened. The goal was about as wide as 3 medium tanks end to end. Scoring was 1 point for each goal. No reward for killing the other team, that was just to make the team short a player for a short while. Respawn zone was off field. You could leave the respawn area, but you couldn't enter it without being killed. 

 

The ball was round and reminded me of a Soccer ball with the pentagon spots. It was a little higher and wider than a tank, so you couldn't actually see where the ball was going until it was a short distance from you. It was very bouncy and would bounce over a tank. It didn't always bounce in a straight line, because if you hit it off center, that would put a spin on it. Very effective if you figured out where to hit the ball to give it the desired spin or deflection. 

 

At the beginning of the game, both teams were lined up in a straight horizontal line in front of their respective goals. The ball was set in the center of the field. If the ball was hit out of the playing area, ie: over the wall, the ball was reset in the center. Teams were limited to 5 players. No rules, just get the ball into the goal away you can. If you accidently hit the ball into your own goal, that was a point for the opposite team. First time I played, I got turned around on the field and made a goal for the opposite team because the goals weren't marked, Devs oversight. Later on they were marked with colored flags. 

 

This could work in Stadium if there was an invisible wall in front of the "bleachers" to keep the ball out and the "bleacher" area could be the respawn zone.

This topic suggests a whole new game mode or format that could be played by normal players on a regular basis. Tankiball is a one-time event, created by event organisers and realised using existing game mechanics. It's not perfect and far from an official game mode.

So, topic is self explanatory itself, every event is possible to make in parkour battles, but this is not so easy, because the wasp gets killed so fast. Make new Pro battle mode(like xp\bp...). Would be fun and popular, i think

Let me get this straight. You don't want an organized team. Just someplace to go to "kick" around a ball with no objectives. Kind of the way parkour was when it was first introduced into Tanki. Then people saw the impossible was possible and strived for greater heights. Now you have Parkour Clans that compete. You can still go into parkour and mess around, providing you don't mind someone coming in, loading up on supplies and killing everyone, which in turn lowers you K/D ratio. 

 

Oh, wait. You're not talking about parkour, you're talking about kicking around a ball, someone coming in and loading up on supplies, sitting in the stadium stands and doing some target practice while lowering other's K/D ratio. Somewhere amidst all this, players become more proficient at kicking the ball round, Clans are formed and compete. 

 

Am I on the right track?

It took almost 3 years for this idea to get implemented into the game mind you  :mellow:

Some great ideas from 2009 are still waiting their turn  :D

It's basically the same thing. I won't argue about it. Besides, developers never copy players' ideas exactly, since that could cause some legal issues.

Stadium (and lots of others) should be regular maps not just PRO options.

I honestly don't get Hazel's logic when it comes to map selection. Devs keep saying that some maps can't be added to standard battles because they're not balanced, but then at the same time we have maps like Highways and Massacre, where playing CTF, and Rugby modes is basically pointless, as basically all games end with 0-0 score due to the sheer difficulty of attacking on those maps. Is that their idea of "balanced"? It kinda infuriates me.

 

Most PRO maps should at least be added to DM, TDM and CP, since in those game modes the map balance is either very easy or completely irrelevant.

Massacre is unbalanced in all modes. I can't even play DM there xD
