Noob just comes from the word newbie, a newcomer which doesn't mean anything negative. Unfortunately we started using it in different contexts. On the one hand we gave it the pejorative connotation it has now, though it still isn't a real insult. On the other hand saying the word 'noob' is losing its effect because it's so commonly, excessively used nowadays.

I'm not saying it loses his denotation, it just loses its effect, the connotation becomes less harsh.

I don't see it as an insult.

I don't see it as an insult.

Do not confuse noobs with newbies, who are inexperienced players that tend to be more mature and strive to become better.

Being a noob is not just related to gaming in Tanki Online, but also in ways of communication and manners

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example unrelated (or half related) to gaming:

Player XY at high rank asks directly Chat Mod: "hey wanna trade acc, my password is ****" and he/she gets a ban. For me player XY deservers to be called a noob

or

Player ZX at rank Generalissimo is a team mate with player @falcosenna1.

Player ZX is having a 100% of health in a battle, and his team mate @falcosenna1  is having just 5% of health. They are both going in same direction, but player ZX intentionally takes Repair kit and saying in battle chat "hahaha". For me player ZX deservers to be called a noob

Come on, Noob isn't an insult - it's an adjective for someone who doesn't have basic skills and depends upon overpowered tools (such as Drugging and Isida, in Tanki). You can also say that "inexperienced" is an insult, and basically it means the same as Noob except for the fact that Noob is used also to emphasize the abomination (yeah, abomination :)) in being inexperienced. I think that massive drugging for no reason (for example, without carrying a flag or rushing for a Gold) is abomination, for example.

cmon, are all of you kidding!!  Everybody knows darn well that it is used as an insult hundreds of times a day.  If I have to i will start taking screenshots to prove it.  What a joke for any of you to say it's not an insult.   HaH!

True, no need for a screenshot. Here is one example using a word noob as insult (that is why posts are deleted by forum admin/mod, but quoted text is visible):

So, when you see a player using drugs constantly, your opinion is they have no basic skills and you call them a noob.  Would you say you are giving him a compliment?  Cmon man, clearly you are putting the player down.   The word newbie or noob is an adjective for one who is new to the game, one who has gone through the first few ranks of 32 existing ones.

Being 100% complete with honesty, you don't call anyone noob to put them down?    If your answer is no then what is the feel behind it when you say it?

I tell you what. I do not call everyone I'm mad at a noob. When I call some drugger a noob, it's because I feel angry about the fact that he wouldn't kill me or anyone else without drugs, and he knows it.

It's not because it isn't an insult, that it's a compliment.

I'd call them noobs too, though I'm not insulting them.

If someone needs to defend itself after a word, this means insult..

Also, no one will complain if devs forbid this word, but someone complains now...

It's not because it isn't an insult, that it's a compliment.

I said that because noob is not just a way of playing, but also the way of courtesy...I hope you understand what I mean.

Thats why i answered to @CaRiNCi explaining how noob can be an insult.

Noob is not an insult, it's merely a name for a new person. I think with most names it's more about how they say it than the actual word itself, tone and intent are the insulting factors. Especially with "noob" it can even be endearing within the correct context. Of all the things people do call each other, especially within the gaming community I wouldn't say it's really a name to feel insulted over...naturally of course if it does bother you and you know the person who calls you it you should tell them so, otherwise they might not realise that they were hurting your feelings. You can be called noob for: playing bad, being hated for any reason.

Lets not confuse noobs with newbies, who are inexperienced players that tend to be more mature and strive to become better. There is a big difference noob vs newbie

So, for some players word "noob" is an insult, and for some players it is not. Also, "noob" word can be like a joke or can be used for insults.

That is why i created this poll
