Why is this poll put in a place where no one can find it.  You need to put it out in the open so all can see it.

That is tehnicaly impossible. Topics are sorted by Recently Updated

This admits you are one of the abusers of the word.  Hah. It figures.  I'll be seeing you on the battlefield.  I now leave the conversation.

Ok, noob. (Not talking about rank  -_- )

Everyone in this game must've once been a noob (inexpirienced), and calling someone a noob isn't a pleasant thing to do. Make others feel better by giving them confidence.

I don't really see it as an insult, rather as a slight notice to someone that he's acting a bit on the wrong side.

Just a word is not, but when it is over used or combined with some other words it can be.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not confuse noobs with newbies, who are inexperienced players that tend to be more mature and strive to become better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that voting is the best indicator of players opinion, there is little difference between yes and no

Reality here is, no one knows about this poll.  Out of thousands and thousands of players playing this game there are only 70 votes

This poll,  is one of the most critical posts there has been.  This poll deserves to be, rather allow me to say, this poll NEEDS to be up front where every player knows it's here. If  that is not an option, then write  a brief excerpt on front page that can be clicked on, which will lead a player here.  Otherwise, this is all a waste of time.

The players name should be right next to the vote so the votes can be counted and seen by all.

noob is insult substitute if they stop us using noob we will just find another word to replace it with, as its accepted as not being an insult it gets over used and frequently its done so out of frustration.

If used at a close friend most often its used in a playful way

I find it peculiar that when No is up by a few votes no more votes come in.  The players name should be right next to the vote.

You admit it is an insult.  About time.  Yes, it is an insult.  Therefore it needs to be rid of.

I don't care if it is your friend. No one takes that word as fun and playful.

''Noob'' is just a word , like ''nerd'' , nothing bad. If you get offended by it then quit games,  because it get's used in so many games. Just get over it that it isn't a offensive word , and never will be.

this is a tough opinion.  though noob could be to suggest that someone else is better than someone else it could be used as an insult. it depends on how you use it.  but I hate when people call you noob because the guy is older than you.  i am entering adulthood and i am better than grown people on some games. i even come first in most. its a shame that they call us kids when they use language and act like some kids.

why is it that they insult us even when most are so stupid they get drunk every night. NOW SAY WE ARE STUPID! (sorry i got carried away there).

PREACH!!!!!! PREACH!!!!!!!

ok but seriously though, this word is used constantly, more than any other insult in tanki, therefor it should be blocked. Especially due to the fact how tankers use the word, its meaning being you are inexperienced, and should quit/leave. Hey Tanki, This Word Is Literally Telling People To Quit Your Game, You Should Probably Do Something!

The word "noob" obviously isn't considered an insult.

Let me explain why.

I've seen a lot of players call their friends "noob" and they never got a ban.

In battles, I've been called a "noob" fly hacker when I catch Golds on my alt  but again, they never got banned.

And I've seen some mods call some players "noob" (just as a  joke) or "nuba" (a word similar to noob) and they never get banned.

When you curse and stuff, yeah... that's breaking one of Tanki rules, and that's considered as insults/profanity.

But I've never seen anyone been banned for insults/profanity after when someone calls someone else a "noob".

So in my opinion, the word "noob" is NOT an insult :)

I make an example.

The word "*******" descends literally from the latin "niger", which means black, and this word wasn't considered an insult before the 1900's. The historical events gave a negative acceptation to that word.

On the other side, the word "negroid", which is used by scientists to denote populations with anthropologic similarities (as the words "europoid" and "mongoloid"), hasn't a negative acception cause it's used scientifically, without any denigratory meaning.

Every word has a literal meaning (which isn't offensive), but it's the way a word is used that makes it sweet, offensive, chic... and "noob" is mainly used to insult incompetent players or denigrate those who use a massive amount of drugs (usually without any sense, considering the exp points or crystals earned at the end of the battle).

The fact friends call each others "noob" in a friendly way, doesn't clear its negative acception (same as if I say "lucky son of a *****" to a friend).

So, for me, "noob" is an offensive word.

So, for me, "noob" is an offensive word for the way it's used.

Yeah, and isn 't it also true that the word you mention is often used in literally every sentence when certain

groups of Afro-Americans are amongst each other?

In that case the word is gets also used in a way that it becomes not offensive anymore, it looses that meaning

or even becomes friendly.

Same with the word noob. First it 's already not loaded at all with an awful history, which the word you mentioned

certainly dooes have. So it 's already a lot less provocative. Can 't compare the two words really.

The word noob lost it 's meaning mostly too. As I see it, it is used in games and certainly in Tanki Online

to adress a Tanker(s) who stands out from the crowd.

It can be that the Tanker who is called a noob plays really poorly on the other hand if a player plays really well

he/she will also be called a noob.

A total drugger can be called a noob: also a non-drugger who makes the team weak can also be called a noob.

A low-rank player who plays in a high-rank battle might hear "get out you noob", if that same low-rank player played

well he might hear: "good job noob".

(I don 't like the "get out noob" I truly hate that, but just give it as an example)

It can be used as a motivational tool also, if for example I 'm playing a Polygon CP and I 'm in a team with

Tankers who don 't want or just don 't understand that you need to get in the pit and capture to win,

than I will definitely write in teamchat "bunch of nubs, don 't you understand we have to capture, get in the pit"

or something like that to try to change the outcome of the battle.

If they hate me for that: good, I hope they get angry it often makes Tankers fight better....

well, hmmm or run into mines time and time again when attacking you.... :D

To conclude: the term noob is even when it 's used in the strongest negative way, not very offensive at all

and even a good replacement for much stronger terms that would most likely be used otherwise.

It 's often used for a player(s) who stands out in a negative but also positive way so it has become a quite versatile word.

Most importantly: it 's the receiver who decides how much he/she is affected by the word!

Most high-rank Tankers for example won 't blink an eye when being called a noob: when they play well even without

heavy drugging being called noob is actually a compliment...at least that 's how I view it.

From the biggest noob of all: just get over it you noobs! :P

edit: forgot to mention "noob" is also used out of frustration a lot, something like

what will people say when they hit their thumb with a hammer (often a blasphemous word)

Don 't say noob much in relation to TO 's Hammer, but I won 't deny I called quite

a few Mammoth/Titans with Vulcan and Zeus "noobs"...really quite a few...

People with inferiority complexes or who are just plain - will say such things from behind a screen that they would never have the guts to say to a person's face in real life.

Internet created much worser things than "noob-sayers"...

Thanks for calling me someone with an inferiority complex or even a plain a-hole!

You are just a perfect example of what happens when people don 't use the word noob,

but go to much stronger and insulting terms instead.

It didn 't hurt me though, no worries.

The receiver decides if he 's affected by it or not, remember? ;)

Still, thanks for proofing my point!
