Yeah, and isn 't it also true that the word you mention is often used in literally every sentence when certain

groups of Afro-Americans are amongst each other?

In that case the word is gets also used in a way that it becomes not offensive anymore, it looses that meaning

or even becomes friendly.

Same with the word noob. First it 's already not loaded at all with an awful history, which the word you mentioned

certainly dooes have. So it 's already a lot less provocative. Can 't compare the two words really.

The word noob lost it 's meaning mostly too. As I see it, it is used in games and certainly in Tanki Online

to adress a Tanker(s) who stands out from the crowd.

It can be that the Tanker who is called a noob plays really poorly on the other hand if a player plays really well

he/she will also be called a noob.

A total drugger can be called a noob: also a non-drugger who makes the team weak can also be called a noob.

A low-rank player who plays in a high-rank battle might hear "get out you noob", if that same low-rank player played

well he might hear: "good job noob".

(I don 't like the "get out noob" I truly hate that, but just give it as an example)

It can be used as a motivational tool also, if for example I 'm playing a Polygon CP and I 'm in a team with

Tankers who don 't want or just don 't understand that you need to get in the pit and capture to win,

than I will definitely write in teamchat "bunch of nubs, don 't you understand we have to capture, get in the pit"

or something like that to try to change the outcome of the battle.

If they hate me for that: good, I hope they get angry it often makes Tankers fight better....

well, hmmm or run into mines time and time again when attacking you.... :D

To conclude: the term noob is even when it 's used in the strongest negative way, not very offensive at all

and even a good replacement for much stronger terms that would most likely be used otherwise.

It 's often used for a player(s) who stands out in a negative but also positive way so it has become a quite versatile word.

Most importantly: it 's the receiver who decides how much he/she is affected by the word!

Most high-rank Tankers for example won 't blink an eye when being called a noob: when they play well even without

heavy drugging being called noob is actually a compliment...at least that 's how I view it.

From the biggest noob of all: just get over it you noobs! :P

A word like "noob" is not an insult itself, but it makes you feel like you are inferior in the game and when somebody calls you like that without an apparent reason, it becomes an annoying mockery (another skill to improve: patience).

It's important to distinguish when somebody calls you "noob" just to put you down or because you're actually inferior and you're a burden to the team. In that case, it's better to leave and "try another time".

There is a lot of truth in your reply and it is a fine line.

Personally I feel you could better adress a weak playing player and maybe friendly request to leave:

instead of using noob.

That is, if the guy is clearly trying and just not up to it now: it may be in equipment and/or skills.

Hopefully if he 's smart enough he will notice it himself and leave and indeed try another time.

It becomes different with obvious mults and also those guys who are only there to catch Gold.

If the first thing you do when entering a battle is asking "did Goldbox fall" than

you are on my short list of possible being an enormous noob.

Definitely not always the case: many Goldhunters fight with the team, but if that Tanker doesn 't

score points: than he deserves to be called noob.

It's one of the only words which you won't get banned for - so I guess some people use it as an insult.

E.g. Player 1 gets gold box. Player 2 was very close to getting it so rages and calls them a noob.

i have seen players call other team mates  noob due to them not playing well in there books... but really there battling way better then the one calling them it due to that player has little to no kills and or  is sitting off side making others work for them ..and he only moves when gold drops

I vote for Obama... oh, wait...

Why does it matter whether "Noob" is an insult or not? You wanna make it bannable or non-bannable act depending on what the poll says? That'd be absolutely ridiculous! Btw, it's each to their own; for some it's an insult, for others it isn't and who are we to make a universal judgement for that?

I do not care for who you vote. If you do not want to vote here, then do not vote

An opinion is not an universal judgement. Topic says "Noob - an insult or not?", not "Should the word "noob" be a bannable act?" and a sociable human being interested on the topic, would give his/her point of view.

Are you afraid you won't be allowed to "insult" people?

to me it really depends on who is calling me it.. for most parts  i turn away and just let them be and in time they get called for flooding for others i find it insulting regardless how they think ///  it is like a game,  well really name calling is a form of bulling and should not be tolerated in any game

sure we use noob but what will the next word  be and so on and so on..i have seen both sides of bulling and i don`t like either one ..

it might be in all in fun but you have no clue how the other person will take it.. they could have had a bad day in real life or will joke around and have fun with it ..you don`t know ..

.......so think twice before using it...

I hate when it's my first round of the day and I still need warm-up, so I'm missing, bumping into others, then they turn around and say "noob". It pisses me off so much like, you haven't even seen me play, boy, so just p*ss off. I would consider it an insult because it is more degrading than encouraging and anything that is so should be considered an insult. Unless of course, you are using it lightly with friends that you know will not take it seriously. But to ensure that you do not mean it, an addition of "lol" or "xD" would change the meaning a lot.

Noob can be used as an insult but it really isn't

Alot of people will use noob as an insult but it can also be used to describe a newbie

*seen generalissimo. Sees a recruit in chat *

Generalissimo : hi noob

Recruit : what did u call me?

Generalissimo : noob but its not a insult It means newbie

Recruit : oh ok hi veteran tanker.bye

See it can be used in a good way but most people use it as an insult cause eather they are jelious cause someone in a battle is better then them like me I'm the one who's better then most people in battles

I played in a polygon cp match yesterday and was using my mammoth and m4 smoky combo

i got to the cp and was holding out pretty well

i admit i was using a few supplys to keep my place their

i checked the score and i was leading scorer on our team by a fair way

about 10 mins into the game i noticed a few remarks about me in the chat coming from my own team

mates

i was being called a drugger noob which in normal circumstances i dont really take any notice of

but i did find these remarks slightly insulting coming from my own team

Maybe i should have left the game and let them loose :P

whats your thoughts?

Honestly I get used to being called a noob, beacause 3/4's of the time on this account im just messing around. But the next game that same person that called me a noob usually doesn't do it anymore when I stop messing around.
