This contest was just so biased... I don't wanna act disgustingly or suggest that I'm better than others, and I know that it's kinda weird that I will give a mark to my own entry, but I think that the entry that won the first place wasn't hilarious at all, and except for the half-funny paradox of "Half-Infinity" he mentioned, there wasn't anything even close to be satiric or not serious. The facts in his entry were of course fictional, but they weren't funny at all. It's not that that guy made an attempt to sound funny and didn't succeed - he just didn't write there ANY joke, only fictional things. I could think of at least 5 entries that should've gotten a consolation prize at the very least. :mellow: I don't know what's your game, but it's so obvious that the so-called winners were awarded not because of their entry's quality.

I can assure you that all entries including yours were considered appropriately and it took a significant judging decision to decide the winners. Sorry we didn't give yours a prize - it was a well-made entry and was certainly in the shortlist.

This was the first Newspaper Contest I've entered into. I was very surprised to see that Pho didn't win :-P.

It would have been spectacular to win first place... I hope this contest rolls around again someday.

 

It's somewhat painful for me to read my entry, as there are some subtle mistakes that I wish I had corrected before the contest was locked. I just hope these blunders didn't make a different between reaching 1st and 2nd place.

 

I've got no real argument with the judgement. Kudos to Gold for diligently searching the contest; HHuey's entry was not really noticed at all by the English Community, but it certainly was a quality entry and deserved to be in the top three. 

 

The Dictator isn't just about humor. The Dictator has its own unique style of satire; it usually makes fun of actual events that have happened in the game. It is silly, but still professional. There were quite a few hilarious entries that didn't win even consolation prizes, in some cases I'd bet because they weren't "in the spirit" of Tanki's Finest News Source, or just too silly. Obviously each player has their own sense of humor. But seeing that GoldBlocky actually started the Dictator, he should be the ultimate judge of "Dictator-worthy content".

 

Never-the-less, it is curious that he picked HHuey to win, as his entry doesn't seem to be based on any actual events, and largely contained only one joke. However, I don't want to speak out of line. We'll see how HHuey does over the future releases of The Dictator.

I wasn't asking to be the winner, and in fact I think that I invested too much time on the look (Photoshops and such) rather than the content, so I certainly could have done better. My point is my entry was not the best, but surely not worse than the one that's won the first place.

tbh there are alot of quality entries it just depends on who is judging and what they are looking for exactly, their sense of humour.. so on and so forth

Just to clarify - I did not judge alone, these results are based on feedback from quite a few Reporters and lengthy deliberation over a shortlist of about a dozen good entries. Quite a few only narrowly missed out, the competition was pretty fierce.

 

As for HHuey, both hog and me came up with our separate picks for the 'top 3' winners, and we both gave him first without having even told each other tthat's what we thought (i.e. we both chose him independently of each other). That, to me, was more than enough for his entry to deserve the top prize. I personally thought it was a top quality example of satire, an excellently controlled piece of writing made amusing by its wit and subtle humour - although I can see why it might not have been the 'popular choice', I was picking based on quality not based on what the majority might think.

 

Of course you guys are allowed to share your own thoughts and it's appreciated, but don't arrogantly claim your own entry must have been better or deserved to win instead. That's what's commonly known as being a 'sore loser'. The staff are very used to dealing with those who seem to think a contest was biased if they or their personal choices didn't end up winning (because apparently they must be right), so it would be a waste of your words to respond in that way.
