          This could be done yeah but honestly I don't know how much is this gonna help the game since Tanki has way too many other important problems to fix. If you really care enough for a player you can find out if is a lady or a gentleman from that person not from an icon and people can display any info in their profile if is allowed, since no way to verify it and besides, we all have the right to our own privacy. On the other hand, just reminded the premium icon was recently removed from being displayed in-game, don't really think we will see such option to have gender displayed, at least not this century. Then other problems would generate since gender minorities will want their own icons, etc.
