Hello there ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the second edition of Viewpoints of the Staff!  This article involves questioning some staff members with an off/on-topic question. If you've noticed, this is the opposite of Remaine's Ask the Community. If there's any questions you'd like me to ask in the next edition, feel free to comment below. With that being said, let's get this started!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The questions for this issue are:

Off-Topic: Which do you like better, Chicken or Salad?

On-Topic: Do you think it was a good thing for Tanki Online to remove Consultants?

Ah, I'd say I prefer salad. It has a nice fresh taste, and I enjoy all the different things that can be done with it. I can always have an interesting taste. I like adding different types of dressing, adding other bits of food in, or even throwing some in chicken on occasion. ;)

Honestly, I prefer chicken. I never eat salad, like never. I dislike it, no idea why. If I eat anything, I usually remove the salad or when I order I tell them to make it with no salad. Moreover, I would not like the whole Newspaper team to be pissed at me due to me not liking chicken.

Give me some delicious chicken please!

Every time I go to a restaurant and get some salad with my meal, I just leave the salad untouched in the upper right or upper left corner of my plate, depending on where it’s lying. For some reason it never lies at the bottom. I completely dislike tomatoes and don’t really like the taste of cucumber, lettuce or maize either. Carrots do manage to convince my taste buds, but I’ll only eat them if they’re not drowning in vinaigrette.

I’m just a real meat lover. I couldn’t live without it. There are some good restaurants nearby where you can eat spare ribs à volonté. It’s like heaven for me. I know spare ribs aren't chicken meat, but I prefer all types of meat (including chicken) over a salad!   :P

Salad is mostly made of vegetables and chickens eat vegetables, too. So by choosing chicken I choose both, right?
Chicken, please!

I believe Tanki Online's decision to remove the Consultants was indeed a good thing. Firstly, allow me to provide some background. When I first joined the Helpers, I was a Consultant, and it was a simply wonderful job, being run by simply wonderful Administrators. (FederalBureauFBI and Issho_Fujitora   )  The work involved being in the chats daily and providing players with information; whether that be some trivial fact about Tanki's history, or solving some technical issue. Some of us worked on the forum in addition to the chats, myself included, and this eventually led me to the Forum Moderator position, but that's a story for another day. Anyway, Consultants could issue warns, or five minute bans in the chat to prevent players from interrupting their work. So Chat Mods still did the heavy lifting with bans, as we only banned so that we could smoothly communicate with the players who really needed attention.

So while I'd vouch for the quality of the job any day, I still think its removal was appropriate. All of the staff branches have a distinct purpose, and they all belong in a certain place and do a certain thing. But the Consultants were sorta all over the place, which was nice, but unnecessary. In theory, all Staff branches should be packed with knowledge like the Consultants - at the least regarding their particular field. With the removal of the Consultants, efforts were made to tidy things up. For example, now Chat Moderators will try to help out when they have a moment in the game chats. Also, Facebook Moderators carry some of the characteristics of the Consultants, but in a much more formatted way. While they don't roam the game chats, or work in the forum, they do posses and distribute most of the information Consultants did. I will always appreciated the Consultants for being such an incredibly sharp group of individuals who could be found working almost anywhere, but I more greatly appreciate the logic behind their removal, given that they weren't quite essential and could easily enough be merged with other Staff groups. Some Consultants went on to be Chat Moderators, while others invested themselves in the Facebook Moderator position. Now each Helper branch can work in their own area with clear lines between one line of work and the other.

Nowadays we have the Help Site Consultants, whom are somewhat like the Consultants, at least in knowledge and standards, but instead of repeating information every time a question is asked, answers are documented, which I can't help but admit I really like.  :D While the absence of Consultants puts more pressure on Chat Moderators, I hope to eventually see a list of links to all Tanki Online resources put in the game, so that more players will be made aware of all the other places they can go to find information.

In my opinion, the removal was in the wrong direction. Consultants did a great job at helping people, answering questions and solving issues. They had no other job than that (except that they sometimes ban for 5 minutes), but now, their job is on the hands of another group - chat mods. But chat mods are already quite busy just moderating the chat, and honestly, that was hard enough. But now, they have to also along with banning answering questions, respond to issues, which is, in my opinion, just too much for them. I honestly see less people in the chat being answered as most of the time chat mods are just too busy moderating, and they have no time to answer questions. Moreover, answering questions and just posting one message will get them tons of questions and basically turn their screen light green (thanks to the new icons near their name http://imgtnk.com/i/4cf76b27.jpg), which will pretty much hinders most (if not all) their chat modding ability simply due to the huge number of messages they must respond too and the clustering of the chat. That being said, I was actually against the removal, but sadly, I was too late to actually try to do something, so I guess they're gone now, which is really sad.

In my opinion it was good to remove consultants. Why? Because a part of them is still working with us as Chat Mods. From what I know Consultants were created for helping players in they troubles etc but they didn't have powers like Chat Mods. Chat moderating is very similar to work as consultant. We are here also for help all players on chat like old Consultants but with powers. For me I think it was good change for everyone. Old consultants can't deal with violations on chat... Now a part of them who joined our team of chat mods can do that and I think this is better for they and also for players. We spend time on chat everyday and answering the question from players and also keeping chat clean and cozy to every single player who comes along. So consultants are still here as a chat mods group and every single part of community helpers. Chat,Forum,Facebook and all other mods can helpful for our players. We can say every single mod is an Consultant. Thats my point of view.

I don't really feel strong about it, though I completely understand the developers' choice to remove Consultants. Nevertheless it must be said that our consultants did a wonderful job. They were always contactable and ready to help players with all their questions, doubts and technical issues both in the game chat and on the forum.  Players knew they were the ones to contact whenever they faced some kind of difficulties. Though, chat moderators and forum moderators share the same knowledge as the consultants and are also up for players in need of advice, or help in general. This way, chat moderators and forum moderators, as well as facebook moderators on TO’s official facebook page, were partly doing the job ‘reserved’ for the consultants making it somehow absurd for the job of consultant to exist. Once consultants were removed, players didn’t face any trouble, nor did the other staff members or the former consultants as they were offered another staff job if I remember it correctly. Players still knew/know who to contact, and to make it easier, developers have implemented some extra features like the question marks in the game chat in front of the chat moderators’ and admins’ nicknames which indeed increases their workload, though I’d not say the position of consultant must be brought back.  Lately, about 1 month ago, a major change has been made to our forum with whom we were so familiar. The Questions & Answers topic as well as the FAQ had been replaced by the help site led by our help site consultants who are not to be confused with the prior consultants. The help site consultants have got a fixed work terrain, namely TO’s help site where they’re answering all players questions. This is a huge difference in comparison with the former consultants who were working like everywhere. All staff jobs have their own ‘work terrain’, except for the first consultants and all other staff members were also helping players in need. Therefore I agree with the removal.

Consultants' main job was to educate, while Chat mods' job was to... punish the ones who didn't learn their lessons. This made Chat mods look like the "bad guys" even though their job was one of the most important jobs in the game, if not the most important one. In my opinion removing Consultants was a good decision. They were a "mixture" of all staff jobs we had at that moment and by removing them the administration drew a splitting line between all staff positions. Now Chat mods answer questions, educate the players and reserve the right to punish their bad students.

I don't know the whole story behind how the decision to remove the position was made, but I can surely say the guys working under the avatar I'm now proudly wearing did an awesome job and were really helpful.
Oh hey! I'm working with an ex-Consultant! We're called Consultants as well and our work is mostly the same: answering players' questions and clearing their doubts.
Good things never go without a return :)

4 to 1 in favor of removing consultants? I feel I should change that; to agree with Devourer. This is coming from a Former Consultant.

While its seems better logistically to have one person do the work of two positions, it affects the quality. Regardless of the shared knowledge between different positions, Consultants were the communities mobile helpdesk that was flexible. Giving chat mods the responsibility of a clean chat AND helping the distressed does not grant flexibility. In the case of Forum/FB mods, they may have to give explanations to clarify things along with keeping a clean and organized space. That space doesn't move as fast as a lobby chat can. And the icons further inhibit moderation.

Just because they didn't have a set home doesn't mean thats a big issue. Consultants could have been assigned to the chat, forum, or facebook and work directly in partnership with moderators that way. Completely scraping their purpose could have been avoided.

Consultants were the list of help directions that the game completely lacks within its interface. Removing the position and shifting the workload is simply a poor customer service move. Get the people to the resources via an in-game list or have someone communicate them for us on site.

you know if you ever want to interview people from our community for this you could always open a form after one of these topics and ask for people to write their name or tell them to pm you on an alternate account :P
