Discussion: Your Windows 10 upgrade plans?

"... I'm saying we don't do a new version to fix bugs. We don't. Not enough people would buy it. You can take a hundred people using Microsoft Word. Call them up and say "Would you buy a new version because of bugs?" You won't get a single person to say they'd buy a new version because of bugs. "

Well, it's pretty simple to go to 'Privacy' in the settings menu and disable these features. In fact it was the first thing I did following the upgrade.

As for your comment about Edge, it's actually turning out to be a pretty fast browser, and when extension support is released, I'll be considering it over the memory-hogging Chrome.

lol they may want you to think that you "disabled" the feature but whether or not you disabled it only the admin of the computer system can truly make it stop recording your key strokes... and does any other operating system do this..? Its an all time low for Windows...

both browsers are just resource system hogs, but google chrome at least covers it up well. However my choice would be Opera or Stainless. smaller internet browsing companies are the way to go, because they arnt pushed by the media to do stupid things.

Erm, it's my computer, I am the admin. And yes, other operating systems have privacy settings too - both Windows 7 and 8 had targeted advertising which could be disabled.

I'm not sure how Google Chrome 'covering it up well' is a good thing. I'm speaking as somebody who has used Chrome for years, and I'm still considering switching to Edge.

Also, clarify something for me. How are web browser companies pushed to do things by the media? If anything they're pushed to improve by their competitors.

Well thanks for the info.
But I will definitely not in the "Change  privacy options" first offered option, turn it off, doing so will reset my ID. That's a NO! NO!.
Nor will I turn off the other options.
Later on you will realize what you have done.
And by the way what you have done, does not solve your "Bugs", it will just create more "Issues".

When it says it will 'reset your ID', it means your advertising ID, not your Microsoft account or anything like that. The advertising ID just contains info about your computer and location, etc, which is useful to advertisers. What I'm trying to say is, you may as well switch that option off - it'll only allow you more privacy.

I'm not sure what your point is regarding 'what I have done'. All I did was disable settings to allow me more privacy. As for these 'bugs' and 'issues', I haven't had a single problem with Windows 10 yet, and I've been running it daily for the past week now.

Oh, you know, how like maybe the only way they make money is by appealing to to publics needs...? Yes part of it is by staying competitive with other companies, but thats only to appeal to there users...

Appealing to public needs... that's the whole point of companies.

I'm not sure where you're going with this argument anyway - my point was that Edge is a worthy competitor to Chrome, such so that I might consider using Edge as my main browser soon.

You may be correct. Microsoft started giving away Millions of free Windows 10 Upgrades.

If millions of Users start doing what you are doing (disabling those privacy options); what do think Microsoft may start doing?.
Well now they already know who is responsible for their revenue lost.
It's you and the other Millions.
Maybe, just maybe to punish you and the other Millions, for example,  Microsoft may make sure you and the other Millions, let say, perhaps you and them will no longer receive important updates, or create some sort of inconvenience for you and them for your system not to properly work.
I know this is farfetched, but Microsoft has the knowhow to do it.
And you and them will never know what hit you, or maybe realize it .
Something to think about!!.
That's why I mentioned "Later on you will realize what you have done".

Well, the thing is, most average computer users are blissfully unaware of these settings anyway. When you upgrade to Windows 10 and choose the 'express' install option, all settings are enabled. Only the more aware computer users will choose the 'custom' install option and disable the privacy settings.

You're joking, right?

From both a moral and legal standpoint, Microsoft would never discriminate against users. And besides, if they did, people would notice straight away and the company would run into huge problems.

What you're failing to understand is that Microsoft knew that some people would disable the privacy settings when they released Windows 10, - why else would they put the privacy settings menu there in the first place?

Answering your question.
I only joke only when necessary, never when I'm having a serious conversation.
And please don't tell me "I'm failing to understand", you have no authority to make that observation, to me this is an indirect "Insult".

I saw before that you have thoughts to upgrade at 10. You still have not decided?

I upgraded it and everything went smoothly.

I'm not a big fan of the new borderless windows. I like the look of Win 7 better.

Well if you downgrade no much loss. At alternative PC i still have XP

I've done a bit more digging around. There's a Preview version around that likely contains bugs. It would do to get a feel of Win 10 for those nervous about the differences from their present version.

I've reserved a copy of the Upgrade. My plan is to first install it on a netbook I don't care about. I'll use it for a week or two then decide if I want my main desktop to work the same way.

Well, forgive me if I've insulted you, but I found your thoughts on the matter to be very far-fetched.

Seriously though, I did think you were joking. That's how crazy your whole Microsoft conspiracy sounded.

You are repeating your previous words.
In my second reply posting to you, I myself said that my theory may be far-fetched.
And that's the only thing we both agree. :)
