I used to use shaft all the time but since they added the laser and then the mouse controls glitch, I haven't played it. To me, it is not fun any more.

I agree with many others, shaft is a sniper weapon and snipers are meant to be hidden. I'm more afraid of vulcan then shaft. Especially if they get an isida camping with them. Who's idea was it to give vulcan unlimited range? It's a machine gun.

Damage of vulcan depends on range...am I wrong?

Yay! Someone who agrees with me! :)

So basically, Shaft was totally OP. At first the Devs fiddled with it's damage, but it eventually became apparent that the real issue was that no player could identify where the Shaft was attacking them from, thus making Shaft incredibly OP.

You make it sound like other turrets have it easy. Each turret has a distinct advantage, and a distinct disadvantage. For example, Shaft's strength is the fact it can deal a huge amount of damage in one shot at great distances. Yet it's disadvantage is the fact that there is a limited viewing area while sniping, and once the Shaft has gathered power, the laser is visible. Thunder does a good deal of damage along with the added bonus of splash damage, though doesn't have the same range as Shaft or Railgun. The downside is that the splash damage can have a negative effect on you. Railgun does high damage per shot at great distances, and at M4 can even have 100% penetration power, but the turret rotates slowly, and all modifications must wait one second before the gun can fire due to a charge time, not to mention that reloading is also quite slow. You see, all turrets have things that make them both attractive, and unattractive.

By the way, there's a simple trick to prevent others from spotting your laser. Place your take near some obstruction, and then when you begin to snipe, put your laser right on the edge of that obstruction. You will then be able to see right in front of you, and your opponents will stroll right into your line of fire without suspecting a thing. Also, as a general tip, sometimes it's good to choose camouflage over protection. Sometimes I even end up using Forester just because it lets me hide better in bushes or against a background. Though keep in mind, this is only useful if people rarely see your laser, but in combination, it can make you deadly.

I don't understand why people had trouble finding them before. When you get killed the map zooms out until you respawn - I always used this as an opportunity to locate the Shaft who whacked me so I could then go pay it a visit. :P

Almost impossible in big maps with lots of open grounds like Serpuhov. If there are multiple shafts, they can scan the whole area so that no one can get out of cover. Most of them would be sitting behind enemy lines.

Laser makes it a fair battle.

I play Serpuhov regularly and I never had problems finding Shafts. There are only a few places where they are effective.

Even if I get killed in red base I can still see all the way to blue base when the camera zooms out. All tanks are visible during this time.

I like laser, without it, shaft was too strong. Many shafters are so lazy waiting 2 mins for shoot, they mostly complain and they are useless in battles on medium maps.

I play with shaft on polygon, often killing others in 2 seconds time after turing on sniper mode.

Ok. Shafts are useless because of update. Shaft had no advantage over other turrets. Shaft is so useless that when I use shaft I feel like I'm multing. I until freeze m2 only used shaft.... Because I could find good spots and not be seen. However my score was not the highest and the enemy did not lose all the Time. The shaft was balanced and useful. The shaft has turned from long range weapon to a disadvantaged long range and a disadvantaged short range and a useless mid range

I have played tanki for 1 year 3 months and I reached generallismo in 8 months. My shaft was loved by my teams

The problem is light hulls. Shaft can easily 1 hit you with a light hull, with absolutely no warning or even any idea where it came from. You just die. That's not fun.

So you can't use a suppressed sniper?

Actually, you can't. Sniper rifles fire bullets at supersonic speeds. There's actually 2 bangs when you fire a supersonic bullet, first, the gunpowder ignition, which can be suppressed, and second, the sonic boom, which can't.

Oh crud, there is no supersonic bullet yet.

I do not entirely agree.I think that each weapon must have a defect, in fact shaft, before the modification was too strong.

Well how about something at least not as noteasable like make the laser very dim blue or very dim red. like almost clear but not quite

There can only be like 1-2 Shafts per team unless it's Serpuhov or something in which case MAYBE you can go up to 3.

Too many shafts ruin a team. 100% lose from my experiences. That's why I love it when all my enemies are Shafts. :D

I already explained on teh first page all the reasoning behind Shaft's laser and why is was necessary to add it, but just to prove my point, here's a post I've just seen on 9GAG, proving that although real life snipers are always 100% hidden, in games hidden snipers are often OP: http://9gag.com/gag/anBdd1q
