Shaft with a Laser?

I already explained on teh first page all the reasoning behind Shaft's laser and why is was necessary to add it, but just to prove my point, here's a post I've just seen on 9GAG, proving that although real life snipers are always 100% hidden, in games hidden snipers are often OP: http://9gag.com/gag/anBdd1q

So basically, Shaft was totally OP. At first the Devs fiddled with it's damage, but it eventually became apparent that the real issue was that no player could identify where the Shaft was attacking them from, thus making Shaft incredibly OP.

You make it sound like other turrets have it easy. Each turret has a distinct advantage, and a distinct disadvantage. For example, Shaft's strength is the fact it can deal a huge amount of damage in one shot at great distances. Yet it's disadvantage is the fact that there is a limited viewing area while sniping, and once the Shaft has gathered power, the laser is visible. Thunder does a good deal of damage along with the added bonus of splash damage, though doesn't have the same range as Shaft or Railgun. The downside is that the splash damage can have a negative effect on you. Railgun does high damage per shot at great distances, and at M4 can even have 100% penetration power, but the turret rotates slowly, and all modifications must wait one second before the gun can fire due to a charge time, not to mention that reloading is also quite slow. You see, all turrets have things that make them both attractive, and unattractive.

By the way, there's a simple trick to prevent others from spotting your laser. Place your take near some obstruction, and then when you begin to snipe, put your laser right on the edge of that obstruction. You will then be able to see right in front of you, and your opponents will stroll right into your line of fire without suspecting a thing. Also, as a general tip, sometimes it's good to choose camouflage over protection. Sometimes I even end up using Forester just because it lets me hide better in bushes or against a background. Though keep in mind, this is only useful if people rarely see your laser, but in combination, it can make you deadly.

Tankers , My name is JTP, and i've been using shaft for years now . There are alot of errors in this short tip . I would like to correct them .

  • wasp , hornet , hunter are all 1 shot to a shaft the same modification as them unless a paint with 27% anti shaft protection and above .
  • Keep your laser pointed on an object close to you and wait till the enemy goes into the open , take your time , patience , and take your shot
  • If you cant find an object , simply aim at the ground .
  • camouflage is all about the angle of which the enemy is seeing you from  , not left - right , back to front . Remember your surroundings .
  • Shaft combat isn't all about camouflage , in monte carlo , camouflage can be replaced by anti protection paints .

Thats all the tips for now , ill give my full legendary shaft guide out some day soon . Good luck on the battlefield and good hunting

Yeah, the laser was a dumb addition meant to nerf the shaft, even though it had been already nerfed into oblivion, but, you can just hide the laser behind a corner until you need to use it.

This. When creating a game, fun always takes priority over realism (unless the game is specifically marketed as hyper-realistic). A hidden, practicially undetectable sniper may be more realistic, but getting 1shot without even knowing where it came from is no fun, especially if there's no killcam.
