The ship shook. Alan glanced….

Time out. So you’re telling me that you don’t remember anything before this and this doesn’t make sense? Ok, I guess I could understand that, since I published Part 1 maybe 6 months ago and then forgot about it. I should make you go find it yourself, but because I’m nice, I’ll link Part 1 here. And while I’m on that track, I might tell you that I was nice enough to put Parts 2 and 3 together so you don’t have to deal with too many cliffhangers. And then I might tell you that I wasn’t nice enough to put Part 4 (the ending) here. So you might say that you’re forced to wait, at my mercy, to read the ending. And I might agree with you *evil laugh* (but I promise I won't post Part 4 in six months like Parts 1-3) And now you’re telling me to get on with the story. I have two more things to say first, one is to tell you that a lot of the science in this story isn’t factual; this story is for entertainment purposes and not a science lesson; the second is that I apologize in advance for the text walls, but bear with me, I hope you find it worth it. And now you’re telling me to shut up and tell the story, in which I would respond saying that if I shut up, I wouldn’t be able to tell the story, but whatever. Where was I? Oh, yes….

The ship shook. Alan peered through the window. Massive gunfire rained down from the three starships that were attacking. He could feel the powerful armory of cannons beat down on their shield. Alarms sounded and dozens of lights turned red as Alan stood helplessly, staring out the window. The cruisers broke out of formation to assault the attacking force, but it was too late. One cruiser was quickly destroyed, followed by the other exploding into a heap of space debris that would float away and never be seen again. There was nothing left to defend the cargo ship for the attacking space-terrorists, who quickly boarded. They came out a minute later, all carrying boxes as they rode the grappling hooks back to their starships. Seconds later, the cargo ship exploded. Alan’s starship was the only one left, and Alan planned to keep it alive as he ordered it to retreat back to headquarters. He knew GST’s starships were known for their firepower, but they were also slow and sluggish, and could be quickly outrun by ILE’s elite ships. As the starship disappeared from the battle site, Alan knew the General wouldn’t be happy with this.

“Captain Alan Thompson,” Although it was just a name, the words penetrated Alan like any gunshot would as the General spoke. “That was a very important convoy that you destroyed. I expected better from my second-in-command.”

The General started at Alan, waiting for a response. Alan fidgeted in his chair. “I didn’t see the GST starships coming. They just seemed to materialize out of nowhere. What was so important in that convoy?”

“Come with me,” the General walked toward the wall, which opened into a massive room, filled with the deep blue lights of computer screens. Alan’s eyes bulged at the sight of how much advanced technology was in a single room. “I think you’ve been in our control room, Alan.” muttered the General as he walked up toward a large screen on the wall. Immediately it lit up. “We never told you what was in the cargo ship for safety reasons. If you knew what it was, you would’ve been a target. But now that they have it, you might as well know what it is.”

The general paused, then turned to the screen. A barrel with the radioactive symbol on it appeared. “Along with some weapons and supplies, you were carrying uranium. Unstable uranium, for that matter. One ounce can easily destroy a city. You had two pounds of it, enough to destroy a few planets. Now that GST has it, nobody is safe.” The General stared directly at Alan. “We are considering sending you into GST headquarters to retrieve it.”

“Okay,” replied Alan. “When do I leave?”

“Not yet.” the General’s face was stone cold and emotionless. “There’s more to this story. Two weeks ago, a man and a spacecraft were reported missing. It was said that he was an agent of GST, his craft was carry another pound of uranium, and he went missing in Sector C. Coincidentally, we had a unit on patrol in the area, and the camera on his cruiser recorded this.” The General pointed toward the screen. A video appeared and began playing.

When it was done, Alan spoke up. “So the man was killed and his ship stolen. Let me guess, you want me to go there, and investigate that?”

“Yes, in addition to stopping GSP. Coordinates have been programed into your computer. You leave tomorrow. Pre-mission briefing is in an hour. You will have the rest of the night to prepare. Goodbye Captain Thompson, and good luck.”

Part 3:

The time had come. Alan got into his space cruiser, a standard cruiser with a few upgrades, and prepared to take off of ILE’s private runway. It was a fairly short runway, but then again they didn’t need to be long because most spacecraft could accelerate very quickly. The radio tower gave Alan the signal, and he pushed the throttle lever. He could feel his hands shaking at the controls, as this would be one of the most dangerous mission he would ever encounter. He pulled back on the stick, and felt his center of gravity shift behind him as the cruiser’s nose lifted. Rapidly, the ILE headquarters disappeared into the blackness of space.

Space is an interesting place. One moment it seems like such an interesting, epic place. The next, a large black vortex of nothingness. To Alan it felt like the latter of those two. He felt small, alone even, as he crossed the border. Out of Sector A and into Sector C.

It was a fairly long and boring flight, but finally Alan reached planet XK-94, a planet quite similar to Terra Firma (the name earth goes by from most people in space), the planet containing the base. Alan quickly landed his cruiser behind some hills and began to creep up on the large walls surrounding the headquarters.

Suddenly a guard glanced over at him. “Hey! What are you doing here!” Alan fumbled and retrieved his laser pistol, a standard issue LP-14, with settings of daze, stun, kill, and overkill, and shot the guard. Out cold, for now. Alan quickly scaled the wall and dropped to the ground on the opposite side. He was surprised at what he saw on the other side: a large field with a rather small building in the middle. There were no guards, but then again there wouldn’t need to be with a large, heavily guarded wall in the way.

The building in the middle was bigger than Alan expected as he approached it. The walls were painted the shade of grey that says “Don’t come near me,” they were completely blank except for the lone door in the middle. Alan tried the handle, it was open. He was amazed at what was inside. He could see the tops of nine rockets. There was an elevator to Alan’s left, so he climbed in and it took him underground a ways, until he was at the bottom of the rockets. There, Alan found a table that had a remote labeled “Launch” on it.

“It can’t be this easy,” Alan muttered to himself.

“It’s not.”

To be continued...

The first part was about 4 months ago, too long.

....since I published Part 1 maybe 6 months ago and then forgot about it.....(but I promise I won't post Part 4 in six months like Parts 1-3)....

I am aware. It won't happen again until after Part 4 if I write more.

Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback! It is much appreciated!

Oh and maybe I should've mentioned that when I put "Tomorrow" on the poll, I was joking. It's not going to happen (because really, a 1-3 day cliffhanger leaves almost no suspense and is way to nice :P). So far, it's looking like Part 4 will come out next Friday or Saturday.
