Part 4:

“It can’t be this easy,” Alan muttered to himself.

“It’s not,” the voice came from nowhere and startled Alan, who quickly turned to look at the speaker. Then two guards grabbed Alan from behind and took him to a makeshift jail cell. “And don’t think you can escape,” the voice grew fainter as the man speaking presumably walked away. “You think you can stop me? Do you think you can destroy my nuclear missiles before I launch? Operation Rocket Strike will go on. You won’t even be able to escape my prison. That cell’s indestructible.”

Indestructible. There had to be a way out, a weak spot. Alan glanced over at the lock. It was very basic, a simple lock-and-key. Alan had taken lock-picking classes at ILE, and this lock was a simple pick. As he thought his luck couldn’t get any better, he found a paperclip laying on the ground in the cell, the perfect tool to escape. Then after sticking it in the lock and poking around in it, Alan heard a click and the lock dropped to the ground, opened. Quietly, he opened the cell door, and found the hallway empty. He looked left. The hallway went on for a while, splitting off many times. He looked right. A short path with what looked like part of a rocket at the end. That was the path he took. Staying more hidden this time, Alan creeped into the area. Looking closer, he found a second button on the remote labeled “Self Destruct”. Immediately, Alan pressed it, then turned toward the elevator and ran. Red lights flashed as the words “Self destruct in one minute” came over the intercom. Alan reached the top of the elevator as the self destruction timer hit thirty seconds. Alan never ran that far that fast. He cleared the field and was climbing the wall before the explosion. As he jumped off the wall, time slowed down as the building behind him exploded into a massive fireball. The boom was deafening. The wall exploded from the blast, taking the hit for Alan.

It was over. Alan was back at ILE headquarters. He had saved nine planets, including Earth, but he had killed the hundreds of people who were in that base. He had saved thousands, but he may never do another mission like that again. He felt horrible. It was just too much to bear. He didn’t know what he would do now.

The End.
