Has Tanki Become Better or Worse Over Time?

Introduction

To start this topic off, I haven't been here for all six years of Tanki's lifetime, but I have been here for the most recent two years. Two years doesn't seem like much but a lot has happened in two years.

Graphical Improvements

When I started playing Tanki, the graphics were not great to say the least. Tanki's graphics have improved immensely in two years time. Tanki developers have added shadows, lighting, and particles that really make a difference, for example, shadows can help you to see someone around a corner, this helps a lot more than you'd think, mostly in maps like Noise and Silence.

The Addition of Micro Upgrades

The addition of micro upgrades was different, it gave Generalissmos something to spend their crystals on and personally, I thought they would make a bigger and more noticeable difference. The newest addition to micro upgrades has improved it but it's still not worth it. I fully micro upgraded my M1 Ricochet to M2 just after the update came out and it was still a ripoff, I wanted to stop in the middle of it but then it would've costed me more crystals just to upgrade it immediately.

Equipment Change

When I found out I could change equipment in battle, I got excited. No more leaving the battle just to change a paint or use a different hull or whatever then get your spot in battle taken by someone Staff Sergeant who doesn't know how to turn their turret. The only problem with it was it was that you had to wait 15 minutes before you could change that item on your tank again, thank God now it's only one minute.

New Weapon?

Hammer was added into Tanki online almost a year ago now, and if you remember anything of what it used to look like then you are one of the lucky people who got on the test servers at the right time and actually realized there was a new gun to buy. In my opinion, Hammer is one of the most over-powered weapons considering what it was meant to be. Hammer is supposed to be a shotgun, right? Wrong. This thing is like the KSG off of CoD BO2, it shouldn't be a shotgun if people can kill you cross map with it.

Another New Weapon?

Vulcan, on the other hand, I didn't play with early because I was taking a somewhat long break from Tanki at the time. When I got back, I saw this new weapon and thought, this thing might be just as op as Hammer. That's when I realized it sucks and to this day I don't know why M1 Vulcan is sitting in my garage. I do know that Tanki fixed Vulcan's major recoil problem though, some friends told me how bad it was and I saw a video of it.

Frustrating Re-balances

The new re-balance to every gun in the game and some of the hulls wasn't in my opinion very necessary. All this did was make Isida practically useless on maps like Silence and made it more suited for maps like Island. I don't even want to mention all of the other weapon re-balances that were unnecessary, and Hammer didn't even get a nerf which surprised me, that only thing it got was slightly wider cone spread.

New Maps Gone Bad

The new maps added around a year ago were good for about a week then no one knew what half of them were. Some of these maps were Madness (Which was brought back) and Esplanade which were the two most popular ones to come out of that. Then Highland and Silence had been completely changed. Who remember when you could go all the way around the side of Highland, take the flag, and go back to capture it before anyone knew. Silence used to not have a tunnel system, or a huge gap between the buildings by the Red flag, or a space where you can fall off when attacking the Blue flag on the right. Along with this, some maps were removed from Tanki, one for example is Silence 2 (If you haven't noticed by now, I loved Silence until it was changed, then I played non-stop on Noise and now I mostly play on Island and Arena), which was available for higher ranked players who liked Silence but wanted something a bit different.

Supply Changes

When the Tanki crew decided to make supplies (drugs) less over-powered, this changed how everyone used their supplies much differently based on what kind of situation they were in instead of putting on all three and running into the battlefield mindlessly, however, with this mines got a buff. The arm time for mines was changed to one second instead of two making them much more deadly. Another small change was that Medic Kit Boxes became better because they did the same thing as the normal drugging ones, along with this, Isida and Medic Kits would remove elemental effects (ex. Freeze/Burn). Soon after this, the supplies got different logos, not a big deal except when I logged in and tried to pick up a box that I couldn't tell if it was a Nitro or 2x Damage.

Extra Notes

Please post what you may want me to add into this article that I may have forgotten about.

Keep in mind I keep this page updated, so if you see any sort of recommendation on how to make this article better and it's already there, I might have updated this page since that post.

If anyone would like for me to make any other posts on a different topic I would love to as long as I already know about it.

Flash player is starting to get old. As the game becomes more complex, flash will fail more frequently.

I'm getting more errors when playing on full screen than on a cropped one, also graphic settings make a difference.

I used to play on my laptop with just mip-mapping on, getting disconnected by an error was really rare.

I play at full settings now, in full screen. And there are definitely way more errors.

This is not about my PC,- flash can't keep up with the graphics.

Mouse controls are pretty good on the standalone flash, but fail miserably in browser versions.

And even in the standalone, there are FPS drops when you move the cursor.

I don't think they can fix that, it's the flash player.

Good thing they're moving to Unity.

I'll stick to that version, no matter if they move my stats to it or not.

I'm pretty sure 60FPS will look quite a bit better in the new version.

True that.

Vulcan M4 can destroy an Mammoth M4 in 8 seconds, the exact time it takes for Vulcan to even start overheating. So Vulcan is in no way bad, at least speaking of max stats.

M1 Ricochet is not a good thing to MU as it has a moderately low M2 unlock rank. If you MU anything below M3, it has to have a massive gap between upgrades to be anywhere near worth it and then you wouldn't be able to purchase other gear pieces. Smoky,Wasp, Titan M1 and Dictator and Rico M2 are the only things I would ever suggest MUing before M3. And even then you might be better off just getting newer M3 gear.

Hammer was overpowered. Then they added paints. A good Hammer paint would help a lot. I have one that makes a Hammer take a full 4 shots to kill my Wasp.

I agree that repair kits are a bit powerful than what they really should be, but the change to mines just makes them a better tool for melee fights. I think everyone should both use them and use tactics to avoid them. Just don't chase people in a straight line. Mines can't move, but you can!

So far I haven't seen anyone fully MUing equipment stuff below M3. Like full MU Firebird m2.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, I started muing during an mu sale but almost everything got to about half, at that point I thought, I've come this far I've gotta finish, I had M2 Rico by Major.

I myself am using a (almost )fully Mu'd Smoky/Wasp M1. This is in response to a challenge in that I am supposed to get to Colonel using nothing but Smoky/Wasp using nothing but in-game earned crystals. I have been immensely successful so far. I'm almost finished with my Hull's speed and my turret's knockback, but they together have full HP, turning speed, reload speed, damage, and turret rotation speed.

I've also tried my best not to rely on Criticals, so I haven't given them any attention. Smoky's normal damage should suffice. Even with this, I have been able to be competitive against M2s in a single, M1 combo, so I would say that MUs are not totally worthless (I do agree that they are another way to make more money, but they have to make money some how, right?)

Agree with all you've said, mate, except perhaps the bit about maps.

You see, what the devs have done is, Highland and Silence were proving too beneficial for one team, therefore they 'nefed' it. They removed those around-the-corner thing to make Highland challenging and fun (and it sure is), and the tunnel system to give some modicum of an advantage to the Red team as well, as opposed to the blue-dominated gameplay there was before.

For me it was always even, both sides had access to the "around-the-corner" spot and Highland wasn't as open to Shafts as it is now.
