More Inclusive XP/BP Paint Roster

Recommended Posts

We understand the reason that certain paints must be included into the XP/BP system to equalize health loss upon taking damage. Without them, an M3 Railgun would easily obliterate M2 and possibly M3 Wasps from the map. However, I have had some misgivings about certain paint option standards, mainly regarding M3 Wasp.

What we know about the paints:

M2 Hornet/Wasp may only use these paints in an XP/BP match:

  • Fracture (20% Railgun protection)
  • Sandstone (20% Railgun protection)
  • Blacksmith (17% Railgun protection)
  • Savannah (20% Railgun protection)
  • Raccoon (20% Railgun protection)
  • Bronze (20% Railgun protection)
  • Veteran (20% Railgun protection)

M3 Wasp may only use these paints in an XP/BP match:

  • Forester (10% Railgun protection)
  • Corrosion (10% Railgun protection)
  • Emerald (10% Railgun protection)

M3 Wasp can also opt to decline the use of any of the prior M3 BP paints, using a non-protective paint.

Keeping all of this in mind, I noticed a few inconsistencies with the distribution of paints into XP/BP matches.

I.) M2 Paint selection

With the M2 XP/BP paints, the general center of their protection rates stays at 20%, spare one exception: Blacksmith. 17% is no big difference in resistance, and the damage rate will stay generally the same throughout. The difference between Blacksmith and other common XP/BP paints is trivial.

However, if the gap was wide enough to include an outlier such as Blacksmith, then my question would have to be: "What about Acid and Helper? They're within the range already preset by Blacksmith's oddity; why can't they be accepted as well?"

17 < 18 < 20. Under this logic, why on Earth aren't they acceptable M2 XP/BP paints?

II.) M3 BP paint selection

Quoting the Format Battles section of the Tanki Online Wiki,

"With Wasp M3 only paints without Railgun protections or Forester, Corrosion, Emerald (10%) paints can be used."

This means that any paint without Railgun protection can be used on an M3 Wasp, and the paints listed above are the only ones with Railgun resistance that indeed can be used. Keeping this in mind, I'm going to introduce you to every paint in the game with a Railgun resistance lower than 10%:

  • Chainmail (6% Railgun protection)
  • Dirty (8% Railgun protection)
  • Winter (5% Railgun protection)

Again, the same prevalent issue with the M2 paint inconsistencies makes a return here. If the limit to M3 Wasp's Railgun protection in a format battle is 0% to 10%, wouldn't it make sense for these paints to be included in the roster as well? Having just a maximum and minimum standard without including these very viable options leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever I play a match like these.

Not only would adding these paints to the Format battles make for a more diverse group of colors on the field (not like that aspect matters much, but I believe the edition would satisfy those that would enjoy using a different paint besides the very selective group already prepared), but the confusion generated by this double standard would be eliminated.

Maybe it's just because I fail to understand why the option list is as selective as it is. If you know precisely why it was designed like this, please, feel free to share.

(Also, I'm not absolutely sure if I posted this in the right section or not. If this topic would be better suited in a different partition of the forum, please notify me.)

Good points there, yes I really wish they allow some paints which are in the range but aren't allowed for no-wonder-what-reason.

The only logical explanation I could come up with is redundant marketing strategies. Even then, that doesn't explain the reason why M2 Hornet/Wasp can't support Acid or Helper.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything here. It's always bugged me that I couldn't buy Winter as a BP paint, even though the Rail range lies perfectly between the legal range...

Not quite sure a heavy drink is the source of the problem...

But still, you've gotta wonder what they were thinking when they set up the Wasp paint selection. Did they just flat out ignore the other three paints? And what about the likes of paints such as Tiger for M2 Hornet/Wasp?

And what about the likes of paints such as Tiger for M2 Hornet/Wasp?

I did not include these due to Blacksmith already having set the current boundaries. Tiger, Lucky7 and Star all have 15% Railgun protection, but it would make sense not to include them because of the already organized standards, stating that 17% is the absolute limit. My misgivings stem from the paints that are within the preset range, yet still refuse to be accepted as proper paints.

I think Tiger should be added as a format BP paint, the range for railgun protection in format BP is 10-20%, tiger has 15%.  Seeing as blacksmith has 17% protection it stands to reason that it is not just the paints with exactly 10% or exactly 20% are allowed, as blacksmith is a paint allowed in format BP.  So I think Tiger should be added to the list of paints that are available for use in format BP battles.

paints can only be 20% or 10%. there is no range for XP/BP. unless you are suggesting that Tiger's protection of Railgun should be inceased.

nice idea by the way :D

Blacksmith is allowed in format xp(M2) and bp(M2) and blacksmith has 17% protection.

M3 hornet is not allowed protection at all, and wasp M3 is allowed 0 %or 10% protection.

However both hornet and wasp M2 are allowed to use blacksmith with 17% protection.

Thats why I assumed it was a range.
