Change in forum feedback mechanism

Tankers,

We have just reworked the feedback mechanism in the forums.

You can still LIKE posts. However, from now on, if there’s something you disagree with, you will have to express your criticism in the form an actual post.

Why did we do this?

Because the forum is where you come to express your opinions, as well as give your feedback and critique — it’s a place for open discussion.

But when that feedback is just a DISLIKE button, there’s no dialog. There’s no way of understanding what the criticism is about, and no way of acting on it to make the situation better.

A simple DISLIKE button does not improve the discussion, and it does not make the community or the game a better place.

We hope this change will help improve dialog in the forum, for all the above reasons and more.

Please feel free to share your opinions about this change by leaving a comment below. As always, the more detailed your feedback, the more helpful it will be.

I DONT CARE

Fix the server laggs

that i care

What on Earth? Is this Facebook now? I know we'd all like to live in happy rainbowland where fairies bring us cake every day as we float on our boats made of pure happiness floating on rivers made from pure sparkles and ponies and we live long happy lives before we die of diabeetus, but that's not how things work. (Except that last bit)

When YouTube took out the dislikes, the type of comments that then thrived were the controversial troll comments. That's what happens when you take out the dislike button.

Sorry to say, but the dumb guy is you. In this particular case at least. I don't wanna get you and some others out of the bubble you live in, but Tanki is long since not a paradise.

Do you seriously think Tanki staff reads our feedback? If I were Tanki Staff, I'd barely read any comment, since there are so many. Downvoting and Upvoting was their method to see bluntly how what they were doing was liked or not, and removing Downvotes for the reason Semyon mentioned is just impossible. They're oppressing us, and if you think otherwise - think again.

If you STILL think that we aren't being oppressed - tell me what you're smoking now. I'll go buy it from my drug dealer.

I don't know whether to cry or laugh.. Have you even read what I wrote or just thought I said exactly what Slyclever did?

I didn't say anything about not bothering to read. Take care of your brain and your eyes, plus - learn how to read. You might find it helpful.

Sure thing bro

This is not a bad thing actually.

I think we'll see much more decent discussions between forum users now.

Ha ha ha ha, funny joke you tell.

Are the YouTube comments more decent since they removed dislikes?

NO!

THIS. Thanks,

Finally, this Forum will be a place where real, well-structured and meaningful discussions will be posted and enjoyed by everyone.

All those users using their main and alt accounts to downvote others' posts just to provocate and create childish arguments while staying hidden will now have to show themselves to express their dislikes and face the consequencies if they start trolling and provocating.

Also, this will endorse the existence of POSITIVE CRITICISM - Tanki Online does not forbid criticism, at all. Tanki Online Helpers and Administration gladly welcome criticism as far as it is brought to attention politely and with the appropriate manners, not with random dislikes and pointless ranting without a logic.

lots of dislikes prevent a player from giving honest opinion. If a post, whether it's by us or by other tanker, has -20, most players wouldn't give it their honest feedback as they get a first impression from the dislike number, without even reading the post.

This is another clear example taken from the "everyday life of a Forumer" - users tend to follow the mass, the "big group", they try to avoid going against it since they would be isolated and mistreated, so if 20 peoples downvote something on purpose, other users will simply pass by and randomly downvote that thing, even if they may have liked it at first.

This is, so far, one of the best updates I've seen on Forum after 5 years of being in it as a player and three as a Forum Moderator, it is a clear example of how much the Administration cares for the users and the time they spend online while being part of a huge Community.

Sure thing bro

You are just distorting what I said.

I didn't mean that I would be too lazy to read - I clearly meant that when having over 10 pages of comments, it's a lot more useful and effective to see in numbers who likes an update and who dislikes it. By a simple click, a player could imply whether he liked it or not, and without the Staff needing to read an entire passage or longer, they'd just see which button did the player click, if at all.

Like I said - learn how to read and to understand the idea behind what you read. That might help you.

I do respect the fact that you're in this forum a lot more than me, and know about it more than me, but I disagree with you.

Without looking at all the explanations that were given for or against this update - don't you see a clear connection between the dissatisfaction Tanker's Day caused (hence the innumerous downvotes) and this update?

I'm willing to bet on any body part you choose that this update is a direct result of the great response against the greediness of Tanki.
I agree that players tend to follow the masses, but I think that in order for an opposition to grow against an action the Staff does, there must be something beyond that. I think that as some suggested, it would be great not to be able to view voting results until you've downvoted or upvoted an official post.

Thing is - do you seriously believe that 481 (that's the number that was there the last time I checked) downvoted would have been done just because of following the masses?

Do you believe that such angry comments on the endless hunt of the Developers after money would just come without any reason?

Even if what you're saying about following the masses is right - someone has to START those big masses, and those who started those masses had a damn good reason.

I'm not too sure about this. Surely you should be equally entitled to a negative opinion, as you are a positive opinion.

But when that feedback is just a DISLIKE button, there’s no dialog. There’s no way of understanding what the criticism is about, and no way of acting on it to make the situation better.

A simple DISLIKE button does not improve the discussion, and it does not make the community or the game a better place.

The points you made above can also be made for a LIKE button, in exactly the same fashion. Opinions go both ways, after all.

All this update has done, is give bias towards the positive opinion, which is contradictory to your aim of a fairer forum.

Excellent update, this is the end of the forum troll now.

NO!

Here's what happens, troll posts obnoxious, inflammatory comment, 100 people hate it, 10 people like it. Now it gets ignored by 100 people but gets 10 likes.

I don't know what your implications of me being a 5-year-old have to do with this.

I think it would be good to add another way to show a topic's popularity. Something like a view/like ratio, because the current number of likes doesn't accurately show to what extent most players agree with the topic. Although I agree that forcing players to express their opinion in a comment instead of just downvoting the post is a good thing.

Ha ha ha ha, funny joke you tell.

NO!

You can still dislike something, but you need to post for that; and most of those posts have an opinion included aswell.

It can filter out the trolls... still need to see how this goes though.

I agree, Youtube shouldn't have removed the dislike funtion... because it's not really a forum, it's a comment system.

But this interface here is actually made for discussions, so I don't think removing the dislike feature will be as bad here, as it is on Youtube.

Google+ was probably the worst thing that could happen to Youtube's comment system.
