Biology is boring ok

Except that ONE chapter you study in higher grades

Um, no. Even though it might seem exciting, the chapter is extremely boring (and also tough)

Define osmosis.

Osmosis is a form of passive transportation where solvent molecules are transported from a low concentration solution to a high concentration solution across a semi permeable membrane.

Credits to my high school bio teacher who made sure that definitions were engraved in our minds. :p

Passive transport*

Osmosis does not require chemical energy from ATP.

Osmosis is the the process of water diffusing into a cell. GIT REKT.

If you were to write this answer in an exam, you would not get full marks. There's no reference to water potential, and the selectively permeable membrane.

It's the passage of water from a region where it has a higher water potential to a region where it has a lower water potential through a selectively permeable membrane. (Solute molecules cannot pass through the membrane, whilst water molecules can.)

Contrast facilitated diffusion and diffusion.

well if bio is boring then economics is even worse than that...

lol econ is interesting

As someone who takes both of them for A-Level, I do prefer Economics.

Mendel's law can predict offspring traits or can enumerate how many offsprings will differ, with which traits, in correspondence of others with different traits.

There are many exceptions to Mendel's Law like the Law of dominance - if you cross a white and a red rose plant then the colour of the rose is neither white nor red but its pink so you can't predict them accurately.

A human being's scientific name - Homo sapiens or H. Sapiens

Follow the rules of writing nomenclature of species. ;)

Heredity is more interesting than the chapter you are talking about.

Not tough :s

You just need to remember the process instead of remembering a number of endocrine glands and harmones :/

No. No. We had to learn everything. All organs involved, all processes involved and all hormones involved.

Did you guys? With genome-related tech scientists can actually pick and add genes to formulate GMOs.

There's a species of frogs in the Western Ghats, India that does acrobatic mating.

The Mahaseer, an exotic freshwater fish found in rivers of the Deccan plateau has been successfully conserved.

Climate change caused a species of plankton in the Atlantic Ocean to migrate wholly to the Arctic areas.

The venom of the Inland Taipan of Australia has the most lethal neurotoxins.

Cholesterol clogs our major arteries when in excess.

..More facts coming soon from my nerd side soon.

Not stolen from Google like most others.

Actually, Biology is very interesting - just that the factor which puts everyone off (including me) is having to write LOADS of points if you want to get full marks for the question, and THAT is extremely tedious, not to mention boring.
