Game wikis opened to public are often of more quality and more constructive, with more information and a page for every notable thing in the game, interesting aspects, more about history and with information of 'mysterious' but existant thing that was or is in the game - updated more regularly, with less mistakes and more friendly and teamworking teams of editors earning their position by contributing the wiki pages they have access to (you know the drill of other wikipedias). Developers would still give information, but not directly and the latest things like Terminator and Juggernaut would already have their pages with respective evidence of appearance, and so on similarly for other things (for example, that UFO account and it's rank, Tanki Online 2.0, Tanki X, glitches, sales, abandoned features, other servers.. etc.). With it, a reliable source of information would be available also for the Wikipedia.org's Tanki Online sites and thus a good information on the game would be available.

Worldwide code of conduct of wikis, otherwise it is not a wiki but information portal just like any other game's official announcement and posts with information but put into one place.

With more visitors you could also put adversitements so the Wiki could run independently on itself, as I am sure not many people mind adversitements or even disable their adblockers (if have any) for the sake of keeping the lovely source alive - I did that on a Kirby wiki :P

It's just also weird going through older vlogs and finding out a thing it you've never heard about or more information on a thing than Wiki provides.

Well, that's my suggestion.

I also applied last time of open applications but I am kind of thankful I wasn't accepted.

Thank you.

Uh, if this community got their hands on the Wiki... Everything would be rainbow text explaining how bad this game is

Seems like I should have posted on RU's forum because RU is controlling all the updates of other Wikis (i.e. only gives some updates to the existing and new pages in EN/DE/PL/xx roster for translating and polishing). Rarely is there any update on EN wiki that already wasn't on the RU already.

That's not how it works, and besides, your idea will never be accepted because it's just not plausible due a number of reasons, which include the obvious ones like trolling and other ones such as technical limits.

please explain why and/or how "it works".

The way we process task and requests or implement updates plus the hierarchy in which we do that doesn't concern you at all. It is a part of our job and it will always remain that way. As aforementioned, your idea or suggestion if you want to call it, is invalid, it simply can't be implemented. Thanks!

Fair enough, but finding compliment 'invalid' too tough in compare to 'valid' in terms of signing the suggestions. Do you really find my suggestion not having a sound basis in logic and/or fact? Well, I relate to definitions.

I do actually, that's how most Wikis work, with the help of all of the community. Unfortunately the developers did not intend for this wiki to be updated that way, and hence, it's called "official" and only a select group of people can operate on it. Otherwise your suggestion would definitely be valid ;)

If I understand correctly, you're proposing that anyone should be able to edit the current wiki, right? Well, even being an admin of the EN wiki, I can't make that transition on my own, even if I wanted to. Such major proposals first need to go through either the CM or the RU wiki admin (who is also an employee of Alternativa) and then through their superiors. When those guys created the wiki, they made the decision that the wiki will be edited only by a dedicated team of trusted helper, most likely because due to the nature of our community, giving players ability to edit the wiki will do more harm than good.

What I mean is, most of the edits made by players will be either intentional trolling/sabotage or spam and pointless/incorrect edits. We would have to check and approve every single one of them, so we would spend longer doing that, than actually making the necessary edits on our own. We are perfectly capable of making edits based on our personal judgement and your requests in this topic (and via the Report button on the wiki), so there is no need to change the current system.

This is basically true, or might be (you don't know before trying it but the probability is high and a fair reason why not to when you are a high authority). So I kind of agree it should stay like this.. but.. Well, do you have to ask for permissions before adding something new to the Wiki(s) and how often does it go through? ...or do you just do what you are being told to? For some things like in examples I mentioned:

...what if I was to dedicate to create a page for them too on my own, relying on reliable sources? Since there is no statement this is a Wiki only for the EN community, shouldn't all the paints that exist or ever existed in all Tanki Online official servers be pointed out on Paints page? If we were to ignore the possible limitations, could every notable thing have a page, matterless on size of the content?

[part of a message removed]

They could just put up the wiki on github.com and people could make changes and submit it to the wiki mods, and if mods agree, they could accept the changes.

but i doubt they will be interested.

a lot of successful projects like jquery, python, stockfish chess engine, several code libraries are open source and that is the reason for their success, because anybody can contribute to the project, without changing the original version.

only the original author decides which changes are desirable or not.

also, not many people will contribute actually, so i don't think trolling is very likely, because it is complicated to deal with so much code.

Our wiki is not the Big Wikipedia. We use the same engine, but for different purposes.

Wiki TO is an official source of trust. It serves extended info about game mechanics and history for those who are not enough with news and announcements. We, developers, can't maintain such a large amount of information on our own, so there is a group of authorized helpers, just like in other areas of in-game volunteering (mods, event helpers, etc.). Wiki was never meant to be publicly editable.

You would never come up with such an idea if Wiki TO didn't actually use MediaWiki engine which is well-known for its usage in open source projects.

But having to check each submission would be far more time consuming than just doing it themselves...

It's also not just simply checking their submission, it's making sure it's factually correct, proofreading it, formatting it, etc. Judging by the immature use of the "Report" system, a far larger scale system like this would certainly not work.

huh huh

you've obviously not used github before.

it highlights every single change before you accept

besides it is much more difficult to troll there, because you need to download the git software first, and then learn how to use it, and create pull requests (suggested changes to the code)

anyways, i don't care, it was Kirby's idea.

The current dedicated and expert wiki team is the best solution. No need to fix an unbroken system.

On the twins page, it says it has the highest rate of fire: isnt Vulcan slightly faster? That might need an edit.

Vulcan deals damage per second, rather than damage per shot, so the "rate of fire" parameter doesn't apply to it.

Oh... Logically though vulcan should be damage per shot also, if it fires bullet, which separates it from the elementals...  From the gamplay perspective it makes sense though.
