See which servers have chat moderators

Recommended Posts

I have had a quite frustrating evening trying to find out who is moderating a certain server, and then trying to engage with them. Also I had a problem with not being able to converse with another moderator who appeared. SO, my idea is to advertise on the server which moderator is policing the server so we know who to complain to - or about.

Might not be possible with the way moderation currently works. Or developers intentionally didn't implement this to prevent mods getting swarmed with players from all other servers. Although I definitely like the idea.

P.S. Please make sure your title always relates to the topic. No need for "cliffhanger" titles just to get people to see your topic.

When moderators are working on the servers, they prefer to be anonymous. If you then have a complaint about a moderator banning (this means it's a chat mod) you can contact a chat admin and they will sort out any issue.

There could be a system added where when a mod goes online, they mark the server that they are on and players would be able to go on the game's main page and see the mods' nicknames and their server. If the moderator wants to be anonymous they just need to not label their server.

I'm no expert in coding, but I don't think it would be that hard to just make an interactive table on the first page which allows mods to manually insert their name on a server number for everyone to see.

I think what he is getting at is just knowing that a mod is online, not necessarily knowing who. Because there have plenty of times when I have tried to report someone, but no mod was online, so they could not get banned. This then forces me to go through the painful process of reporting somebody in the forum. I think just knowing one is online, even if incognito, would be nice.

I don't understand what kind of anonimity a mod would prefer. Why should players don't know whot to refer to when in need?

Unless you mean that if players don't know who the mods are, they won't be able to "see" them and thus mods could observe unnoticed. Well, that's reasonable, but in this case a link to the "Mod in service" would sufice. Without a name, just a "bell" to ring.

Speaking only for myself I often (but not always) like to maintain a low profile when monitoring servers for chat violators.  As soon as players see me chat on a server they notice the chat mod icon and I get flooded with questions and players who just want to chat with a mod.  90% of the questions have nothing to do with mod work.  10% of the questions actually need help.

When I try to focus on those 10% the other 90% start asking things like "are you going to answer me?",  "answer me!!!!",  "you are a bad mod because you don't answer me", etc.  It doesn't seem to matter to them that they can see me responding to players as quickly as I can.  Also, many of the questions asked of me need a link to the forum and/or Tanki help pages that require me to go to the forum or help pages and I am no longer looking at chat and the questions and comments that are rolling in at me.

When I get back to chat more players are upset I haven't responded to them.  And while doing this I'm supposed to be reading every comment made in chat looking for swearing or other crude references.  Players may see I missed someone swear and they wonder why the chat mod isn't doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Nearly all of the players who need help could help themselves if they were to read Tanki's help page for a couple of minutes.

For the players who just want to chat -- sorry, I'm busy trying to do my job.

For players that have a mult in their battle, a saboteur, or a hacker in their battle (jump, no reload, etc.), sorry -- those aren't the responsibilities of the chat mods.  Those problems need to be reported to the staff group Game_Violators.  The only way to get a hold of them is the /vote command.  Unfortunately the Game_Violators group can't get to every battle where someone has been voted but this is a whole new topic within itself that I'm not involved in.

Advertise on the server which chat mod is there?  No.  Bad idea for reasons I've already mentioned.

If you want to complain about a chat mod send a PM in the forum to a chat admin.  Ostrica or Shar0n

That's why the consultants should come back. Stupid quiestions are not for mods.

I have a certain chat moderator friend, that doesn't really like when I speak to him in the main chat, he always prefers Skype. And I can't blame him, there are many personal reasons I would want to be anonymous.

Also, aside from personal reasons, it's better for a mod to be anonymous (AKA unknown; or no one knowing he's watching) while moderating the chats. When a violator knows a mod is watching, he'll shush it, but when he doesn't, he'll act as if there were no one watching (obviously), thus, violating the rules. Get what I'm saying?

I disagree with your idea, sorry.

So, you want people to violate? Isn't it better if they shush because of fear of a mod watching? Isn't it better to prevent them from violating rather than have them face the punishment for it?

At first glance, most people would see it that way. But think a bit deeper and you'll get it. A violator will violate (duh), so let's say he knows the mod's there, he'll shush up. But that doesn't make him be quiet forever, if he knows the mod is watching, he'll shush it, but only until the mod leaves. So it's better for the mod to stay quiet, then, when the violator breaks the rule, he faces the consequences.

There's another game that I used to play, when moderator comes online, it announces to everyone that there's a moderator online. And there was a special chat channel dedicated for talking with mods only.

That's what we're doing with our system of comments, chatting with players and official warns. But we can do that only up to a point, it's really up to a player if he'll get the hints and get acquainted with the rules, or not.

So it's better for the mod to stay quiet, then, when the violator breaks the rule, he faces the consequences.

We're not here to chase bans nor to be punishers. We can and will try to prevent offences and educate the players, but we're not police, nor teachers, nor parents of the players. We can do only as much.

Lol...

The Russians wanted us to combine chat mods and consultants because that is what they did.  I would like to see the consultant position opened up again but it isn't my choice to make.

Yeah I would've wanted the Consultant position to be back in action, that was my first position ever in TO and I loved it. Mod... not so much.

I agree what @GhostRider750 said

I am not spending much time at Chat lately, maybe 30 minutes a week at most. But from what I see there and what I saw earlier, it is better that moderators are more "silent". For a better overview and more efficient maintenance of order at chat, otherwise they can be flooded with questions that do not make sense. In most cases that questions and comments really do not make any sense.

I know that the moderators and administrators are always ready to assist players in Chat (also here in Forum). But if their screen is bright green from questions that do not make sense, then it is hard to see those who really need assistance. Yet they are people, not machines.

And one more thing. Administrators and moderators should be seen as fellow players, not some bogeymans who only give penalties.

If you want to report a hacker, use the Game Violations section. That is the official way to report game violations and the way that properly documents complaints in the forum.

Some mods on the chat just go nuts.

They ban everything

31469043.jpg

What mods are banning everything? I haven't seen any mods banning everything, where are your examples? Where is a player who was violating the rules but didn't get banned? Which is it? Mods ban everything or they don't ban anything, because you are saying both, but they both can't be true. We have rules in this Game, those who break them are dealt with, and you haven't given a single example of mods not dealing with something, or, alternatively, banning too much. At this point I don't really know what your goal is, but you appear to just be trolling.

So, you want people to violate? Isn't it better if they shush because of fear of a mod watching? Isn't it better to prevent them from violating rather than have them face the punishment for it?

Again, where is an example of someone violating the rules that wasn't dealt with promptly?
