It is obvious that this so called "update" is just more fuel on the fire of dissent that TO seems to love. This is an invasion of privacy of the highest order. No one was asked by a poll or a vote how they felt about this ahead of time. It's obvious, just from the replies that I have been reading that this will raise the player to player bully level another notch. There is no reason to publicly show what each has in their garages. It doesn't even have that much to do with what's in it. It's just that it was done suddenly and now people who don't want to share this have no choice. I know I certainly would never look at someone elses belongings. I wasn't raised that way. Before you start, please stop with the TO defending cry of "it's only a game." If it was only a game you hard core supporters wouldn't fight so hard about every little thing that opposes your views. Admit it, this is your drug. So stop putting down people who see through the smoke.

To kids, I'm sure they think it's great. Now they can think of new nasty names and put downs to throw out there.

I agree completely with the fact that people will be able to figure out who spends money by knowing time spent playing. Also...welcome hackers.. please pour yourself a drink and relax while you go through EVERYONE'S ownings.

If you listen to the people voicing their disagreement on this public viewing, you will hear that it's because they have spent a great deal of time and thought on what they have gathered. Why should they share it and who said it was ok to just open it all up like this. it's a shameful show of disrespect for the playerbase on a whole. As for me..I have gone back and forth a couple of times on leaving due to other issues that TO refuses to fix. I guess I will thank them now for pushing me to finally leave this mess.  I cannot stay in a place that randomly gives and takes whatever they want from their players and just expects them to follow meekly.  There is nothing here but anger, anxiety and foolish badly behaving children, but since TO lets that go unchecked, I guess we shouldn't be surprised by this occuring. Good luck to all ......peace

Hi guys,

I am writing this as a last message in the forum, as I am planning to leave the game. The recent update with the statistics has crossed all the red lines for me, privacy related. I do not feel comfortable with the entire world knowing how many hours I spend playing this game, nor do I wish other tankers knowing what exactly is going on with my account. This, together with all the other things I have opposed, like shutting down eSports, are the reasons why I am done with the game. It's the first time I am leaving and I am not coming back. There is no point. The game is dead. There is nothing left there for me to enjoy, and messing up with peoples' private lives, that's just too much for me.

I was the first one to come up front critizing the recent update, and apparrently the majority of the community disagreed with me. However just a few hours after this update being released, many people started realizing how bad it actually is.

I quote:

Anyway,

For everyone wondering why I am not in your friends' list anymore. I emptied my entire list. Friends are the reason why I come to play this game. However, there is no way in hell I am playing this game when I know all these stats about everything I do will later be available to the public. I decided to remove everyone from my list, so you do not wonder why I am always offline. I am simply gone. I am not there.

Thank you very much for the fun times.

I returned back to the game after a week of absence only to see the mess generated by the new update. It's good I was on holiday so i am kind of off the gaming addiction to be honest, so I can just leave as well. Or at least until they decide to remove the stupid "hours played" from your profile.

I would like the developers to explain to us why we can not view their profile, while we can view pretty much every normal user's profile. For example:

@amelin

@arts80

@Anton Volkov

@vitaly

@denton

@dragonfly

What do you guys have to hide? Why did you want to restrict your data from the public view, and let everyone else out there in the open without asking first?

True discrimination.

More accurately worded as a "double standard".

If you say our info is not personal, then you should not hide for yourselves what you claim is not personal for us ;)

Yes? And the hours played? It means the hours your person is sitting in front of a computer. And an over-equipped garage? It shows that somebody is using money on a game. Why is everybody forced to show what he/she doesn't wanna show?

This is not a violation of player's privacy, this is a violation of people's privacy, because remember that there are people behind those shooting tanks and people use their real time on this game.

I don't mind about showing my stats and my garage. But this is not only about me, it's about everyone and everyone MUST have the option to show or hide their personal stats FREELY.

Yep, total hours played could be over the past 4 years or the past 4 months. An over-equipped garage does means that the player either bought it, won it in competitions or is incredibly skilful and won many matches.

Players' and peoples' privacy is the same thing. Tanki is still not violating their privacy.

Just to give you some examples about how stats, total time played and other information is freely shared in other games:

ld9xTd3.png

Recent activity, total time played on certain games (all game names are hidden to avoid any conflict with mods)

FwKIwjB.pngeHQB19o.png

In this game you can rank everyone and see all the weapons that they use. It also shows their total hours played and significantly more information than what Tanki is releasing.

So please, do not complain when other games have been doing this for ages. What difference does it make knowing that your opponent has a better garage than you? Teamwork plays a bigger role when winning in matches.

Note: I think this is right but correct me if I am wrong.

Semyon, along with most of the devs, can basically add and remove their XP and crystals. Semyon wanted to rank up slowly without any boosts, so that he could interact with the lower ranked community. (I believe Bruce Lunga went straight to Marshal). Therefore they can have whatever they want in their garage, so if people saw items that cannot be found normally, they would complain.

the statistics should be used to show off someone's skills in the game, and not to show off how little life they have, by spending over 100 hours in the game.

What else is the hours spent proving?

You can always put a ranking of the most used equipment by the tanker, without also including the total amount of hours spent playing with that equipment. It is useless, unnecessary and can only create problems if someone finds out that you spend too much time in the game.

I find it funny how they also include a share to facebook feature, sure I will share all my statistics, only to get the "get a life" comments after everyone sees how much time I spend playing this game.

You are missing the point basically. No one is against the statistics, but we are against too much exposure of the community to the public, in a negative way.

When we do something we love, we don't keep a timer. We just do it.

So please, either remove the hours spent playing the game, or let us hide our profiles if we want to.

Not everyone here is a child, there are people with families, jobs.

Please stop exposing us in such a negative way.

THAT is a proper stat page. There you have stat data displayed properly, so that one can easily transform them into knowledge.

except there is positive knowledge and negative knowledge

If you think spending a lot of time playing a game means having no life then please, just leave.

A time counter is not a new feature in games. If it "creates problems" ie. your Facebook friends tell you to "get a life" then either they aren't good friends or you need to consider your gaming pattern or time.

I really don't see what is wrong with people knowing I have spent a certain amount of time using a weapon. I am pretty sure the high ranking clan members will spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours playing. Are they told to get a life? No, they are the respected players who win real prize money and are envied by others.

The only thing you are whining about is the fact that people will know how long you have been playing Tanki. As if being a generalissimo doesn't already suggest you have been playing Tanki for a long time. What do you want to do now, remove ranks?

Yes, people with families and jobs can play Tanki. Maybe they are mature enough to have a time counter and not complain about the "invasion of their privacy."

Good. So now someone will know what main gun I use. Unless they are prepared to spend ages finding a tactic or weapon to counter the possible chance that I will use it in a battle, it doesn't really help. Life well spent. Edited by MusicJam19

Everyone uses time one way or another to schedule their daily lives. No we should not remove ranks, because no one except the people in this game use them, which is completely fine. Time however as I said, is completely different, which is why I do not want people outside this game to know how much time I spend on it.

Your future boss will not care if you are a generalissimo on tanki online, but he will care if he sees that you spend several hours a day playing this game.

If you can't see the difference, and how that can create unnecessary problems in your real life, then that's your problem. Like someone said before, and I quote:

Of course he will care. Being an ex-commentator for Tanki along with other jobs is so bad isn't it? The fact that I play a game several hours a day does not matter to my boss, as long as I am working when I should be.

Who would be scared that their future boss might access their gaming profiles and see that they are playing a game? "Oh no, I have just checked online and saw that you have played a game for 200 hours. So even though you have determination, persistence and motivation, I am firing you."

I am defending a game because I agree with them, and I am entitled to an opinion just like you are. Accept change, it may be for the best.

What you said it's an event that (for what it looks hard to believe) can happen. The fact that somebody can check how you spend your private time is a lack on the privacy. Can you get it?

I reckon ratings are reset weekly, so everybody can check how many hours I play weekly: my boss can, my teacher can, my parents can, my girlfriend can... everybody can!

Doesn't matter how hard is to get the amount of hours played on average per day or how many calculation they have to do to get it, the fact is that IT'S POSSIBLE to get those private data. And I want to choose if letting them do it or not, I don't wanna be forced ro do it, cause nobody asked me anything!

Now you explain me why mods and devs have hidden their stats. Obviously they hide something that we aren't allowed to see. But why do they have the choice and we don't?

he doesn't get it.

Devs/Admins don't get it either. No prior warnings/discussions/polls. Nothing. It's very sad how they treat the community.

I don't see what's wrong. You are playing a PUBLIC game on the internet, where basically everything can be made public. Take the TalkTalk hackings for example, where ACTUAL PRIVATE INFORMATION, not something as meaningless as the total game time, was stolen. Follow a basic concept - whatever you write or whatever you do online can be revealed to anyone. Simple.

so because others reveal private information to the public, you don't see what's wrong by doing the same here? And we are not even talking about someone hacking private information, we are talking about the same people who are legally holding your data, making it available to the public without your consent.

Yes I play a public game on the internet, just like I go to public pubs, restaurants etc. No public pub will have a monitor displaying how many beers you have consumed throughout your entire life, how much time you have spent in the pub etcetera. Why? Because no one wants their private lives to be monitored. They just want to enjoy the damn beer, they simply want to get away.

If the total game time is meaningless to you, then I don't see what you are doing in this thread to be honest. We provided enough evidence as to why it could be meaningful to a lot of people, so what exactly are you trying to prove here? You don't care, we get it. Some people do. And both you and tanki online should respect that.

At least what we want is a final word from the administration.  Because NO one from the administration wants to clear things out. As you can see in my profile, I haven't played at all because I am waiting for a definite answer. Are they planning to leave the system as is, are they planning to remove the hours spent playing the game, or give us the opportunity to hide the profile?

Just answer. If you do not care, we will just leave the game. End of story.

Please don't force us to display the newest equipments in rating page.

That system make the game less fun.

In 1 on 1 or some small battle with friends, thinking about "what equipments my opponent will use?" is one of the most interesting part.

That system completely ruined such playing style. :( :( :(
