Test you keyboard's ghosting!

Recommended Posts

Getting a filco majestouch 2 cherry MX brown in mail any day now.

Seems like a very nice keyboard, enjoy!

Your keyboard has True N-key rollover, which means that on a green/purple PS/2 port (old but still the best port because it 's dedicated)

every simultaneously keystroke is recognized (simply put: zero ghosting).

On USB it will have at least 6 N-key rollover which also means that in reality that you will never experience keyboard ghosting,

because it will register 6 simultaneous keystrokes.

Always look for this N-key rollover/ anti-ghosting on a keyboard!

Ya, did tons of research on this expensive investment!

I will have to use USB, but I'm fine with the 6 key roll over it offers. Prob never hit more an 4.

Have u ever used this, or know someone who has?

What's ur favourite color of Cherry MX keys?

I also use USB, like most do. The 6 N-key rollover is already a bit of overkill indeed:

when do you give 6 commands at the same time? Still it 's good to have it

so you never experience ghosting.

My previous keyboard was a pretty good Logitech (membrane) that I broke because

with certain keycombo 's my turret wouldn 't react well, to "fix" this I slammed that key all the time,

till one day the turret responded even worse...broke that key.

No, I don 't know anyone else that uses it, but the reviews are very good which counts more.

My favourite colour is brown. Brown MX keys are nicely positioned between the red and blue keys.

Cherry MX Red switches were introduced in 2008 and are the most recent switch to be developed by the company. They have a low actuation force, at 45 cN – tied with Brown for the lowest of the four most common switches. Red switches have been marketed as a gaming switch, with the light weighting allowing for more rapid actuation, and have become increasingly common in gaming keyboards.

Tactile, non-clicky switches

Tactile switches provide, as the name suggests, additional tactile feedback as the key actuates. As you press the key down, there is a noticeable bump which lets you know that your key press has been registered.

Brown.gifThe most popular type of tactile, non-clicky switch is the Cherry MX Brown. This switch was introduced in 1994 as a special ‘ergo soft’ switch, but quickly became one of the most popular switches. Today, the majority of Filco keyboards are sold with Brown switches, as the switch is a good middle-of-the-road option appropriate for both typing and gaming. They are also ideal for typing in office environments, where a clicky switch might annoy some.

Tactile, clicky switches

Clicky switches add a deliberately louder ‘click’ sound to the existing tactile bump, allowing for greater typing feedback. This makes it easier to know that you’ve hit the activation point. This is achieved by a more complicated mechanism, with a blue plunger and a white slider. When the actuation point is reached, the slider is propelled to the bottom of the switch and the click noise is produced.

Blue.gif

The Cherry MX Blue is the most common clicky switch, and was first made available in Filco keyboards in 2007. Blue switches are favoured by typists due to their tactile bump and audible click, but can be less suitable for gaming as the weighting is relatively high – 50 cN – and it is a bit harder to double tap, as the release point is above the actuation point. Blue switches are noticeably louder than other mechanical switches, which are already louder than rubber domes, so these switches can be a bit disruptive in close working conditions.

edit: another advantage of a good gaming keyboard is that you can make profiles.

In a profile (my keyboard can make 5 profiles) you can change keys to have another function

and use that during a game.

I 've just changed the ?/ key on my keyboard into 5, so now in theory it 's much easier to drop a mine.

(turret keys < and > and next to them now it 's another 5)

Much better than the hard to reach 5 from out of the WASD keys.

But wow the effect of changing just one single key:

you already really need some serious brain-rewiring time...

For the Tankers who have decided or maybe will decide to get themselves

a new keyboard if they experience hindering ghosting issues:

hopefully it 's a programmable keyboard that can make profiles...

Recently, I 've made a post about laying mines and how to use

them very fast and at the right time in 1 vs 1 situations.

Which is crucial if you want to be successful with this very effective trick.
