A guide to Shaft

Recommended Posts

Welcome back, please, wipe your feet and take off your coat.

This guide we will discuss the use of Shaft, an old favorite of mine.

Some things to consider before purchasing Shaft: Do you enjoy being mocked and pushed around?

Do you enjoy being seen as a noob by those you kill? Do you enjoy staying in one place?

If any of these things apply to you, this turret will be your holy grail.

Basic idea: Stay in one place and fire at weak or key targets. Occasionally move around to reposition.

Let go of your inhibitions and worries.

Also remember SAD. Screw About and Die.

For one, never get anywhere near the enemy base. That is your most vulnerable position, but can be rewarding if they are complete noobs or just outnumbered and preoccupied.

Secondly, don't try firing while at close range with heavy hulls.

As a final note, the laser can be used for signals when playing with friends. My friends and I set up a system for attack signaling by hiding the leaser behind a pole or similar object and flashing it a few times based on the message.

This will not really work in basic team matches because of a lack of common knowledge of what the signals mean.

I would recommend having skype to communicate with your friends.

As far as paints go, Freeze protection is your best friend.

Though it won't do much, you have enough time to type out "FREEZE IN THE BASE, HELP!" before your untimely demise.

For combos, heavy hulls are recommended but not forced. I find Hornet to be a fine hull, quick enough to reposition while under fire and small enough to be hard to spot.

Here I will discuss them based on personal experience:

Wasp-Shaft: Perfect for nothing, it has no real use other than a distraction.

Hornet-Shaft: While still prone to flipping, this one will let you survive and reposition after firing.

I would NOT recommend it for duels with enemy Shafts. You die in one fully-charged shot, or partially based on how upgraded the Shaft is.

Hunter-Shaft: Much like with Vulcan this is a fine starter combo, get used to it and if you feel like it's too slow, go for Wasp. If it's too weak go for Titan or Mammoth.

Viking-Shaft: Equilibrium.

Dictator-Shaft: I feel like this one is underrated, it works fine but you have to employ the "peek out" technique.

Titan-Shaft: This is a lukewarm combo, it serves a few purposes. You could always camp, but I found this to be a fine supporter, should you have a spare Isida willing to follow you.

Mammoth-Shaft: You are a turret mount. 'Nuff said.

Having little experience in hiding the laser, I cannot help you there. But be sure to check out other guides, and don't solely rely upon me.

Hiding the laser? Don't hunt for a target while in Sniper Mode.

1. Just point the Shaft as best you can (like any other turret) at the target you have selected.

2. Then when you go into Sniper Mode, the target should already appear in the scope and have less than two seconds to react when final adjustment is made before you fire.

It's some "professional" thing that "pros" do.

Or you could just play the game like you normally do. Y'know, cover an area and zoom in when you see the enemy.

There is no right or wrong way to go about Shaft, just how often you like to die.

I hate shafts!!

You got inspired to make this guide by the Vulcan guide

The one I created or another one?

I took inspiration from the server shutting down for a server update and having nothing else to do.

Wasp + Shaft

Pop in, kill something fast from cover, run away to the other side of the map.

but before u reach the other side u get sniped best Hull for snipeing is Viking just enough health to survive a fully charged shaft unless it has DD yet still has a good amount of speed

for those who like shafts and being a sniper, the best map to use it on (that i have unlocked so far) is "Highways".

Not even close try.Brest. it was made for snipers seriously once u unlock it or if u already have try it #bestsnipermapever Edited by fordmustang12345

But only by skilled users. Seeing Wasp Shafts that do nothing but camp is agonizing to watch and ultimately pathetic.

Bro what is with the forum activity? XD

You've only spent a few hours actually PLAYING the game.

Im sure you've spent more time on forums than the game, and your main hull is an M0. LOL

Well allow me to fill you in: I gave up on that account.

Now I go to the lower ranks and offer assistance to those that need it.

This game is going downhill, I mostly stick to the forums to see what piece of crap update comes next.

I create these guides because it makes me feel like I've gained something from playing the game. In this case: Knowledge and tips for newcomers.

Also, my main hull is M0 because I don't buy crystals.

For all the newcomers I would recommend honing your skills on Highland first, then move to more open maps like Future and the like.

What about the Brest map? I think it is accessible at Sergeant, one rank after the M0 Shaft can be obtained.

All I'm saying is you'll have more competition there. But you're right.

Highland is easy to snipe in, it's perfect for new Shaft users who need practice. The red base has a total of three spots to give you a HUGE sweep of the area.

Ah, ok. Good point. I forgot this was a basic guide and it was keeping things simple. Sorry about that.
