Johnny Cash not Elvis Presley

Johnny Cash was a biblical character. He was like some old preacher, one of those dangerous old wild ones. He was like a hero you'd see in a Western. He was a giant. And he never lost that stature. I don't think we'll see anyone like him again. Of course, the first thing he'll be remembered for is the power and originality of his music...

A true legend of country and rock and roll music and legends never die, they just go into eternity...

The music Johnny Cash wrote and played sounded like no other. He was the only artist to be in the writers, country and rock hall of fames. He has recorded more than 1,500 songs and they can be found on about 500 albums, counting only American and European releases he has placed 48 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop charts, about the same number as the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys. He is one of the very few people in the history of music to sell more than 50 million records.

His first recordings at Sun, “Hey Porter” and “Cry Cry Cry,” were released in 1955

During his long career Johnny Cash was seen as a rebel, and a man who spoke for those who couldn't speak. "Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian" was an album about the troubles of native Americans. Johnny also played his music at many Prisons. In the 1970s he earned the name "Man in Black" because he usually performed in all black. He also got his outlaw image in the 1960s when he drank and did drugs very heavily. He continued to struggle with drugs all of his life but never used as much as before.

Johnny Cash had a longer career (1955–2003) than Elvis Presley (1954–77). Elvis indeed was more popular than Johnny, but popularity doesn't always mean you are better.

Success is having to worry about every damn thing in the world, except money - Johnny Cash

Ahh the country legend.

The man you would instantly recognize from his silhouet... Instantly.

This guy had an impressive lifestyle, and an awesome car collection :D

I really wish I was born in the 50’s to see him and many other legends at their prime.

Mr.Cash was actually a pretty poor guitarist, but that didn't matter.

It was all about that voice... Man that voice.

to say who is better no one really can cause they were good in there own fields ..sure anyone who got trained on a guitar can play the four notes over and over again..but it was the voice that set it a part

one was the deep male voice and the other was a sweet romantic one

either way girl like my self would and still fall head over hills for the amazing romantic voices..

and also they both were good looking for there style

Elvis had a beautiful voice, the girls loved him, and that can not be disputed.

But, Johnny Cash wrote more than 1500 songs, 99% of his songs. Unlike Elvis, who wrote just a few of his songs.

Also, Johnny Cash was special in every way, he did not adapted to anyone. Sometimes not even to his own fans. He did not adapted to anyone, unlike Elvis after his return at the scene.

Johnny was Johnny, regardless of trends, criticism and he never been ashamed of his peasant origin, simply he was what he really was. Without lies and without "masks". Man in black until his death.

Johnny Cash (born J.R. Cash, February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was a Grammy Award-winning American country singer and songwriter.

Cash is widely considered to be one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. Although primarily remembered as a country music icon, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of multiple induction in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.

Cash was known for his deep, distinctive voice, the boom-chick-a-boom or "freight train" sound of his backing band (Tennessee Two / Tennessee Three), his demeanor, and his dark clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". He traditionally started his concerts with the introduction "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash."

Johnny Cash was born J. R. Cash in Kingsland, Arkansas, United States, to Ray and Carrie Cash, and raised in Dyess, Arkansas. He was reportedly given the name "J. R." because his parents could not agree on a name, only on initials. Giving children initials-only names, or a first name and middle initial only, was a common practice at the time. When he enlisted in the United States Air Force, the military would not accept initials as his name, so he adopted John R. Cash as his legal name. Then when signing with Sun Records in 1955, he took Johnny Cash as his stage name. His friends and in-laws generally called him John, while his blood relatives often continued to call him by his birth name, J. R.

Cash was one of seven children: Reba Hancock, Jack, Joanne Cash-Yates, Tommy, Roy, and Louise Cash Garrett. His younger brother Tommy Cash also became a successful country artist. By age five, J.R. was working in the cotton fields, singing along with his family as they worked.

surprised i had no idea his birth name was on JR and later he had to change it...most Music people do have second names even actors and actresses ..to hid there past ..most have had bad family life and want to run from it...

he embraced his life making songs from it cool//i know others have also but most musicians now a days don`t make there music they buy it from others and fly on there coat tails
