Extended respawn option in battle settings

In Tanki's ESports server, tanks take longer to respawn after being destroyed. This makes gameplay more complex and interesting, since destroying other tanks and avoiding being destroyed become more significant. It forces players to be deliberate and tactical in all their maneuvers, instead of spawning, shooting, dying, and respawning a few seconds later. Also, the extended respawns cause tank corpses to stay on the battlefield much longer, which adds another layer of complexity to the game.

 

It's true that many tankers aren't involved in the competitive, tactical side of the game, and prefer being able to get back into the battle only a few seconds after their tank is destroyed. But the recent surge in popularity of XP/BP battles shows that there is an increasingly large community of tankers interested in and inspired by the complexity of high-level gameplay. Adding an extended respawn option to PRO battles would add even more depth to high-level gameplay, which would help this community of tactical tankers thrive and grow. In turn, Tanki's ESports scene would become bigger and more competitive. And as games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike, and Dota have shown, growth in ESports is the key to the growth of a game. So, not only would extended respawns make high-level gameplay more interesting, it would also help Tanki continue to grow and evolve.

 

 

 

And nubs would get more time to cry after being killed  B)

I think it is a good idea, although I would change it to make it fit ESports physics as well seeing as it is easier to flip there as well, and I would also make corpses stay for longer, otherwise great idea marc :)

Yeah, Good Idea.

I would like to see this implemented although I doubt many people would play using it due to raging at the already annoying corpses :P

 

I can just imagine a Hornet Fire with this and no one can get to the gold as all the corpses are stuck around it

Good point, corpses can be pretty pesky which is why extended respawns would need to be an option (as opposed to being mandatory). That said, corpses can be strategically used for blocking, which would become a more significant part of the game with extended respawns. Also, they can make navigating the map and getting to flags more interesting.

Nice idea for an addition to the variety of variable options for Pro battles, but one could argue that this will make battles less fun as you will spend more time re-spawning and less time playing. Battles could go from nail-biting slug-fests to tedious waiting games.

For anyone thinking that it will turn the battle into some kind of camping/waiting game, I would suggest watching some old star ladder streams. It enhances gameplay rather than diminishing it, and actually makes the battle more dynamic. 

You see, it does not make respawns significantly longer, it only increases them by about ten seconds. 

And, after all, it is an optional feature. So, if you really don't want to play with this mode, you don't have to.

So what.

 

Friendly Fire makes battles suck as well but no one complains about that feature.

Like clutchswagsniper said its a option, if people think its boring then they wont use it.

Longer respawns absolutely would slow down gameplay, and Tanki is all about fast-paced, in-and-out gameplay. But at higher levels, slower gameplay often tends to be more interesting since it requires more awareness and more deliberate maneuvers, and slower games are also often more team-based.

 

That's why at high levels, matches are often a lot smaller than low/mid level matches; smaller matches have slower gameplay. Many XP/BP matches, for example, have just 2-4 players on each team, whereas low/mid level matches typically have 8-12 players on each side (unless they're being played on a small map). Bigger XP/BP matches often become less tactical and more run-around-and-shoot.

 

So, extended respawns would allow bigger XP/BP matches (with 5-8 players on each team) to retain a slower, more tactical gameplay. I don't think it would be a good idea to enable extended respawns in small XP/BP matches (with 2-3 players per team), since gameplay in those games is already at a good pace.

The good thing is if tanks takes longer to re-spawn and stay as a ghost for a few seconds more, it will give the time for other players go drop mines under your hull, so that you immediately explode when re-spawning.

 

The use of mines would become more frequent and there would be much less mines to waste. Mines could become, somehow, a quick and easy replacement of a turret in such situations for an extended but short period of time.

Only if you remain in same spot. The mines don't follow you (like in Tanki-X).

 

One assumes the re-spawning tanker uses the "extra time" to get out of the kill-zones...
