TOP 5 Underrated Paints

Ateliers of  Tanki creative department provided us with impressive range of artistic paints, that profuse of not just beauteous looks but especially required protections. Great number of  them became exerted in particular battles, while  others keep collecting dust in garage and await a tanker that will pick them up from imaginary shelf.

The list below is composed of five paints that burst with decent protections, but players consider them insufficient for battle usage.

Criteria applied to the list are:

1.) Commonness in battles

2.) Exploitation

Starting right off the bat, the fifth place goes to:

                                                          Raccoon

                                                                               Coloring_Raccoon.png

This cute mammal based paint offers a really high protection from four common turrets. Raccoon isn´t the rarest on the battlefields, but you will most likely meet other more specialized paints around Field marshal. What makes Raccoon unique is versatility. At the same time this paint defends the tanker from three range types (close, medium, long). While Hammer/Vulcan combination can be found on numerous paints, oddness is embodied in Railgun/Isida mix.

It looks a bit pointless to carry a protection from very different turrets like aforementioned two, but don´t  forget that Railgun outshines other turrets in popularity and is present in almost every battle. This can also be  applied to very useful Isida supports that are necessitated by many players. Raccoon deserves some appreciation, mainly in medium and big maps.

Moving on, the fourth place is occupied by:

                                                           Hohloma

                                                                                Coloring_hohloma.png

I think we can agree on the fact that this is probably not the best paint for Majors. The natural counterparts of Smoky, Freeze and Ricochet namely Thunder, Firebird and Twins are widely distributed in battles. Hohloma would do far better on higher ranks, where the turret composition drastically changes.

Still, you can find battles like Noise, Sandbox or Silence where the protection offered by Hohloma can be put to good use. Smoky and Ricochet are huge fast-firing threats that should not be underestimated by any tanker, plus Freeze protection can save you from slug mode that this turret utilizes.

This charming paint possess very balanced defensive  parameters and with increased protection after investing into the micro-upgrades provides a great coverage even on higher ranks.

Paint that reached the bronze pedestal is:

                                                              Jade

                                                                              Coloring_nefrit.png

Jade received a boost in form of added Hammer protection though in public eye it did not rise to position of valuable paint. When you first look on the percentage you will be disappointed by the numbers in some columns. Truly, Jade  is focused on perfect Shaft defense but lacks high enough numbers for Thunder and Hammer.  Moreover, it is loosing in the fight for glory to more popular  long-range oriented sis Prodigy.

Jade is not the epitome of perfection ( misses perceptible Railgun protection),  but rare combo of  Thunder/Smoky defense can´t be found on any other paint ( if we don´t count special paints and  8% Smoky on Cedar).  That can be useful,  players often  use the alternation from Smoky to Thunder or opposite way.

Now, set your eyes on max MUs. With them,  Jade will eat ¼ of Thunder and Hammer damage points and ½ Smoky and Shaft destructive hits, making even your fragile Hornet chunkier.  This paint still have a potential to be good.

We are climbing higher to the top, silver  medal is hanging on fictitious neck of:

                                                              Graffiti

                                                        Coloring_Graffiti.png

Ohh Graffiti, we fell in love with your street art, but ended up brokenhearted. The initial glance at your safety merits disappointed us a bit. Though,  when I am auditing this paint further, there is a purpose in equipping it. Having Twins and Vulcan protection is almost a must on higher ranks. Although, like most of the list, even Graffiti is to some degree blocked by one generalissimo-level paint.

Indeed for Vulcan/Twins protection, you will in the first instance choose Africa, but as I forgot to mention in Jade rant – don´t belittle Shaft´s possibilities. Shaft might not be popularized as other turrets, but that is actually what makes it even stronger, so think twice and don´t lean upon laser scope to save you.

Graffiti can be very handy for quick offensive tanker for bypassing Twins and Vulcans on heavy hulls as well as lurking Shafts that often form the defensive core of enemy base.

I presented you four paints, but there is still one place left. I did not have the pleasure myself to meet many players with this paint on their tanks. The winner, the absolute number 1 is:

                                                          Blacksmith

                                                                                  Coloring_Blacksmith.png

Not that surprising, or is it? If it wasn´t for Vesuvius  kit,  some would already forget about its existence.  I can count on my fingers how many times I encountered it.

Blacksmith is rarely used, strangely enough the protections are not half  bad. Yes, if  you don´t fall under the category of „ big maps only“ player, not to mention the fact that Vulcan and Shaft are missing in many battles around that rank, you won ´t find much use in this paint.

But, in Monte Carlo or Lost Temple and other big maps like that, only three weapons  don´t  loose on power with increased distance. Guess what paint will protect you from them. Put it on a bulky sniping camper and sap the maximum from this paint.

Phew....

We made it to the finish line of this opinion based article. Did you doze off? Well, hopefully you did not smashed the keyboard with head while being asleep. I would not forgive myself, if something happened to your beloved keyboard ... or head.

Last thing guys. If you own one of the paints mentioned, share your impression of them, be a little “Mythbuster“ and expose your battle experience wearing those paints or even write your list in comments below.

This thread got me thinking - wondering if the single-protection paints have some extra hidden protection against another or two. A while back I ran into a WO5 set up with Isida-Viking-Lead. My M1 Railgun was upgraded to M2 stock before this encounter. I was unable to kill this Viking with 3 shots and he did not even repair in between shots - nor did he have DP activated or attacking any of my teammates for self-healing. This happened 3 times in the same battle (one I tried with DD and nothing), so I was wondering what gives.

I did not see it much in battles, but you know, every player has different experience :)

Most often the case of people having Graffiti is from vandal kit. With hive, it is refrigerator. Both are common in the pro style battles on ru2 that have no drugs drops or upgrades on. And vulcan does loose damage over range I am pretty sure.

Are you insane?

The most underrated paint is the black and white paint known as Holiday paint :3

it is so unique and useful that it can be used in all battles and it is not discriminating against anyone unlike black or white paint :(

I thought that was Orange paint....

Seen it twice used in a battle as far as I can remember.

BTW quite a lot of low rankers do use Holiday. :P

what about Coloring_winter.pngAtom_preview.pngand Coloring_picasso.png?

Coloring_clay.pngis also rare

Frost_paint.pngis ultra-rare. This is permanent if you were lucky enough to buy it - much better than what Premium paint has to offer.

Frost is 20% vs all turrets + mines.
