[Issue 45] Surviving as a Pocket Isida

As any experienced player can attest, the tanker’s career is one in which his role is always changing. In some battles, the tanker is a man by himself, firing away at every other tank on the field, trying to stay on top of the leaderboard. In others, the tanker is a flag runner, darting and diving to bring the enemies’ flag home.

Of the many different roles that a tanker can choose for himself, the most unpopular role is that of the Pocket Isida. A Pocket Isida is a tank with an Isida turret whose solitary purpose is healing one specific teammate. Rarely does he kill any enemies, and he never captures flags. He is a support vehicle and nothing more.

For this reason, most players will shun the idea of regularly filling the role of a Pocket Isida. The job can be boring and unprofitable, as a player could battle for hours and not earn nearly as many crystals as he could if he led the fight and captured stuff.

Having played as a Pocket Isida myself in recent battles, I can now say that the role is not as bad as it seems. In fact, if you play smart, you can actually top the leaderboards and rake in the crystals. Here’s how:

1.) Don’t focus on just one player.

Pocket Isidas commonly camp next to a Mammoth Vulcan or draft a TDM leader. This will certainly help the player who’s being healed, but the Isida will not get much in return.

When you snap that Isida turret onto your hull, zap everyone you pass. Teammates, enemies, pedestrians, zebras, EVERYONE should get a jolt from your laser beam. In doing so, even for half a second at a time, you will be storing points. If you zap an enemy, you will get points for a kill assist, if not a total kill. If you zap a damaged teammate, you will receive at least a few points for healing.

But, while you are spraying Isida fire left and right:

2.) Do give special attention to the leader of your team.

The leader of your team achieved that position because he is generating lots and lots of points. Therefore, he is likely going to be in the heat of battle and will need healing frequently. Just be sure to touch up the other players as you are tending to him.

3.) Play at big CTFs like Kungur and Serpuhov.

Capture the Flag battles are the best battles for Pocket Isidas because they are the ones in which the most points are earned. They have also always tended to accumulate higher battlefunds than the other modes. Visit bigger maps with larger teams because more tanks to zap means more points for you.

4.) Drop mines constantly.

Lay another mine as soon as your cooldown allows. You will get at least a kill assist for every enemy that drives over your mine.

* * * * * * * *

There you have it, folks. Short and sweet article, I know, but that's because being the Pocket Isida is a simple matter. All that is necessary to make it work is for you to give it your best effort.

to 1st and 4th, thanks to tanki's system, if the guy who got damaged but not killed by you does not die in 10-20 seconds, you won't get a single point.

2nd is fine.

3rd... Bigger maps are the best for smokies and other long-ranged turrets.

Are you serious? No good reporter on Earth praises his own article...

Short and sweet is more of a figure of speech.

Its not like he said "That's it, folks. An interestingly short but very useful article."

I always forget that you are writing for low-ranked guys....

The first members of the "Let's bash anything Stratus writes" club have come. You can't bear the thought of seeing him writing something good, so you come here with your petty excuses. Seriously, it's gotten a little old now. Anyway, I apologize for my rudeness, but please, just stop bashing Stratus already.

If I tell the truth, I have really admired this article. :) However, I don't wanna get wasp m2 now, neither I'm gonna play with m1. The font is perfect for me, but maybe some other people might have been having trouble.

I only see the 1st member of protect him whatever happens club.  I posted my opinion, even if he didn't ask for it, like all other reporters do.

And lukey, I didn't know about that figure of speech, so thanks.

Well I did like this article, but just change the font size please? It sort of hurts my eyes reading it.

Do you need the font larger or smaller?

I was going to suggest the same thing: font size. Please consider reducing it. I think the standard size for body text is 12... not sure.

Btw zebras... lol. Actually the zebra paint (safari) has isida protection so not always worth spending isida energy trying to kill them.

Really good sonofchrysalis, just 1 question:

Do you have a good idea about what hulls should be used in this role and/or how to use them? Thanks! Ur da best  ;)

The best hull to use depends entirely on the map. The bigger the map and the more spread out the tanks are, the smaller and faster the hull should be. On Island, therefore, a Pocket Isida would use a Mammoth hull.
