Alright before we begin, most of what I'll say here has been said before...

I will be using a part of Extra Credit's video, so please follow the link below to watch all of that. That's all, BIG thanks to them for bringing this up and addressing them. I hate to steal, but I can't really say anything without it just being the same thing.

Now then, I'm sure this has been brought up before many times, but I feel like I should bring up my take on it.

It's time to address the elephant in the room, the chat.

Now the chat is a great place, don't get me wrong, but it is being used in one of the WORST possible ways.

Here's the chat on a nice occasion when there aren't people being terrible.

But all it takes is one person to ruin it for everyone...

One. Person.

Now I hate to say that they're all just a bunch of wild kids, but they usually are.

Because the game lets them do what they never could to in the real world.

"But we all love the game and if the game is seen as bad then it will be removed/gotten rid of!" I hear someone saying.

Exactly. They're dooming themselves. One bored kid, or inconsiderate person, can ruin an entire game.

Now I won't go into WHY they do it, the answer I always get is a shrug and a "I dunno.", but I will address why it's bad for everyone.

"Well thanks for being so kind as to bring us back to kindergarten, Captain NicePants!" I hear the sarcastic reader remarking smugly.

Well, are you gonna do it? I find it kinda sad a bored fifteen-year-old kid has to write this.

 

Alright, let me cover something you should know by now: Being bad isn't nice.

Okay, here's why.

 

What happens to me when someone decides they want to be terrible for no reason? I regret being from this generation, everyone else sighs in disappointment and the air just gets colder...

It goes like this:

(Simulation, may or may not have happened.)

Me: Hey good game pal.

Other person: HEY (Extremely vulgar response)!

Me: Why did you do that? I did nothing wrong.

Other person: YOU CHEATING LITTLE DRUGGER I WANTED TO WIN THAT GAME! YOUR MOTHER IS A HAMSTER AND YOUR FATHER SMELLS OF ELDERBERRIES!

Me: Dude, chill, it's just a game.

Other person: NO ITS NOT NOW MY K/D IS GONNA GO DOWN AND MY DIAPER IS SOILED AND I AM GENERALLY FEELING EXTREME BUTTHURTEDNESS!
You get the point.

 

Now what does all of that solve? Now you've made someone else feel bad over your selfish desires that have-... (I hate to say no meaning because there are some awesome people in this game, but to be honest, they kind of don't. I'm sorry to everyone!)

 

Now I make no claim to innocence, and I will leer menacingly at anyone who does, but I'm never so angry that I do THAT. I usually say the H-word a little and move on to more meaningful things. But THAT!? That is Hannibal Lecter's very will spewed into a single message. Over a virtual game. A VIRTUAL game.

 

Now that we've delved into the game chat, let's talk about the lobby chat. (Or whatever it's called.)

This is the deepest pits of the great Netherworld, the slums, the hood, this is where bad things are just an occurrence.

Now I don't think the chat is meant to be this way, I don't think they intentionally let it devolve to it's neanderthal-like state. But they did. I've already stated my distaste for their need to find a perfect mod to hire, but the thing is, even if more mods are hired, things are already at rock bottom and chained to the ground.

 

Okay, let's discuss the amorphous mass that is the general chat.

...I don't know where to begin...

Okay, we'll start with why this is alarming and needs to be addressed.

These people are speaking in a way no adult, child, grandparent, or human being ever should. Because we let them.

They do things no human being should ever do.

I'm not sure how to post on here the things they say, so I'll just ask you to stop and look at it for a minute the next time you play.

Let me explain to you, basically, what the game lets them do:

It's an outlet for their darkest wills. Their deepest, most inner hatred can be used with this handy mask.

Nobody can stop them, nobody can catch them, but they can do it.

It's like giving a psychopath the ability to kill without ever leaving a single trace of evidence.

Now we could react normally and cry silently to ourselves at the hatred these people spew from their valve-like mouths, but usually, most of the time, I see people return the favor. Thus creating the endless cycle that fuels this problem.

Now let's see how Tanki has reacted to the issue.

...Hm...

I see, they've done jack-squat. While I hate to insult the staff, they haven't done much.

Ignoring the obvious limits a human has, they haven't tried making up for the limits.

They rely on the diamond in the rough, the people that can see the alarming state of the chat, and they pick those people from it. But here's the thing, remember the endless cycle we talked about? That's why it's impossible to actually deal with it this way, there's no diamonds to find. Everybody is as bad as everybody. Even I, in my facade of being a goody-two-shoes, have broken several rules in the past.

 

 

Now enough yelling the obvious out loud, let's discuss what we can do.

We can do absolutely nothing, in my opinion.

They reacted too slowly and now the game has reached rock-bottom.

We might be able to thrash around, but it will do nothing.

Now I understand this is a bit of a realist's view of it, and it's pessimistic, but I'm sorry.

My optimism on this subject is nil, I cannot foresee a good future for the chat.

 

In conclusion, the chat is bad. Feel free to close this if you are a mod, criticize this if you are a reader, and ignore this if you wish to retain your sanity. May Queen Gapulus bless your very existence.
