Server Regional Localization

Recommended Posts

Recently, I just continued playing TO, but the internet latency was too great. In fact, my ping reached 999ms for quite a number of times.

Many would say that it is my ISP or device that is at fault, but the geographical location of my country and the server is also a determining factor. Not to mention that the servers of TO are located at Europe... (Are they assuming that all of us are Europeans?)

DNS Servers of tankionline.com

195.253.65.2 Germany

195.253.64.10 Germany

217.65.2.35 Russian Federation

37.48.68.59 Netherlands

91.217 20.1 Russian Federation

91.217.21.1 Russian Federation

As you can see, the servers are indeed stuffed at Europe, making players like me from the SEA region suffer the horrible latency.

As such, Tanki Online should adopt the server localization system. Many huge and successful game titles such as LOL, DotA, World of Tanks and CS:GO are doing the same.

This idea should at least be applied to the Unity version of the game, unless they want their game community to consist of mainly Russians and Europeans. (And maybe some Middle Easterns)

When you get a Ping at that level, games are unplayable. Servers can be an issue. I know people who are regular with WoW and there are times the server they were using just wasn't working, so they tried other servers. There could also be ISP issues as well. Can't say as I have heard any complaints about the Service in your country. I know a friend in India who went to work for a U.S., company called Verizon over there. Don't know if it was in systems engineering or Customer Service, but am thinking it was on the Engineering end. Well, I have my service through STC ( Internet & TV + Landline; all on Fiber Optics ) I also have my Cell service with STC. There is probably a lot of traffic on the servers and it would be difficult for you. Would probably help to expand the servers.

Lots of South Asian players have a ping around 150-300, and its actually helping them. I live in Europe, my ping is always under 30 but losing to annoying lagger kids makes me damn angry. And they usually say hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh when anyone tells them they are laggers. So +1 to the idea, but sadly that would cost TO some money.

Whoa, how did you get the information on the server locations? Pretty awesome.

Anyway, I don't see how what you're proposing would help. If you put up a new server in America, it's going to have to communicate with the servers in Europe, right? And this will take just as long, or maybe longer, as having American players connect directly to a European server. The only way it would help is if players from America could only play with other Americans, but I don't think TO has a large enough audience for that.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

Can't. With the way the current game is, servers have to be in one place, which is why they were moved to The Netherlands. For example the Brazilian TO is a separate game, not connected to main tanki, as the servers are in Brazil.

I do have to agree that if the servers are localized, we will only be able to play with players of the same region, which will get boring overtime...

Btw, it seems that the DNS for tankix.com is very close to that of tankionline.com

TankiX.com.png

37.48.68.59 - Netherlands

217.65.2.35 - Russian Federation
