Results: Design A Contest

First off: You'll notice that, rather unusually, there is a poll attached to this contest. I decided to insert it so as to get a better handle on the communities' thoughts. Feel free to complete it, even if you didn't enter the contest. And of course, any feedback below is welcome. Thanks!

Moving on, I must admit myself to be fabulously surprised at the quality of entries received. You guys came up with some really nifty ideas, many of which, in my opinion, are good enough to be featured in the paper.

However, as you all know, there can be only three winners. So after much careful thought, I present the following top three entries:

In 1st place, winning 35,000 crystals:

Contest: Shaft Photography by

Shaft Photography

150px-Turret_shaft_m2_2.png

Greetings, tankers! The newspaper is here with a unique and quirky contest, and a new way to take photographs in Tanki Online. Yes, you read the contest title right - photography using the turret Shaft. Shaft's sniper mode is usually a great tool for causing destruction, but a few weeks back, I was amazed by the amount of customization it can have in use as a camera. Let me explain you the usage of sniper mode in taking beautiful pictures!

Procedure* -

  • Before starting off, make sure you are using Wasp and Shaft. Why Wasp? It helps you get into all kinds of positions and can fit in small spaces to photograph your subject.
  • Go into sniper mode. But how to remove the cross-hairs? No, you don't have to. Just make sure that none of your subject area is interfered into by them i.e. point the cross-hairs or the laser away from the target area.
  • Adjust the zoom by using the space bar. Once you are ready, take a screenshot and there you are, you just transformed your sniper scope into a camera!
  • Make sure you save both the non-cropped and cropped picture. You will need both to make your entry.
  • Upload your entry using photo-sharing websites like Imgur or Tinypic.

*Note - Participants are requested to read the rules thoroughly before making an entry.

Example of an entry -

Note- Do not forget to submit the image which has the Shaft cross-hairs AND your experience bar! You will get disqualified if you do not!

CqIhEvZ.png

**Thanks to @drazeruzumaki for posing for the picture

Advantages -

  •
  • You can zoom in our out as required. In a selfie you cannot do that. It is only possible in spectator mode, and somewhat using the new camera update.
  • Unlike "mode-less spectator" it does not require you to self-destruct and the subject to time his movements with high accuracy.
  • Taking candid battle pictures is generally a hard task unless you have spectator mode. You can be mistaken as a mult or even be removed from battle due to inactivity. But with Shaft, you can pretend that you are playing, and instead take pictures with scope mode.

Rules -

  •
  • Participants are allowed to MILDLY edit the pictures and (optional) add a small title. Editing and adding a title will not be considered in the quality of the entry.
  • Excessive editing might result in disqualification. Editing or title must not interfere too much with the subject of the picture.
  • Entries MUST have two pictures - 1) Picture including the shaft cross-hairs and experience bar, 2) Cropped and edited (opt) picture.
  • All entries must be sent to @LordZenith in a private message on forum. Entries through this thread or sent to any other account will NOT be considered.
  • Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. So is submitting entries through alternate accounts.
  • If more than one entry is submitted through one account, the last entry will be considered as your entry.
  • Entries will be judged on the basis of originality, quality and creativity imbued in the picture.
  • You are allowed to remove the name of any tank(s) in the picture if you want.
  • Pictures without any tanks will also be considered.

Prizes -

The prizes are as follows - 30,000 crystals for the winner, 20,000 for the first runner-up and 10,000 crystals for the second runner-up. A certain number of consolation prizes worth 5000 crystals will be given to worthy entries.

May the best entry win! Shake the dust off your Shaft and hone your photography skills in a new way!   :)

In 2nd place, winning 25,000 crystals:

Contest: Design a Valentine Mine! by @Lethal_Injection

 Inventory_mine.pngDesign a Valentine Mine!Inventory_mine.png

Hello Tankers! Here at Tanki, we take the holidays in stride! With Valentine's Day coming up, the goal of this competition is to create a design for a mine that incorporates a Valentine's theme. Show other tankers some love as you blow them up!

The Rules

  • The goal of this is to create a design for a mine that, instead of the usual boring green pattern, incorporates some Valentine's features into it.
  • No plagiarism! Plagiarized entries will not be accepted.
  • The art for your Valentine mine can be uploaded as a picture in any file format.
  • You can design the mine on any medium, be it a graphic design software or just a pencil on paper.
  • Your design must include color! Black and white entries will not be accepted.

The Prizes

  • First Place will receive 35,000 crystals in their account
  • Second Place will receive 20,000 crystals
  • Third Place will receive 10,000 crystals
  • Three Honorable Mentions will be chosen and they will receive 5,000 crystals each

The deadline for submissions will be February 12, 2016, UTC Time

In 3rd place, winning 15,000 crystals:

Contest: Guess The Drop! by @Flexoo

KnxVPcY.jpg

Freshly made issue of Newspapers is here to supply our dear readers with the whole bunch of interesting Tanki related articles. But as usual, there is something extra. A contest icing on top of the newspaper cake that will satisfy your crystal whims.

As you probably know, supplies are almost inseparable part of Tanki Online. They are subject of many discussions and while some tankers praise their usefulness others would love to put them six feet under.

One thing is certain. The knowledge of specific supply drop locations will come in handy right now!

Spoilers down below hide three pictures of random supply drops. These supply drops can either be Speed boostsRepair kitsDouble armours or Double damage boxes. Your assignment is quite easy. Simply put, you have to successfully guess what type of supply the pictures show. Of course, the drops are camouflaged and to uncover them you will firstly have to know the maps they come from.

First three tankers to uncover the drop identities will be rewarded with a juicy prize of 20 000 crystals.

Contest will be opened on 1st of February, 17:00 UTC +0.

Rules:

  1. Your entry must contain answers to all three pictures or it won´t be considered.
  2. All three answers must be correct to win the prize!
  3. If you think you made a mistake, you can re-enter, only your last entry will be considered.
  4. PMs regarding the contest will be ignored!
  5. Your answers must be sent via this form.

Pictures:

Picture No.2

Picture No.3

Once all three winners are known the contest will be closed.

Good luck with the quest!

Congratulations! As promised, the first and second place winners will be featured in Issue 48 of the Newspaper. I will be hosting and judging these contests, so the creators are more than welcome to submit an entry in their own contest. Please note that I reserve the right to edit and/or add to the rules, layout, deadlines, prizes, etc. of the featured contests as I deem necessary, without prior notice.

Even if @Lethal_Injection did win, he/she shouldn't have been placed #2. @Flexoo's entry is way much better than his/her.

* * * * *

#2 has no introduction, no formatting, basically a dull header, a dull heading picture - it isn't integrated into one, no proper rules and prizes. There are like a 100 grammar mistakes.

This is like a entry which doesn't really fit in within you judging statement. Because you clearly stated ~

'The task is to come up with a workable contest idea and then design a page for it, complete with an introduction, rules, and "prizes."

Entries will be judged on the originality of the contest idea and the effectiveness of the presentation. The very best will be featured in an upcoming issue of the paper'

Does this make any sense: 'Show other tankers some love as you blow them up!' ?

#2 Intro: -1, Rules -1, Prizes -1, heading pic? -1

It is original. I give you that, but you said it is gonna be judged. NOT chosen. No offense here, but it kinda looks like, instead of judging, you chose these entries.

'The goal of this is to create a design for a mine that, instead of the usual boring green pattern, incorporates some Valentine's features into it.'

This isn't a rule. It's an introduction. A goal. Tip, you might say... And neither is this:

'The art for your Valentine mine can be uploaded as a picture in any file format.'

Its a tip.

* * * * *

'Please note that I reserve the right to edit and/or add to the rules, layout, deadlines, prizes, etc. of the featured contests as I deem necessary, without prior notice.'

This line should practically have never existed. A contest entry should be perfect. And by that I do mean PERFECT. As if you just gonna copy it, some minor tweaks (grammar, spacing, typos etc) and then boom, hit the post button. I'll see when [Contest] Design A Valentine Mine comes out. Has the entry been edited heavily or not. (Skipping the white parts).

#3 On the other hand, has a perfect intro, prize pool and a clear statement to the Rules. #3 should have been #2 and vice versa.

* * * * *

Agreed with #1 100%. Epic xD

Bear in mind, that the above 'article' was BY NO MEANS an insult or an offense. Sorry, but sometimes, honest opinions DO matter. ;)

One can simply understand why @Flexoo 's entry was placed at #3. If it was placed at #2 or #1, the contest would not have featured in the next issue because it would be quite simple and useless. But the task was to come up with a quite new contest idea and his idea was very unique and well-written, therefore he got the 3rd position. The 1st position is also a very good choice, and deserves to be featured in the next issue of the paper. But, no offense, #2 is dull and not that good.

Experience is the best teacher.

For those who have never before hosted a contest, writing a "perfect one" as you say, would be fairly difficult. Even though this is only my second contest, I have very quickly learned that there are some things that need to be accounted for, not least limited to blatant plagiarism, reserving posts, the number of allowable entries, etc. The deadlines also need to be congruent with the paper's -and my- schedule. Because of this lack of experience, I knew that even the best contests would need to be tweaked to fit the paper, and to be of a quality worthwhile of the entrants.

'Please note that I reserve the right to edit and/or add to the rules, layout, deadlines, prizes, etc. of the featured contests as I deem necessary, without prior notice.'

And that is why this line was posted.

As for your other complaints... well, you said it yourself.

Entries will be judged on the originality of the contest idea and the effectiveness of the presentation. The very best will be featured in an upcoming issue of the paper'

Flexoo's entry was well crafted and interesting. This is why he won third place. However, there could be only two featured winners, and the ones I selected stand.

How come no consolations?

There were so many good, quality entries, had I started handing out consolations, I would have felt obligated to give at least six or seven...or eight...or nine. ^_^ So I opted to go for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd only.

Ohh believe me Manish, there were far easier and simpler contests featured in Newspapers. I guess you can call it simple, but I don´t think it was useless. I picked three pictures from very common maps, that is why it looks like easy task. If it featured pictures from rare maps that most players don´t even know they exist, the difficulty would increase exponentially.

DestroyerPdox,

Thank you for your opinion. I'll admit myself that, as my first ever contest I though that this was going to be a loser. But, hey, with crystals at stake, why not give it a try? I also saw many other entries that, if I were judging, would probably easily beat my own. I value criticism, and I strive to incorporate past criticism into future works. Congratulations to all the other winners!

Dear SIR,

With all respect, I do apologize for the strict critique. But, since it was your first contest maybe (design a contest, contest :P), I think you still did great. Good job.

PDoX.

Looking forward to your contest being published in the newspaper. You did an awesome job Zen, just like always ;)

Eh, the only entry I liked was the Valentine one. Flexxos was fine, but boring and almost the same as guess the map. The shaft photography id kinda stupid, I really dont see the point of taking a pic zoomed in. Also I cant do it because I have to click 3 different keys at the same time to take a screenshot and it doesnt work if im holding space too.

 Good job winners, and congrats!
