When the gold box warning goes off, it's often accompanied by a chorus of "no kill"s in battle chat. In my experience, few players seem to respect this supposed "no-kill during gold box drop" rule. On the other hand, I've had players complain bitterly if I shoot them during this most sensitive time.

So, I'm turning to you, my fellow Forum members, for your opinions and insights regarding this Tanki hot-potato.

Please respond to the poll, and comments are welcome.

T(h)anks,

LTC Zev_Merkava

(As of this writing I've grabbed a whopping total of eleven gold boxes. Go ahead, laugh. It's good for your health. :))

I usually find a perch and kill as many people as possible during the thirty seconds.

I must admit I used that technique to great effect when I got the "special" mission on 31 Oct 2015, and had to rack up 300 DM kills in one night (I don't like DM...).

This is mostly for the people who moderate/manage/edit the Forum -

I created a poll to go with this topic. Any idea where it went to?

Thanks

(I ended up re-writing the poll, and it seems to work, but I'd still like to know what happened to the original.)

Some kill but not normally, depends how weak your equipment it. If there is a M1 Wasp among M2 Titans obviously the Titans will kill it. one its an easy kill, two its one less who can steal the Gold.

Though killing during Gold is rare, just only kill if someone starts to kill you.

agreed, although the opposite is also true. if you have OP equipment, you are also a large target for getting killed during golds. (I know this from experience)

Not sure if you could call "no kill" an unspoken rule. Killing and being killed is part of most decent gold hunters' strats. Not even sure how a 'no kill' rule could be implemented into the game. While I generally only kill during golds if I want to make someone mad or for revenge, I am used to being fired at early after the siren sounds, even if im using something like m3 viking. Gotta learn some good tactics to get around it. SD immediately after the siren sounds if your on a small or medium map, then once you find the drop zone go somewhere close but far enough away to remain inconspicuous.

Now that a poll is here:

There has basically always been a no kill rule when the Gold ISN'T dropping, once it starts to fall is all fair game and players will start to kill. This has basically happened since Gold box will be dropped soon came into the game.  So on the first poll I picked the last option, though it is also the second. There is no rule you can't kill but most choose not to as they don't want to be shot back at.

For the second poll I chose the third option, I basically only shoot those who shoot me. Though I sometimes do what I said in my above post.

I have never caught one!

I Too caught my first one at your rank. Good luck!

As a Twins/Titan user, I absolutely love killing during the gold box drops. Even better is seeing the reactions in chat, especially when you get the gold box

Noob Killer!   xD

Shout "no kill" then proceed to destroy as many as you can. Best tactic.

Well done for telling everyone on Tanki who will see your post your tactic.

Now probably all players will single you out and kill you now first after reading your post :D

In a team battle a "no-kill" rule is counted as conspiracy with the enemy team and can get you banned. Of course nobody is getting banned for not shooting at enemies for 30 seconds, but still it's silly to argue that some "rule" should be enforced if that rule simultaneously contradicts existing rules.

In my opinion you should do whatever you want after the siren. If you want to eliminate competition - shoot, if you want to keep your health - don't kill and hide. It's completely up to you to decide what tactic you should choose.

Thanks to all who participated in the poll and/or left comments.

You seem to have confirmed my observations - lots of people don't care for or respect this supposed rule, but a significant minority do.

(Reminds me of dating - everyone seems to have their own unpublished set of rules they think everyone else should know and respect, and woe to anyone who doesn't guess correctly...)

My personal opinion on the no-kill rule? It's a lot like my opinion on drugging in the game. If it can't be enforced in the software, all it takes is one rogue to ruin it for everyone, so we might as well just allow killing as part of the gold box chase, and use of whatever drugs anyone can afford.

That way, it's a lot like real war, where all sides take unfair advantage of any edge they have, be it natural resources, economic power, propaganda, or whatever. Nasty, but realistic.

(As an example, IMNSHO the USSR collapsed because central economic control hamstrung its productivity, so that it couldn't compete with the economic might of the US (e.g. SDI, aka "star wars"), despite the high quality of Soviet military personnel and hardware.)

Your further comments welcome.

I always hear the siren and see the message "Free clusters of enemies to fire upon." written in gold on the top of my screen, followed by a survivor who gained a thousand crystals for being the lucky one out of my warpath.

Great thread you created and a great discussion. I myself always wait with killing till the moment I see the gold box fall down. This way no one else damages my tank (9 / 10 times) - because I don't damage their tank either. Why not wait till the very last moment with the fight about the gold box?! :D

But everyone is free to do whatever he/she wants!
