A story from an anti-drugger who drugged non-stop recently

Recommended Posts

It has been 2 years since I joined the Tanki community, and within those 2 years I have never activated a garage supply, not even once.

I despised druggers to the point where I would ask if any drugger is present in the match prior to joining it. If a teammate of mine drugged, I would stop my support for him as an Isida or sniper, leaving him to death as he is already on low health.

One day, I was playing an Esplanade CTF when a wild drugging Isida appeared. Since Tanki X is gonna be released anyway, and that I have accumulated more than 800 supplies each, why not drug all the way until our team stomps victorious? #YOLO, right?

So on that day, I got to experience how it felt to be a full hardcore drugger for the first time, turning the tide of the battle by a massive degree. It felt tremendous, spamming double power as a railgunner, everything vanishes by the press of a button.

However, one thing was missing. And that important missing ingredient to my gameplay was - "the feeling of losing". I kept bashing other non-drugging players as if they are helpless children, but true gameplay experience is put together by a sensible mix of victory and failure.

Soon it felt boring, being the winner with extensive usage of supplies is just… too mainstream. If you ask me would I blow my supplies on others in Tanki X, my answer would definitely be: "Nah, bro. You'll feel lonely afterwards."

If you are too lazy to read:

He says how true game play consists of losing and winning, but being a drugger against non-druggers makes you a winner most of the time, therefore it kind of takes away the experience of the game.

Oh, make sure you try to drug against superior druggers, or if you are in a losing team against other druggers, it is also fun : )

See drugging isn't all about winning games and taking away crystals from other players. It's all about having fun

Same feeling when I first played Polygon at wo4. I was getting wrecked until I decided to start drugging against drugging. I still drug mildly in Polygon during gold and for turn-arounds, besides the occasional DA or DP in CTF.

Now, actually there's indeed no point on drugging on your own. But if you do what is called 'drug wars', where both teams drug all the time, it can become really fun.

Or you can takeover, where only one of the 2 teams drugs.

I started burning through my drug bank recently and:

Lovin' every second of it. Don't get me wrong, drugs are the most game-ruining, un-fun feature Tanki currently has, but it is good to be on the other side of the gun for once.

Thanks for the summary, bro.

This will keep all the TL:DR posts away.

How can you not drug for gold? And drugging isidas or druggers supported by isidas are the worst to face. So hard to kill them even with drugs.

As an Isida, I can confirm this. If I have drugs and Isida juice, and any number of you are within range, you're dead. Doesn't matter if you're full drugged or not.

For a very long time I didn 't drug at all, just like you. It is something I 'm still very pleased with, because I 'm very sure that

made me a better Tanker than if I would have started drugging right from the start.

(looking at your profile you 're doing very well)

The main reasons ofc. are that non-drugging you are always more vulnerable and you need about twice

the time to kill your opponents.

This (has to) makes you less sloppy and also a more cautious player.

Still when ranking further drugs/supply use also rises and at a certain time I joined the "party".

At higher ranks you simply can 't avoid skilled players who also drug, besides going Pro or XP/BP.

I started using DD almost non-stop, but hardly used any other supply, besides some DA.

Very few mines, health-kits or nitros.

Till this day I still mostly fight like this with my alt in regular battles, only mines

(I only use mines in a 1 vs 1 situation, never drop them somewhere not even in a CTF)

have been added fully to the arsenal on both accounts:

especiallly great for fighting against close-rangers.

Personally this is a very satisfying solution, I do drug, but not hardcore and because I 'm using

light hulls I 'm still quite vulnerable, so battles stay challenging.

I do admire Tankers who keep on non-drugging completely, but imo it 's better to find a compromise

that works if you feel that you start to suffer.

I've read this three times, and I still can't see what you are saying besides "In order to have fun, you must lose sometimes." That's what the last two paragraphs seem to indicate ("that important missing ingredient to my gameplay was - 'the feeling of losing' ").

Because, as we all know, losing is sooooo much fun.

In which case, may I present you with a well-earned downvote.

Coming straight from an obvious 24/7 drugger (profile): your again blunt reaction is no surprise.

Loosing sometimes isn 't so bad if you know that you would have won, when you would have drugged like crazy also.

Drugging hardcore and winning is too easy when you can add some skill. Just click that health-kit again and again...

Rewarding? IMO no.

No harsh feelings, but allow me to explain some misunderstandings.

Your quote: "Because, as we all know, losing is sooooo much fun."

My quote: "...true gameplay experience is a sensible mix of victory and failure."

See the twist there?

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don't intend to spark unnecessary conflict here.

P/S: And don't get me wrong, this is not an anti-drugging article, just my personal experience and lessons evaluated.

I've tried non-stop drugging in a battle before. I dunno, it didn't quite have the thrill of not using drugs. I never really felt like i could lose/fail. I stopped after that battle because i just didn't feel the same motivation.

I think what he might've tried to say is that to have fun, you at least need to have a chance of losing.

If that's the case, then very well. I take back my downvote. But the way it is worded, I am led to think that he meant you must lose sometimes in order to have fun, which is complete bologna. Or is that balooney? Hmm....
