video recordings / privacy law's

Recommended Posts

ok it just hit me tonight ..( 1 AM )

.i came to the conclusion that when we do video tape and the other players have no clue and there talking about stuff .. then we go to post it ( just say ) U-Tube or other locations .. is this not a form of privacy invasion on those players ..sure i get it that the personal info is not there...

but they do  have personal info on some of the accounts for example the players using there names ..( which is a mistake in my books ) and we also post our photo's in photo topic sure we give consent to seeing it .

. but for the younger players who are not fully away that there photo's like face book can be seen my millions seeing tanki is a open web site for all to see...

walking the streets in some locations there are camera's watching us daily..

also with face book and other chat groups are now asking for real names, phone, numbers and so much more personal info .

.where will this stop..we need to learn to protect our self's more even in the realm of tanki..

sure they have good protection  and tell us not to give personal info

soon or later someone will get our info ..then what ??

please help give idea's on how to protect our self's even more today for these new players just joining...

The Internet has surely become a huge part of our lives in just a few decades. This has come at the cost of our privacy privacy. The amount of personal information about someone one can now get is alarming. This amount of privacy infiltration required a spy or a private detective in the 80's. I'm not really sure whether this is for the better or for worse.

In any case, with the rise in cyber crimes, one has to be aware in regards to the information one provides online. For younger population, adequate parental control is necessary. Here are some points which can be taught by parents to their children:

1. Do not click any pop up links regardless of how genuine they might seem.

2. Make sure to read the Privacy Policy (or let the parents read it) of a website before entering any personal information in it.

3. In sever chats related to the website(like the chats in tanki), talking to strangers about matters outside of game should be avoided as far as possible.

4. Adding someone as friends to Facebook and other social media platforms should be avoided unless you have been acquainted with them for a fairly long period of time. Platforms like Skype should be used for communication as one can easily maintain anonymity.

5. There will be many people who will use online anonymity to take advantage of innocent users by threatening/bullying/stalking them. Children (and even teenagers) should be taught to inform their parents about such things immediately and not make any decisions on their own. Cyber Criminal Investigation Cell and other such agencies exist which deal with cyber crimes on all levels. Just remember that a cyber crime is just as serious as an actual crime and should be reported as soon as possible.

6. Many other small tips should be noted to keep oneself safe in an online environment.

Of course, even after all the precaution, you can't really keep yourself totally anonymous on the Internet. At some point, you will need to enter personal information. Just keep in mind that such information should not be transferred to any party which might use it against you. Stay vigilant and have fun. ;)

This is not so alarming. For example if you meet in a battle a player with nickname Alan or Jane and they do not share their private matters, than I do not see that as a privacy issue. Other players only know their nicknames (names) and that is all.

The best solution to protect young players is located in the family and in school. Children and teenagers do not care much for the advice on the Forum.

The key problem is in this: children and teenagers today are "really hungry" for friends in the virtual world. I already said here How a great childhood we had that few decades ago we did not add any friends because we gained them with the time.

They are "really hungry" to share photos, phone numbers, Skype, to have more and more virtual friends, etc. And this problem is not only in Tanki, but almost everywhere on the Internet. Not because of the availability of technology, but a lot of children and teenagers feel lonely, isolated, and that no one understands them. Most of the time without a reason to feel like that.

That is why they are seeking solace on the Internet. And yes, the solution is in the family and at school with the help by psychologists.

Why psychologist? Well, if a parent decide after a talk with her/his child that is better that internet is restricted or turned off for some time, the child will start yelling at the parent, would not want to talk, would not want to study, throwing things, banging the doors in anger, etc. Not all of course, but 99% of them will.

your missing the point ..now when you set up accounts in face book or gmail and stuff they now ask for the real name not the fake names that we use to be able to get away with and also they now want phone numbers

@Data

I don't know where this "hunger for data" will lead... but I don't like what I can find out about friends if I go for it and try hard. There is already so much information spread over various forums and games and social networks... an so few people take care what they tell around and which pictures they post.

Combines with an increasing automated analysing capability of modern computer systems, thats a problem.

Post your tanki account at facebook, apply for a job, they check your facebook profiles, find your tanki profile, see you are obviously addicted, and conduct you play half the night and will not be able to work 140% in times of a stressy job phase.

I spare to give data whereever I can.. have multiple adresses and accounts.. and keep them sperated. Thats my way to deal with it.. but it gets harder every year (as the data interconnections become btter and more interweaved)

@Videos

From my point of view it is illegal, if someone records a game video where chat is visible. Simply because the things written in the chat are under copyright law (in most countries).

Usually the things written in a chat are of non impact (later, in real life) but I don't like the idea, that there are videos out there, where I with my tankiAvatar (that has my nickname on it in bright letters) am/is part of it.

I really miss a little privacy here.. and I would apriciate it very much, if the following things could be changed:

- Name disquise in Video Capture Mode

If switched on in the settings, then the nicknames of all participating players visible on the screen are:

1) replaced by the text "player" or "tank", so noone knows the nicknames of the players there.

2) or replaced by something like tank#01182736.

This would apply to nicknames over tanks, names in the statistics, names in the battle overview in the lobby, and nicknames in chat.

Then the captured video respects the privacy of all players in the battle.

So if someone wants to publish videos of players he should use this feature. If they make clan internal videos or if the opponent was asked if he is ok with making the video public, the feature can be switched off. This "I agree to beeing filmed" must be visible in the chat right in the start of the video.

- switching nickname temporary to some name defined by the system

Sometimes I just want to enjoy the game, without playing with friends. So some kind of invisibility would be nice.. again it would be cool if my nickname would be replaced by something else (like "tank#1230987").

No, I am not missing the point. You are asking how children and teenagers can be protected at internet.

As for the Facebook, yes, Facebook is asking for real name and surname. But some users use nicknames or even fake names and surnames.

As for Gmail and other free mail services, the user is not obliged to submit real name and surname.

But these are all matters of Facebook, Google and other free mail providers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like I said in my previous post, the solution is in IT education. In the family and at school. Here even the police helps children and teenager how to protect themseles on the Internet, with free pamphlets and advices. And I bet it the same in the rest of the World.

There are also thousands of articles in magazines and on the internet, regarding the privacy and protection of children and teenagers in the virtual world.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand your concern and will for prevention, but it is impossible for a parent to control absolutely everything what her / his child is doing. Desire for absolute control by parents, can only lead to the opposite effect in children and teenagers.

So, education.

Protection of privacy is regulated by the Rules and EULA of the game.

Tanki Online Europe Ltd as a signatory one of the parties of EULA, is obliged and is responsible by the laws of Malta.

wow i just went to report a player in open chat and i was told

Sorry, we do not accept reports regarding private conversations anymore.

this is from me.......................................

not safe any more for younger players who need to be protected from anyone and giving them bad idea's ..tanki can be held legally accountable ( i think ) if any bad things happen to these players...you really need to look into your legal ramification on what you are accountable for now a days...this is not just in Germany but all over the world ..people are suing company's left right and center on every little thing now..someone needs to change this back to make this a safe and protected gaming site for younger players

.this is not just in Germany

Why Germany?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When they implemented the private conversations in chat, I wanted them to be moderated. At least with the some possibility, such as Add to conversation,  so that chat administrator / moderator can react. But nothing came of it.

Anyway, this game does not have the ability to predict who is going to write and what at chat / battle chat.  Whether it is a child or an adult person.

And as for the protection of children and teenagers on the Internet - generally, I've already said what I think. That I do not repeat.

tanki feels that children under 14 should not play this game (  http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=305349&page=17             )   which i feel its totally wrong any age should have the rights to play also most parents do.. i agree sign the consent rights but there are many who have no clue what there child is getting into..and with open chat not being screened this provokes a problem area for them that they can be lured into the wrong ...or can cause damage to one self..children under 14 still don't understand what the real world is like and as a parent we can only protect our children for so much but when there out of arms reach then you just pray and hope they remember what u taught them..but it still can happen regardless...

the Germany thing was about legal rights ..other places in other country's the law's are different not all..i agree..

They want your name etc (information) so that they could track you, they don't want you to have freedom they want to spy on you :D Isn't that awesome you live in a kage in a zoo being watched :D so fabulous.  And then hackers brake their dater base and get the info isn't that great? They keep the info in a server connected with the internet making a information leak possible.

Information is asked everywhere. People just need to be careful themselves. No need to make accounts with our real names for the sake of safety, neither is there a need to share private information over the internet.

I have noticed that have been a lot of Extremely low rank players who hang around chat or in battle but do nothing and ask us private or personal questions, I have one player follow me into 4 battles and keep asking for personal information, I don't use face book due to, they sell your info.

And Im starting to feel not safe anymore on tanki.

next time this happens click on players name then scroll down to ignore and click on it then you will never see what he is saying any more if he is a friend then i would think twice about it.. good luck
