You prove that they do exist first.

There is no direct proof aliens exist but statistics and probability says we're not the only sentient life in the universe.

 

Anybody believing that we are alone do not have the slightest understanding of the sheer size of the universe and the number of planets it contains capable of supporting life.

 

The Kepler telescope is currently looking for planets in a tiny fraction of the sky and has already found about 5,000 objects that are in the habitable zone of their host stars (or Suns).  By extrapolation, we could conservatively estimate that there are in the Milky Way alone, there are hundreds of millions of planets having Earth-like orbits around their Suns. 

 

Given the fact the Milky Way is just one galaxy out of billions it seems pretty improbable for us to be the only ones.

If we are the only ones then it seems even more important that we all stop fighting and come together to put pressure on the devs to combat lag and mults! :ph34r:

Just because in movies Aliens are more advanced in tech then us, does not mean that if they really are out there they would cream us.

This opens up a whole can of worms for me. I've done some extensive research into this subject. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, only one with a curious mind. Putting volumes upon volumes into a peanut shell, these are the thoughts I have come up with:

 

Theology: God made Adam and Eve. Would He have been so bold as to put life forms on only one planet?

 

Evolution:Single celled Life forms (amebae, bacteria) wandered out of the water and evolved into other types of life. Why couldn't similar types of evolution have happened on other planets?

 

Alien Life Form theory: We are the Aliens. We are an experiment conducted by another Alien Species. Which makes me think of our existence being started in a test tube.

 

In answer to OP's question: I think it would be scarier to think we are the only beings in the Universe.

Imho extraterrestrials are NOT scary, as they are just other life from a different place in the universe ( This universe? )

It is more scary that we are alone, imagine if a nuclear war wiped out all life on earth.
