Forum: Appointment at UTC+local time (bbcode?)

Recommended Posts

I'd like to have the means,

  • to enter the UTC time of an appointment (like a battle) in a forum post
  • And every users who looks at the post sees:
    • UTC time of the event
    • AND his own local time of the event.
    • and a countdown
    • The people viewing it can switch between am/pm or 24h display

Our go-pro-club could make big use of it - and most likely each and every clan here would as well!

If we would have this in the forum it could look like this (we talk about the blue/white box):

ask_for_widget15s5l.png

Best case solution would be a BBCode, that sets upthe box (configure UTC time of event, configure colors, done).

Optional please allow us to use this widget in forum posts.

Please note, that every users gets the local time information according to the time on his PC/smartphone/whatever !! :)

The viewer should decide which way he wants the data to be displayed: either am/pm or 24h format

(actually the widget I looked at provides such a switch in the lower right corner).

ps: I've edited the proposal to make this clear as well - thanks for the hint :)

You really take every opportunity to advertise it, don't you? :D

..and recently I really take care, to have no post with useless content, just for the sake of an add ;)

But as we talk about usefull things - would you mind to comment the idea?

You are very experienced in the forum, and maybe you can add some aspects to it, that I've left out.

Would be apricated :)

This is a great idea, however you will just get some lame excuse about it being to complicated to add without allowing other widgets and allowing the embed code for widgets will just get abused.

I still have some hopes, that Tanki realises that the code for the Widget is preeeetttyyy simple (request local time from Browser, request UTC time from own servers, calc difference, apply difference to scceduled time, display all that).

The only really complicated thing is, if some daylight saving time begins/endings come in the period. But.. I would also be happy, if it works without DST, and just gives a hint about it ("If your local time is going to change before the appointment is due, please check this page here again for the new target date/time").

Heck, they could even make a contest out of it and pay it in crystals xD

Well, it's quite straightforward, so I don't have much to add. Would be a nice thing to have, but unfortunately I really doubt that there would be a high demand for such a feature and, as you may know, it's pretty much pointless to develop something that barely anyone will use.

^thanks for your comment :)

All the generalissimos that are in their 3rd clan already, know the calc's ba heart ;)

But all newcomers, that join their first clan now or soon, will find it pretty usefull to know, when the training _really_ takes place ;)

Especially in the process of handling a lot of applications for the club, I've talked to a lot of players that have never been in clans before, and so many of them had troubles with time zone calculations.

And usually those newcomers lose track again, at the moment when DST (daylight saving times) kicks in at different countries at different days :p

So I think it is usefull to all those beginners. And simply convenient for all the pro's

I used the widget I've linked in the examples since 2 weeks now, and I received good feeback.

Members can look at a list of battles and see all time and date information in their local time, which is simple, straigth ahead and perfect :)

I love this thing :)
