I mean, why would you ever want to activate something that reduces visibility?

because i liked the halloweens weather.

It was just awesome if you can take sb down behind.

Im back with new idea, water. It was probably suggested many times but i have a specific idea. I dont  want you to make a water map. Have you thought about adding rain? Rain should make map totaly different. When we hear the loud tempting gold sirens the clouds go dark, litteraturly black, rain starts to fall. After 5 seconds we see little puddles on the ground, after 15 seconds map has tiny layer of water on it. When you drive your hull, you slide a little, like hornet slides normaly. Addittionaly you know how future map has like a channel you can go through, on any map that has those channels, they fill with water just like any tunnel that goes below like normal ground level. If tanker gets in the water during the rain period he floats in it. Now the fun thing is, you remember i posted a topic about skills, maybe adding skill which gives tanker a small engine that lets him move in water. Now additional fun is that in maps that got tunnels below ground ( like Industrial zone ) and that are having drop zones underneath ( in tunnels ), when they fill with water the gold spawns in water and floats in it so the tankers that got little engines can slowly drive to it and kill each other in doing so. I think it will be so much fun catching golds while slidding through map or floating on water. Additionaly you know how the map Noise has ups and downs,  when you go up you need more power or help of a friend, when you go down you slide like crazy controling nothing and bouncing around untill you get the traction back. I would like you to take a look at my idea as, i think, its a lot of fun!

But why? A bunch of visual effects for no reason other than to make the game look a bit more pretty. I don't know about others, but to me Tanki was never about good graphics or visuals and any kind of weather effect is unnecessary. Not to mention that rain in particular requires a LOT of effort to execute properly, otherwise it's just obnoxious and annoying, as seen in many games where it was done badly with poor sound effects.

That is true but i think that graphics dont need to be like beautiful just to have simple animation when it rains. I understand that "little" tweak with gold animation requires so much work, new animations, new sound, new data, parameters but idk maybe just adding grey clouds coming over screen and ground that is not covered getting slipper, and some lightning bolts. I was honestly not thinking that devs need so much work about adding such a usseles/not important/just visual effect. So yeah...

Another problem is that rain serves no benefit to the gameplay and will eventually become annoying no matter how good the effect is. Just look at night mode: when it was added everyone was going crazy over it, but after a few days the only situation where it's being used is for rank-up parties and effective videos for contests, while I haven't seen a single normal night mode battle for over a year.

Same would happen with rain - it would be fun to check it out for 5 minutes, but after that it becomes a nuisance.

Winter mode could have higher drift for the hulls...

You drift on pavement but you should slowdown on soil because it is wet.

For night mode tanks should have headlights.

Are you mocking Magenta's post or are you being genuine?

Sorry, I just assumed that you were mocking Magenta. Sorry for jumping to a conclusion

No problem.

It is a good idea to make Winter mode feel different, because right now Winter is just a white version of any map.

There could be options for Summer, Winter and Moon; then apart two options for day and night too. So you can have Winter Night, Moon Night, or whatever combination you want.

This is very similar to a tank game I played years ago. I don't remember the name of it anymore, but that doesn't matter much since it's no longer around.

Here's the basics:

Team: Two 4 man teams

Game mode: One. TDM. When you died, your tank was vaporized. Game ended when the last tank on a team was destroyed or 20 minutes elapsed. If all the tanks on one team wasn't destroyed by the end of the 20 minute round, no winner was declared and everybody left standing went back to the garage. The player that destroyed the last tank on a team was rewarded with a bonus in silver. If the last player on a team left, it was said he surrendered and the other team was declared the winner. There were no life bars. The HP you had left was at the bottom of the screen. In the garage, you could choose between bright red paint or bright blue paint. You could choose which map you wanted to battle on and you were put on a team according to the color of your tank. That's the only way you could tell the difference between the enemy and your teammates.

Maps: Winter, Summer, Rain, Fog (each map had different terrain, buildings, etc). Much larger than any TO maps. I never found the edge of the map in Rain and Fog.

Tanks: One. Similar to Hunter. Upgradable. On Winter, Rain and Fog maps tanks had headlights and taillights.

Turrets: One. Similar to Smokey, but a bit more powerful with a slight recoil. Upgradable.

Game currency: Silver. Was awarded according to the XP you received. (I don't remember the ratio).

Winter Map: Not really heavy snow, but enough to affect visibility. Bridges were Icy. There was a long bridge between the two teams. The bridges were very icy and difficult to negotiate. The only way to get across them was to go straight. If you were at an angle, the tank would begin to lose traction and fishtail about half way across. When shooting from the bridges, your tank would turn because of the turret recoil. Then the tank was difficult to straighten up because of the ice.

There were two bridges. The one between the two teams (very long and icy) and a very steep one. The steep one had a good vantage point for shooting the enemy, but very treacherous. You could easily start sliding down the bridge in any direction (forward or backwards) and just ride it out until you got to the bottom.

In the center of the map was one very large building, like a factory, but the doors were closed. Two small buildings nearby, like maybe used for storage.

Summer Map: Sun was very bright and if you turned the tank in the direction of the sun, the top half of your screen was very bright. The glare was almost blinding. This could be used to your advantage. Open area in the middle. Edge of the map was surrounded with trees and bushes far enough apart to maneuver the tank, but not much cover, The last row of trees acted like a wall so you couldn't drive off the edge. No buildings or walls to hide behind.

Rain Map: Very heavy rain. Dark, very little visibility. Claps of thunder in the distance. Lightning didn't hit the ground, but would light up the terrain for a second. That was usually the only way you could see the other tanks at a distance. Sometimes the flash of lightning was bright enough to see the reflection of the paint. Other times, they showed as a shadow.

There were 4 buildings in the center. Configured like Island Map in Tanki, but larger and further apart. Trees and shrubs were thick in some spots and sparse in other parts. You couldn't drive your tank through the thick group of trees, but you could see across them.

Fog Map:  Fog was like pea soup. Visibility almost nil. You could see dark shadows as you approached, but you couldn't tell if it was a building or a tank until you were almost on top of it. There were several small buildings dotted around the map. You had to keep your eyes open for the headlights and taillights. Although a few buildings had lights on inside.

At some point on the map, there was a narrow stream or gully (don't know what was there) and several short bridges across it. I don't know if you could actually fall into the ravine. I didn't want to be vaporized, so I never tried it.

I don't know where the game originated. I was using a very basic computer and never experienced any lagging.

I like this idea, it has a lot of potential to make the game fun:

Themes:

Summer - What is Summer today where all hulls feel about the same as today with minor changes. This theme should be the one featured for Regular/Standard/Non-PRO/Matchmaking battles.

Fall / Rain - It starts to rain before a battle begins, so everything is wet, the metal ramps are slippery, the concrete a little bit less, and ground makes tanks slow at accelerating, each tank behaves in wet conditions different that the others and different than normal. After few minutes pits and craters start to fell with water. Water also affects the thermodynamics.

Winter / Snow - Tanks will be drifting, many tanks will lose traction, Dictator will not be able to go above other tanks, Wasp will be as strong as Viking because of its tracks, pits and craters will fill with soft snow and it will very hard to get out of them.

Moon - Same as Space today.

Apart from these themes there should be two options, Day or Night for you to select with your theme.

Wow, that sounds beautiful.

It would be amazing if it was implemented, but it might be too demanding on most players' internet connections.

I'm not a shaft user. All I know about it is what I've read in the Wiki and on this I&S topic. Shaft is too easy a target for Firebird and Freeze. I know from experience, by the time the Shaft user is aware he is being attacked is when he dies. I've killed many of them and look for them as an easy kill.

Having said that, if this were put up for Community vote, I certainly would give it a "thumbs up." Sounds like a good idea to me.

Edit: Sorry for this post. It's on the wrong topic. I tried to delete it, but it wouldn't delete. Tried everything I could think of, but it refuses to go away.

Okay, This is an idea that many players would hopefully like:

Adding weather to Tanki Online would be cool. What I mean is that you will have the option to create a battle with different weather modes like:"Rainy, Lightning, Hailstorm, etc.".Also, this feature can be implemented in the new matchmaking system as the system itself will choose ONE weather mode for every battle created.

I am sure that this would make the game more unique and special in its own way.

Thanks for viewing my topic.

Hey you found another secret XD.
