Is Tanki Online really worth playing/climbing through ranks?

No is my honest answer to the question.

It's not worth playing to simply climb through ranks. Yes you get stronger turrets,hulls and paints but so does everyone unless you want to hang around low ranks and bully them it doesn't give you an advantage. 

It should be a nice bonus for hours and hours of enjoyable game play.

It should not be a grind to rank up, if it's a chore then don't do it, there's nothing special waiting at generalissimo.

I guess it gives a feeling of completion, nothing more in my opinion.

Playing Generalissimos with good M2s isn't as bad as it sounds. I have gotten first place before with them in the battle with only my Firewall Kit.

Is your Firewall stock or "tweaked" a little bit?

When I first started, it was quite fun blasting tanks. Things were much simpler at private to maybe the diamond ranks. It was really easy. It had the arcade feel of things. I admit, drugs were addictive. Simply press 1-5 and watch the enemy go BOOM! Very soon, I was draining my stack of meagre drugs quickly, which meant I had to purchase more & more as time goes on. The problem was drug kits cost a bomb and then I had to choose between them and equipment. Drugs makes ranks fast, but it puts on a serious financial strain in the long run. You just had to keep buying. 

 

From Captain to Major, I realize drugs weren't the only problem, but also more mults/saboteurs/cheaters in battle also start to appear. It was quite troublesome, bringing a video cam to battle. I mean, should there be a way to fight these cheats with TO? Why must bringing a cam to game neccessary? Shouldn't the punishment be increased? This also meant no matter how much drugs I bring to the battle, I just cannot win due to them being rigged. Then why play in the first place?

 

Problem with buying? I get to pay more crystals than the Russians do. Just because I'm simply not Russian.

 

Then there's sportsmanship that RustyNail talked about. I rarely see that around, honestly.

 

There's also XP/BP. But I'm not good at light hulls format. I know I would suck there, terribly.

 

I forsee that even as I go higher, I can own all the M4s in the world, but if I don't join clans/make strong friends, I will continue losing battles. It also takes much time to grind to . 

 

If a game doesn't bring me joy, shouldn't I just quit?

Sorry, but I disagree with you. You should play Tanki.

As for the mults, saboteurs, cheaters, I have made a script that you can run in the console to terminate the cheaters "cheating method". Suppose, if a cheat is enabled to go really fast, it will disable it automatically. But remember, the only reason that I have not shared this is because people will use my script to cheat. I don't cheat myself, but I just don't like cheaters.

But the map variety is really low and it's more difficult to kill players because everyone uses Isidas, repair kits and paints with high protection.

For me, the brick wall has come at Field Marshal. VERY few battles and very little map variety. A handful of Polygon, Noise, Rio, and Sandbox. One or two Madness, Kungur, Monte Carlo, Stadium, and Serpuhov. Don't even think about joining this last batch without Rail or Shaft and protection from both. I still play but i have to change out most map specific missions and I have to jump to RU servers a lot. I've also discovered that on the east coast of the U.S., I can do more when I play in the morning.

 

I truly enjoy Alexandrovosk map, so I play that a lot on my alts.

 

AND to the original question, yes, I think the game is worth playing through to Gissmo. You get to play with M3s, really grind to M4 and ultimately find out how good you really are when there are just no more false advantages. This last is important. Expect every Gissmo to drug, so you drug too. Expect every Gissmo to have M4 equipment, so you build up to M4 too. The game then finally comes down to how good you are compared to the player you're against.

 

All of my alts are at M2 kit rank. I'm still toying with the idea of starting a new alt, probably focusing on Titan and Twins or Fire or Thunder for Polygon CP, but I just don't know if I've got it in me to start over again. My main austen_pierce has seen a lot of time on Tanki and some of the best days in terms of turret performance and crystal missions are behind us. I might create the alt for fun, but as with all my existing alts, I'm not so much interested in ranking them as I am in just having fun with different equipment combos.

 

Had to hit the Russian servers this morning so I could find a TDM battle. That's right - there were NO TDM battles on any EN server at Field Marshal rank. It was a 3100 Crystal mission, so I did it. Found a Sandbox TDM on RU4, and ground my way to those rewards.
