Performance on large maps

I'm wondering about game performance on large maps. Since Tanki 1.0 is not hardware accelerated, some maps are performing poorly on my e4400 (Core 2 Duo @ 2 GHz). Anything larger than Madness map is unplayable for me. Even Iraq map is too choppy.

Is my computer too slow? What computers do average users have? I'm wondering how do people improve performance? Wait for 2.0 and hardware acc?

First of all, i didn't work on my map 8 months for you to call it Iraq. man it's iran, Iran . iraq and iran are two very different countries. Iraq is arab, but Iranians are Persians.

Tanki v2.0 won't come hardware acceleration. Only future versions of flash player would support graphic card. As of today, there aren't still even talks about v3.0 that may come with GPU. For now tankionline remains CPU browser game.

Reducing the viewport size (- key) would mean a lot of performance boost, go for it. Also IE has problems with keyboard response that makes some people think the game is problematic.

Why sometimes the tank moves alone??

Just as mehdadoo said.

TankIOnline has nothing to do with your GPU no matter you have a Stupid X200 built-in card, or an HD 5780. THe results will remain the same. And I don't think that flash will use your Graphics card any time soon.

If you are having problems but we were not having them the first time you started, or when you play on another PC. Try the following.

1. Clean-up your whole PC, CCleaner is good for this job, Google it and download the full version. its a freeware.

2. Try switching to a lighter browser, Firefox is good if you do not install too many Extensions. Leave Internet Explorer for good. Accept it, it sucks.

3. Close any background Processes, Windows Updates, Anti-Virus scans and Disk De-fragmentation along with other things should be disabled while you play a heavy browser game.

4. If you have a notebook with 2.8 GHz, and a PC with 2.5GHz, IMHO I find that the PC works better than the notebook.

5. Remove Cookies from time to time, They mess up with your browser's mind.

6. Reduce the screen size by pressing the minus (-) key, It will increase your FPS.

7. Avoid Downloading while playing any Online game. It'll lag you behind.

8. If you have a choice between Ethernet or Wireless, I'd go with Ethernet to avoid Packetloss.

9. Open the following ports on your Router (OPTIONAL) 5190, 5222 and 5223. This helps in reducing disconnections

I'll try to increase this list and possibly make a Topic about it.

I know they are two different countries, but like everybody else I get them mixed up all the time. It's a very cool map, you did a fantastic job on that one! Well done.

I am hoping that Flash will support 3D acceleration this year. I guess you saw this video, the description sounds promissing:

I am using Google Chrome, and I usually play with smaller window (I like my FPS high), but I cannot get how people play very large maps, I literally get 3 FPS on them when looking across a large area.

Thanks koolwalky for the instructions, they are very useful, but I think it's time to overclock my CPU. Again... BTW, E4400 is processor, I didn't see anybody mention any graphic cards in this topic.

And what is it about nerds, a nerd would know that his laptop has an obsolete processor and would not bring it up. :x

"Au contraire mes amis" :)

Have a look at this.

And there is more:

http://www.bytearray.org/?p=2310

and tell me what do you think ? :)

This is the future of Flash/Flex/Air platform.

It's called Molehill and it's a new set of low-level, GPU-accelerated 3D APIs that will provide the power needed for delivering advanced 3D experiences.

It will be introduced with the release of Flash Player 11 I think in Q2 of 2011.

Technically, "Molehill" is a set of programmable shader-based 3D APIs, exposing features like z-buffering, stencil color buffer, fragment and vertex shaders, cube textures and more. "Molehill" will enable developers to leverage the GPU where possible, while providing the flexibility to fallback to a CPU software rasterizer if the hardware is incompatible

In other words, FINNALY real(almost) 3D is coming to Flash. Alternativa already implemented in a demo that was screened at Adobe MAX 2010 in LA, California. It looks AMAZING!

And let's not forget the other arcade developed by Alternativa called Ostrova Online. You can find a trailer in the link above.

Maybe, just maybe...Alternativa will do some updates...uh...maybe somewhere in summer of 2011? I really would like to see tanki rendered in GPU :)

Trough OS firewall if you have one (OS bundled) or a stand-alone firewall app or maybe even an anti-virus software with firewall freatures.

And second trough the router web-based setup interface if there is such a case.

one thing NERDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

all i know about my computer is that it says COMPAQ and WINDOWS on it

You're not serious, are you ? )) How do you expect us to help you when you give us nothing and more, you know nothing about your computer?

Try at a local computer service near you )) Tell they that you have a big sticker on your computer that says "Compaq" and

a nasty logo on the screen with a looot of colors and the "Windows" text beneath it and that you don't know what to do with them.

That should solve the problem.

Guys I still haven't found a way to take a screenshot on my MacBook because it doesn't have a [Prt Scr] button :x

If anyone knows how to then I'd appreciate it if someone tell me how because sometimes just complaining is not enough to get Pin4er163's attention.

Use this program, and also make an account on that website and sign-in through the settings of the program.

Thanks for the reply, I will hold my computer overclocked @ 3 GHz and hope this all happens as you said. :D

Cool link too!

I'm not a Mac user )) I hate Mac's ..all day long...day and night ...forever and forever..until the end of time ))

But I am pretty sure there's got to be a dozen of apps for OSx that do just that ... somebody forgot to google ?? )
