A Guide to Rift:

You know that one map that's on everywhere, that gold hunters and thrill seekers flock to alike? Yep, we're talking about rift! Yes. Rift. Not Polygon. Ha. Go and cry yourself a river.

Why Play Rift?

First off, a guide for a map you aren't going to play isn't going to be of much use.  Rift's style of combat is very different as you can only have up to twelve players at a time, while it is still a reasonably large map. Another map with twelve players is Garder. Garder is MUCH smaller than Rift. This causes a lack of close range weapons and heavier hulls. The ramps and ledges make battle parkour important as well. Play a little on Rift and you'll see what I mean.

Tactics

You have 5 possible roles you can play effectively at rift. You have a runner (captures flags), Sniper, Healer, Defender, and Prowler(Holds up sides). Let's go over each role.

First off, you have the runner. You have 2 main routes to the flag, though they contain some variations of themselves. You have the trench, which is the fastest route, or either side. If there are not a lot of players, or no unoccupied defenders at the opposing team's base, Use a nitro and rush down the trench. Otherwise, take the sides, and use the many slightly different routes to avoid enemies and appear in different places. Once you grab the flag, don't suddenly change direction! This moment you are still is a perfect moment for snipers and defenders to take an easy shot and take you out. Rather, continue in the same direction and keep your momentum. If snipers have relieved defenders from their duties, take the ledges on the sides of the trench to grab a repair and capture that precious flag. Take the sides otherwise, but watch out for prowlers and their mines!

Second is the Sniper. Using the Sniper Ledge and other more prominent points on the sides you can easily eliminate enemies in their base. This allows runners to take the flag and get away safely. Can also be combined with the Prowler role, which I'll get to in a moment.

The healer is a vital role in close matches or versus skilled opponents. Using an isida, either follow runners to support an attack or keep defending players going. Wear paints against snipers as they will target you in an attempt to break down your defense.

No Defenders = No Win. Defenders need to target enemy runners and clog up the trench, all while under fire from snipers. In other words, its no walk in the park to be a defender. Use the fences as cover and use your range to eliminate possible attempts at capturing the flag.

The Prowler. I never used twins or hammer here effectively, until one day someone joined a Rift battle and clogged up the side. Using mines and his high damage hammer he stopped many attacks and forced us down the other side or down the trench to be eliminated by defenders at his base. He did this by laying mines onto entrances and using hammer to eliminate us quickly. This role can be VERY effective. I would suggest however to combine this with a sniper role using smoky or thunder to both snipe and prowl.

Hull and Turret Choice

Runner- Ricochet, Smoky or Thunder on a light hull or hunter is probably your best bet here.

Prowler- Hammer or twins with any medium hull. Sit on the sides, and mine entrances. Kill or injure snipers or runners and force your enemies to go down the trench to be destroyed by your defenders. Preferably only one per team; Any more and you run out of players. Two at most.

Healer- Isida on a  heavy :P light hull. Either Assist Defenders or keep Runners alive with the flag. Follow runners close behind and somewhat to the side. If they drop the flag you can quickly pick it up and bring it to your base.

Sniper- Light or Medium hulls, but not dictator.

Defender- Vulcan, rail or thunder on a dictator or viking. Using fences as cover target first target runners, then healers and finally snipers.

Conclusion

Finally, Rift is a fun map. This Guide is only the tip of the iceberg for Rift and I encourage you to try it out!
