Great job tanki, you can now take away some ones nickname and they spent countless hours on. I am in active now, but before ive spent countless hours on this game. how is it fair if you take away someones account in nickname. How is it going to be fair when you reset everything.

For accounts that have been used to purchase crystals, the minimum period of inactivity is extended to 3 years from the date of the last purchase, regardless of the account’s rank.

So it pushes you to buy..

Read the original post again. Nobody is taking anyone's account. Your hard-earned achievements are going to stay there where you left them. The only thing that will change (assuming the account becomes inactive) is the nickname.

A question for you mate : Imagine that I am inactive in the game for almost 1 year, but I use the forum everyday, so will my nickname be removed ? I guess it shouldnt, because I use the forum ( Just a suggestion ).

I've asked our programmers. The official reply is as follows (I'll add it to the FAQ post too):

Forum activity is NOT (emphasis mine) considered game activity. Therefore, if a player is active in the forum, but is not active in the game, his/her account will be considered inactive and will be renamed accordingly.

Besides, it's really hard for someone to register duck100101 exactly as it is when there are many free nicknames now ;)

One question.

Suppose I create new account, and register or as my current name. Then email Tanki for changing my current name for free? Isn't that an exploit?

I don't think that's a very practical thing to do. Usually nickname changes are done by people who have invested a lot of time and energy in their account, which also means they're probably a high rank, and that would make the required inactivity time very long.

Let's take you as an example. You're a Major General. That means that you'd have to leave your account inactive for 240 days, without ever logging into it at all! In all that time, it would probably be a lot easier for you to bring in the amount of crystals required, than to abandon your account.

Plus, if you've ever bought crystals, the waiting time is 3 years from your last purchase.

The saving grace for any purchaser is the 3 year safety net.  Anyone with planned long term absence would be best advised to make at leaste one purchase before going on a Long Trip, University or Military Service.

How can you change your nickname?

Despite this, there may be times when an user wants to change his / her nickname to represent more recent things he / she likes, but how can one do this? It's simple, just follow this procedure: how to change your nickname?.

What to do if the nickname you wanted has already been taken?

If you tried to register a new account but found out that the nickname you wanted has already been taken, do not despair, you may still be able to get it!

If an account has been inactive for a certain period of time, its associated nickname will become free again and you may register it for your new account! An account is considered «inactive» if it hasn’t been used to enter the Game for a certain period of time (depending on the account's rank). For details on inactivity time, check the table below:

Rank Inactivity time Rank Inactivity time Rank Inactivity time 22px-IconsNormal_01.png Recruit 10 days 22px-IconsNormal_11.png Warrant Officer 1 110 days 22px-IconsNormal_21.png Lieutenant Colonel 210 days 22px-IconsNormal_02.png Private 20 days 22px-IconsNormal_12.png Warrant Officer 2 120 days 22px-IconsNormal_22.png Colonel 220 days 22px-IconsNormal_03.png Gefreiter 30 days 22px-IconsNormal_13.png Warrant Officer 3 130 days 22px-IconsNormal_23.png Brigadier 230 days 22px-IconsNormal_04.png Corporal 40 days 22px-IconsNormal_14.png Warrant Officer 4 140 days 22px-IconsNormal_24.png Major General 240 days 22px-IconsNormal_05.png Master Corporal 50 days 22px-IconsNormal_15.png Warrant Officer 5 150 days 22px-IconsNormal_25.png Lieutenant General 250 days 22px-IconsNormal_06.png Sergeant 60 days 22px-IconsNormal_16.png Third Lieutenant 160 days 22px-IconsNormal_26.png General 260 days 22px-IconsNormal_07.png Staff Sergeant 70 days 22px-IconsNormal_17.png Second Lieutenant 170 days 22px-IconsNormal_27.png Marshal 270 days 22px-IconsNormal_08.png Master Sergeant 80 days 22px-IconsNormal_18.png First Lieutenant 180 days 25px-IconsNormal_28.png Field Marshal 280 days 22px-IconsNormal_09.png First Sergeant 90 days 22px-IconsNormal_19.png Captain 190 days 26px-IconsNormal_29.png Commander 290 days 22px-IconsNormal_10.png Sergeant-major 100 days 22px-IconsNormal_20.png Major 200 days 25px-IconsNormal_30.png Generalissimo 300 days

NOTE: For accounts that have been used to purchase crystals, the minimum period of inactivity is extended to 3 years from the date of the last purchase, regardless of the account’s rank.
NOTE: Nicknames of accounts that have been blocked for inappropriate nickname will not become available — these are BLOCKED FOREVER.

An inactive account's nickname will only become publicly available if someone tries to register it. At that point, one of two things can happen:

  1. if the inactive account isn’t linked to a valid email address, the new user will be able to register / take the nickname immediately
  2. if the inactive account is linked to a valid email address, the original owner of the account will receive an email notification informing him / her that someone wants to claim his / her account's nickname. From that point, the original owner of the account will have ONE WEEK to reactivate his / her account by entering the Game. If he / she fails to do so within that time frame, the new user will be able to register the nickname.

What will happen to an account if its nickname has been taken?

Even if your account's nickname has been taken, your account WILL NOT be lost!
In fact, inactive accounts will simply be renamed to free up the nickname for another user and you will still be able to access your account as usual, even if it has lost its nickname — inactive accounts' nicknames get a prefix «r_» in front of them. So, if the nickname «TANKER» gets taken, the original account's nickname becomes «r_TANKER». If «r_TANKER» was also taken, then a number from 0 to 100 is added to it, so the name becomes, for example, «r_TANKER0».

If you have an email linked to your account, you will also receive an email from our Tech Support listing your new nickname and all details on the process. If you do not have an email linked to your account, you will have to contact our Tech Support, submit a request for account recovery and then wait for their instructions.

For your nickname to be taken, all of the following events must have taken place:

  • you did not enter the Game for a very long time;
  • someone tried to register your nickname;
  • you did not notice a letter telling you that someone else has tried to register your nickname;
  • someone tried to register your nickname a second time;

After all of the above has happened, your inactive account will be given a new nickname.

If, after losing your nickname and being given a new one, you decide to return to the game, you’ll be able to continue playing with this new nickname or eventually choose a different one by contacting our Tech Support.

NOTE: All what you owned will not be touched — achievementsgarage items, rankcrystals and everything associated with your account before the period of inactivity will still be the same.

ELIZABETH1122, I hid the bottom part of your reply underneath a spoiler to avoid having a "wall of text". Also, thanks for referencing the wiki pages — readers will find them helpful  :)

Regarding your first point about buying crystals, I really don't think there's a need for that. The only thing a player needs to do is set a reminder to log in ever few weeks, depending on his/her rank.

Don't buy crystals unless you want to buy them.

I do not recall saying anything about buying crystals recently.  What I was suggesting here was that, if people knew that they would be away very long term, then a purchase would allow them 3 years without any concern.  Of course it is preferable to continue playing but if someone need to relocate abroad for University ect. ect.

Its OK about slicing the post, the real thing is best.  :)
